Hello there... came back after doing a couple more A2G transfers. I'm a little bit nervous about some weird transparent mycelium (hopefully... it could be something else). I have two kinds of transparencies in two different plates that came from the same "parent" plate.

The plate I think it's healthy would be this one:

Why? I'm not sure, but it seems to be opaque, and really thready. The image is super compressed, but I hope it shows clearly.

And the plate I don't know what going on is this one:

This is more bright, like wet bright.

So WDYT... Are those transparent edges bening?
This is P. ostreatus mycelium, pretty fluffy, and somewhat aerial. Here's a pic of another transfer from the same parent:

Hey thanks for the reply. Now I'm getting a little bit extra worried lol.

This is the plate they came from, inoculated 3 days ago:

I didn't take samples from the leading edge in this case because it was so close to the edge of the plate (that previously had some condensation) that I thought it would be better not to. Sorry about the amateur stuff, these are my first experiments doing A2A.

Just saying that's the KO growth i'm used to!

Just used to it being super visible. Lions mane on the other hand you almost don't notice til it's pinning on agar.

New update:  Red boy, plate T1 3 days in, four separate samples.

This is looking like the best I've ever had so far (pathetic I know) but it looks like I might have something decent by T4 maybe?

I stuck my "minty" mycelium to my finger (I have over 100 dishes, dont worry) and it smelled like a fresh ass mushroom. I guess some people do just smell mint when it comes to mycelium.

Not saying trich doesnt. But my mycelium is all good n healthy. Oeace y'all

Ran into the same problem early on in my transfers where it smelled minty but it was a healthy culture.

Is this yellow spot just an exudate? This plate has already ~3 weeks, and it hasn't been placed in cold storage until last night.

I'm having a really hard time trying to interpret mycelium growth on agar. For example, is this healthy growth? If it is... then why the gaps between the center and the leading edge?

Cant say anything about the yellow. Cut it out or torch that shit if you have to.

As for the bottom picture, im not too scientific but it looks good to me. See how it's going back to somewhat rhizomorphic patterns after the spacing? Some mycelium just does that. Keep tranferring sectors to new dishes and it will get stronger. Im using MS spores and have seen so many different types of myc. I would be excited to have that dish, its looking good so far..

Thanks man. I'll do some transfers today. Still so much to learn, I'd love to do spores on agar.

Syringes suck. People keep telling me I have mold when its mycelium. I sacrificed a few dishes and smashed a few white lumps in between my fingers and it smelled like straight mushrooms. At least with spores I know what is what when I swipe it..

I have some free prints i got from reddit. Let me know if you want some.

When I do agar, I have my agar dish that I’m transferring FROM in my SAB, I take the lid off and keep it off while I do all my transfers. Do you guys do that? I’ve never had a problem doing so, just curious.

I lift one end of the lid up a little bit and take my transfers in between the lid and the petri and don't lift it off all the way anymore.

I like to store some of the donor dishes in the fridge and sometimes use them again thats why im extra careful

Yes I can post pics of myc I did the same to and there are no contams. Not saying I can guarantee anything.

I used to do that but felt my movements are slow/deliberate enough, my SAB is sanitized good, and there’s zero air flow in the closet I do my work in either. Plus I had trouble making good cuts without the dish moving around, I was thinking about putting something on the bottom of my SAB so the dish wouldn’t move.

This is a T1 plate with 4 segments of the exact same T0 plate, is it just me or does the top left seem very strong compared to the others?  I am going to move those to T2 plates but should I even consider the other 3 areas at all?

I really like a simple rack elevated above the bottom. Lets you have more room and not sitting in a pool of water
