This papuana tray is still throwing out flushes, 4+ months after casing. Fifth flush is starting to pin. Here is flush #3 and 4:

From what I've seen, this species is definitely capable of delivering canopies!

I am so very lucky and honored that Mother Nature would allow the subs I planted in Spring to not only survive but thrive! I am truly in awe of the beauty and resilience of this fungus. These are Psilocybe Sp. Section Zapotecorum from Australia growing in the bottom of a 20 gallon trashcan. They are on store bought compost covered in store bought cacti soil with a thin layer of playground sand and originally RGS. They started pinning after a thorough soak and dip in the temps. They took three weeks to mature enough to drop spores. The stipes were very solid and fibrous, the caps were thinner and more delicate. They dried down to about 11% their original weight, pretty hearty mush. They separated from the sub easily in large clumps. I am shocked by the bounty, they were clustered so tightly. Going to make some great Christmas chocolates!
I did manage to take a little test drive with these. I don't trip much anymore but couldn't resist the opportunity. I ate one fresh 3.7g mushroom around 9 pm. I hadn't eaten much all day and had a light dinner around 6. I broke off chunks of the mush and ate them with almonds and water, worked pretty well. Within about 30 min, I could feel a gentle come up. About that time, one of my 2 legged animals decided they wanted to be a fuss. I got them back to bed and by 10, I could definitely feel it! I made a cup of Mexican hot chocolate, sipped about 1/2 of it and laid down on a mat in the living room. So far, no anxiety, no stomach issues, no body load, though my legs were a little wobbly. No major OEVs or internal dialog. As I lay on the mat, after the hot chocolate, with my eyes closed, the CEV were incredible! Gentle, flowing, neon streaks, golden glows, free flowing, not geometric. When I'd open my eyes, the visuals would carry over for a few seconds then I'd almost feel sober-ish. I'd close my eyes and be enveloped by the visuals again. The energy level was just right, no yawns, no drowsiness, despite being exhausted, I felt lightly energized.
One odd thing that stood out was audible hallucinations. As I was laying on the mat with my eyes closed, the only sound was the drone of the dehydrator. Suddenly a piercing synthetic sound bolted through me, I took a breath and I sat up to figure out WTF?! It really shocked and agitated me for a min. The feline in the room looked like the only noise was me so I laid back down into my CEV. The noise happened a few more times but not so intensely, each time I'd take a breath after. Then it came to me, I was "forgetting to breath". These were signals from my brain to my body telling it to breathe and somehow I could hear them..... I started paying more attention to my breathing and the sounds went away. Eventually got up, took a B-hit, finished the chocolate, chilled some more then made my way to bed around 12. I have an enjoyable, mild afterglow today.
Such a beautiful mushroom!

New Subtropicalis (not Zap) genetics grows from wild spores. By taste (no cucumber alkalinity) and structure (fibrous stalk), it seems to be Subtropicalis. Joker from wild swabs collections )

Caerulescen.
This is a wild ms that's been kicking around for almost 2 years now. Started with a wild print from GA from fruits found under loblolly pine. Finally got around to fruiting it out and I'm tickled pink. Coir verm sub, cased with coir, topped off with loose pine forest duff and some strawberry clover seeds. Printing, and tissue samples taken.

This was a rather fun find:
The 64oz tupperware of cased Stuntzii chips I prepared in May, fruited indoors in August, and left outside to the elements has fruited once again! A lot of action for a small container

Here is a photo update of the tentative new species of Psilocybe from New Zealand, Sect. Zapotecorum, apart from the rosecomb mutations I love the form of these fruit bodies, they are very slow growing similar to P. subtropicalis but I think spores are now starting to form.

Haven't posted in a while but finally back with some fun updates! Got the real Psilocybe hoogshagenii colonizing agar and substrate, sequenced and confirmed. I'll be posting updates into this journal but here is a preview: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/28537207

Some photos from the wild collection:

It's a fan of brf cakes & similar, and for this first round of testing, I used a blend of peat / coco / verm / oak&hickory pellets / hemp fibers / mulch to see if it would colonize it and so far it is!

Makarorae. These seem very easy, but also I spawned this basket almost 12 months ago so they do take patience, they seem productive. I am working on the details and will share shortly.

Psilocybe aucklandiae on MEA, two different isolates from multispore germinations.

P. angulospora, this is a clone from a wild collected specimen in 2019, the dish was stored at room temperature and has revived nicely, both of these were transferred from the same culture, the first is on half strength MEA, the second on full strength MEA .
I'm currently testing this one on a few different agar recipes as it is a challenging species to work with, very slow irregular growth, more images to come on the different recipes.
P. weraroa on standard MEA, the first one here is a stipe tissue clone from a wild collected specimen and the second is an isolate from a multispore germination from the same collection.
