In a pinch (you don’t have any agar plates, but you have a great clone candidate) you can use clean damp cardboard to clone cubes too.  Later when you have plates poured transfer a small piece of fresh mycelium to the plate. It will probably take a couple of transfers to clean it up.

It is pretty common for people to put stem butts of wood lovers on damp cardboard and once colonized put wood chips on top of the cardboard in a bed outside - to establish new patches.

So my papuana mini mono contamed but it was spawned so u have a bulk bag almost colonized and a quart that’s consolidating. I have about 5lb of hpoo and I believe somethings wrong with it. Doesn’t smel off but I’ve tried extra long pastuerization and doing it twice and everything and still I get contam everytime with it. I pasteurize in mycobags and have been spawning to the bags and still getting contam so it has to be something with the manure. It’s the only common denominator. All other substrates are fine.

Thank you !
I do the same thing for everything I grow : I eyeball 1/2 horse manure, 1/4 vermiculite & 1/4 coco coir and I add some gypsum
But I did some grow without manure but humus instead, and it went great.

Keep me posted, it's still my favorite fungi :wink:

Thank you !
Well I print them the "normal" way (aluminium folded to keep the humidity).
But as per Mycorry advice, I now grow them on monotub instead of SGFC.
The humidity is higher that way, allowing me to have all the caps being printable instead of one.

I haven't tried the Caerulescens yet, but the semperviva is very special to me :wink:

I haven't tried either of them Aendir but the caerulescens are my favorite of all that I've worked with . Probably the easiest species, maybe tied with  mexicana "Jalisco".
I cased Georgia and South Carolina caerulescens on the same day as subtropicalis and I'm pretty sure I'll be picking the second flush of my South Carolina caerulescens before the first flush of the subtropicalis is mature. Plus the caerulescens are much easier to print.

I have put two different cultures of caerulescens on grain and they have been exceptionally slow not sure if it’s my genetics or not but then I made a bulk bag and it just took off in 4 days it’s about 1/3 colonized. So I’m not sure if it’s the species or my genetics or if caerulescens is just bad at breaking down starch.

I love the look of those sempv. I just made an LC today of some. This is probably the exotic I’m most excited to work with. Just spawned papuana today though.

I put a lot of work into subtrops last year Celestial, but I'm enjoying the caerulescens much more this season. Especially since ive got side by side comparisons.
I haven't put these to grain so I'm not sure how they do on it. I don't recall the subtrops being slow on grain last year but they certainly looked weak/wispy in the first jars. After g to g they perked up and looked a lot healthier. Bulk bags were hit and miss for me. Had much more success with grain to rgs to casing. Much faster pinning this route also.
Genetics are the key. I'm working with a few caerulescens lines and trying to get more. Hopefully there are a few of us that get serious with this species and find some genetics that performs well in culture. The Captains South Carolina line is a good one.

I’m working with the Carolina right now. I wanted to see how a multi-culture went before putting time into an isolate. Guessing now I should have but some species do well with multi-culture and others not but when they do it’s a good way to hunt clones and phenos. I still have the germ plate so I’ll go back to it when I have some time.

Isolates = a human telling the mushroom which strain it thinks should fruit.
M.s/m.c = the mushroom telling a human which strains it knows will fruit.
I've never used isolates with exotics.

Yeah it's too bad. I worked with alot of pans back in the day and the sandose  were the best, super easy. Now apparently they're shit.

Giant caps and make great prints. Haven't tried there potency yet

Think in 4-5 days I will have my best flush if Pans ever (photos will come) photos of the pins in the pan thread.
