Thats why I was a bit surprised when Pasty said it was bacterial.  I have 4 that look like this
Im gunna chuck 1 in some millet, see if i can get a clone and keep expanding the rest to get better looking growth.

I've found that myc grows into agar. Sometimes visible like what you are seeing, and sometimes below growth like your others.
Evidence to support this idea is when you transfer a thick chunk of agar and there is immediate growth from the underside. Clearly the myc is growing from inside, not around. . .

imagine a solid-ish lc. fairly weak agar gel, maybe in a half pint mason or pp5 screwtop jar. scoopable. inoculated on the surface, with a prime culture. behold as the mycelium penetrates the entirety of the goo. contaminants will show on the surface in short order. if no contaminants reveal themselves, a sterile tool can scoop the goo out and inoculate jars or bags all the same, and shaking pulverizes it like the soft agar it is. i think i'll give this a shot.

I've had similar thoughts, though the introduction of a sterile tool is an unnecessary vector in my opinion. I opt for ezLC instead.

I find a lid open and pour less prone to fuckup.
