Acremonium or whatever the fuck:

Lol "Inconceivable!"

Acremonium is a fungal genus formerly known as Cephalosporium. It is a widespread mold currently believed to contain about 100 species. Most species of this mold exist as saprophytes, being isolated from dead plant material and soil.
Now that makes wayyy more sense.
Thanks.

about how long does it take to see growth after dropping spores on agar?

How do you monitor it when your medium is not translucent? Do you wait a few days then open them in the SAB?

3-30 days for spores. What tek are you following that suggests agar in anything other than clear containers? You could certainly look in your SAB, though every time you did you are adding a vector for contamination. . .

I'm using a clear container, specifically the glad mini rounds but they have a blue top and I've got alot of condensation on the sides..

Hold them up to the light and look through. You’ll get used to condensation if using no pour agar 👍

PM and B+ T2 complete :dancer: (our agar journey)
Trashed the GT, they were doing nothing besides look questionable at 14days. (actually kept one, may be tomentose myc puffs growing from the spore syringe drop rolling around, or may be mold again, at this rate we will see in a month or so tho lol

Trashed this PM T1 and parent, was first myc looking stuff after putting spores to agar, a few days after inoc. very exciting and just looked tomentose so transferred. couple days after transfer both parent and T1 turned grey. looks like decent myc did grow out between two cottony molds though. had other PMs so no need risk transfer anywhere but to trashcan.
[To be continued] :jah:

4 day old dishes, made at the same time from the same donor dish (2%LME), stored atop each other in exact same conditions. One is 2% light malt extract, the other is water from boiling oats (very cloudy because I forgot to wash 'em). Both 2% agar agar and sterilized in the same PC cycle.

All 12 oat water dishes I made are similarly underdeveloped in comparison to the 28 LME dishes. I wonder what's up? Too much nutrition and the mycelium lazing around? Just needing time to adjust to the new food? Or something with the oats (organic, so shouldn't have fungicides and such).

Shroomery, does anyone have a picture of Semperviva mycel on agar? Preferably some tomentose growth.

Edit: Found this, not tomentose.

Can't wait to see how your pm turn out. When I grew it it was a weird strain. It put out a first flush which contained only one gigantic mushroom so tall it almost fell out of the tray. I should take a pic of the print, it's the size of a saucer.

My spore collection is getting old so I'm working my way letter by letter trying to germinate them. I'm in the f's and just got a Fiji print to germinate for the first time ever. That print is at least 7yrs old. I can't wait to get through my whole collection and have fresh prints of everything.

Was the original plate LME?

Wait till next transfer to the same media. The myc needs to learn how to produce different enzymes to digest a different media. Should pick up speed once it gets it.

Also hard to determine nutrient content of grain water. Growth, once moving, may be slow (tormentose) if nutes are high, rhizzo if low. . .

Yes, both plates are a third transfer from hitherto all-LME culturing form spores. It's interesting how the mycelium needs time to adjust. Makes me wonder whether the initial selection for "most vigorous growth" on transferring isn't too specific to LME/medium. Maybe some of the strains that were left behind for not thriving in LME would've been even happier with oats than those that got to the finish line will ever be...

I’ve thought exactly the same thing funnily enough. . . If it works though

Some folks add wood soak to their agar to get them used to it. . . Remember ultimately they are going to be eating wood not grain. . .
