That's true.  But not all people here illegally crossed illegally.  A lot of them just overstayed a visa, which isn't a crime.

And for those who did cross the border illegally, they didn't do anything that's even close to the same moral culpability as murder.

Yes, jumping the border is not comparable to murder, but going back to the point -- if a father commits a crime and goes to jail, the child may suffer. Thus, if a parent commits a crime, their children may suffer in result.
