From subtrops to now caeru, it isn't very hard right?

Thx friend !

So far so good, but we'll call it a success when I'll be printing one of those

Zapo will be my next project.

P.S : I just can't print the semperviva : Any tips ?

To print subtrops and caeru you have to have a high humidity environment. For this I put a thin layer of perlite in a shoebox, spray down the inside with water, then place the foil & cap in the box(folding the extra foil over the cap to prevent drips from hitting it or the spores) then putting the lid back on and waiting 24 hrs. I used to get maybe 1 print out of each cap but with this method I get 3 good prints and 1 light per cap.

With pans, this method gets about 2 prints then the cap turns to slime but with every other species it works well. For cubes I run the first print for only 8 hrs, then every other cycle is 24 because they sporulate so hard.

I think my Zapotecorum project may have problems-- but I could use your experienced take on it since it's my first.
I put the grain and sub together in late April.
It looked like this when it was freshly laid:

Exactly 1 month later it had come to this point:

Pulled it out and got some pictures today-- it hasn't done anything in since that pic in late May really. Large part of the substrate is still untouched.
Also, (sorry if it's hard to tell in pics) there seems to be a slight coloring difference to the growth on the small amount of visible sub that is colonized, and the grains on the bottom look a little brownish/discolored... different from the original grain colonization--contams?

Everything I've read seems to indicate that (barring really low temps that don't apply here, as it's been in the mid-upper 70's) this low level of colonization at 14 weeks is unusual-- even for Zaps. I am afraid it's actually contammed after all and stalled-- but I don't see anything obvious.

Any help here?

In my limited experience with zaps they are not super aggressive colonizers the way cubes or pans are. They also need a ridiculously long consolidation period compared to cubes or other commonly cultivated active species. I literally waited so long on my zaps I actually forgot about them for a couple months and only noticed once they pinned. Because of this it’s super important to have as axenic of grain as possible. I used a method that didn’t require me to break the colony and expose it to competitors. This was useful in keeping the colony healthy over the insane consolidation period it seemed to need.

This is just my experience, there may be others more experienced with the species.

Thank you PW-- I'm just going to keep it stable and see how it comes along. It behaved pretty fast on agar, but I guess it's just gonna do it's thing at it's own pace

Got pseudoaztecorum sitting in my martha now, really hoping that it will pin xD

Found that even if i cold soak my milo 24 hours its still not properly hydrated and i get stalls at the end.. which is why i have some very slowed down exotics in my incubator cabinet. Heating the grains up in the beginning and then letting cool and further soak fixes the problem.

Also don't know how i should feel about certain grains in my weraroa subsecotioides jar, looking colonized but some grains just look like there has been some fight with a bit of bacteria but it was won..

Not sure what my best bet is with that now, pasteurized wood or something? (with pine involved since it is related to Psilo cyan and subs)

Similar story with quart jar of subs.

Also I doubt that if i did it right, caerulescens varieties weilii and var. caerulescens can be crossed. But again: maybe i didnt do it right. more experiments are needed and crossing with cubes (and also natalensis x cube) should hopefully tell me if my methods are sound and that i indeed have monokaryons when i think i do, and cannot find clamps for the life of me.

Hmmm got nice choices, what will i start spawn of next, to keep the tries and grows going? :happyheart:

Everything not yet barcode sequenced in genbank gets priority tho, if i feel like i might be able to grow it... since Alan said he would like to get those sequences added.

Something else is I had contact with Jan Borovička who said it was terribly difficult analyzing sequences of some in the Psilo cyan group. My question was about weraroa subsecotioides and its relationship to secotioides. He said it was even hard to say that subs and Psilo cyan were different species and that it was very discouraging.

I'm quite in love with weraroa (secotioid) am in contact with a kiwi with samples, he apparently also found specimens which are either sterile or albino... so waiting on results of some tests that will tell us which.

Weraroa and subsecotioides apparently have similar (or perhaps the same) DNA microscopically.

Macroscopically, they ARE different...

There is no name in official scientific literature called "subsecotioides"

They are still un-described in scientific literature.

Most likely they are an open capped variety of weraroa.

"Psilocybe weraroa var. subsecotioides" suits.

I’ve been thinking about an idea I just wanted to throw it out there because maybe someone has tried it and I just haven’t seen it yet. My idea is a tote or maybe large cooler because it has insulation. Install a cooling fan on the side. Have water in the bottom and a dish rack to put trays above. Have the fan below the rack but above water. Put disc fogger in the water. Could even add perlite around disc fogger to try to wick more humidity but the disc fogger should take care of that. Add FAE holes in the top of the top that will expel the hot air when the cooling fan runs. Any and all feedback appreciated. I’m about to go ahead with this thing unless there’s something I’m missing here.

Honestly on the add up it seems it would be more cost effective to just buy a wine cooler but are you going to be able to get the same FAE and humidity from that

Got some Panaeolopsis spores going on agar right now going to be growing them alongside cinctulus to settle the debate sbout wether or not they are actually the same species.

Wow so many awesome grows over here I’ve really been slacking on my exotics I do have some more sub tropicalis coming soon the compressor in my refrigerated fruiting chamber gave out and I didn’t notice it for a few days suffice it to say my Semi  grow is shot😩, I also had sum alleni In there and that actually put up a couple pins I noticed but it must have happened during the same time. Because by the time I got to it it was dried out I’ll probably hold off on attempting again until the fall just so I don’t have to battle the heat. All I have 4 y’all right now is some Mexicana

That FC idea isn’t for pans It’s for exotics that like cold climates. I don’t think it would work for pans. That fan there is a cooling fan. Supposed to be able to bring temps down to like 26 F so if I install a controller I should easily be able to keep a tote or large cooler at 50-60. Could even grow wood lovers in there theoretically. I got the stuff, I will let everyone know for sure though.

Well I got the semiconductor refrigeration unit and wired it up and I knew it was the wrong volts plugged it in anyway and blew it up. Off to a great start. But it was a small cheap one anyway so I went ahead and got one that is prewired and that already has a power supply unit and is much better with dual fan action. Supposed to be able to get small spaces down to -5f. I should have no problem at all getting a box down to 45f. I’m tossing around the idea of either doing a plexiglass box with an outer shelf for the semiconductor or just building an insulated box with a clear lid. The plexiglass box would
Provide a lot more natural light while the insulation would
Be better on the fan allowing me to run it a lot less.
Also
Order up a control for the temperature so I can set it to 45-60 and won’t be killing the fan trying to rig it on a timer or something.

Anyone for that matter but Jake.
Think I seen you talk about Psilocybe Semperviva (Hoogs)

Just got a print today.
Wanted to grow them.
Any tips you could give me if you have experience? :takingnotes:

Plan was agar to oats to HWFP then case with 50 50 peat berm PH 7.5 and then GH at 25C and 95%RH
