TRUE CONFESSIONS - of an amateur mycologist. NEXT CONTEST in NOVEMBER * 4
    #23949183 - 12/22/16 03:35 PM (9 months, 23 days ago)

Hi Folks
This is meant to be a fun thread for all to post in - and read through when you're bored.

The idea is pretty simple. We amateur mycologists get really passionate about our hobby and our brains get focussed in weird ways and we do weird things that normal non mushroom obsessed people don't do and wouldn't understand.

Please use this thread to confess your peculiar Mushroom Cultivation RELATED thoughts and behaviors. Don't worry about posting something that other people have already posted - part of the fun will be seeing how many people do that same weird things.

MYCO SINS: ... In addition to your myco peculiarities you can also confess your MYCO SINS here... things like the time you blew off sterile technique and did agar work in dirty clothes on the kitchen table, the time you forgot that mono for months and found it looking all disgusting and sporulated (post photos please), that trade you never completed and still feel guilty about, telling your boyfriend or girlfriend you can't go out (because you have to harvest or rather do agar work), etc.

EPIC NOOB FAILS:  Confess your most embarrassing noob failures here.

Although all are welcome I will moderate -  if things get trolly or way off topic - the confessions area about mush cult related things OK?

(Scroll to Bottom FOR NEW CONTEST UPDATES)

UPDATE: To Celebrate Turning 100 (pages) there will be a contest in this thread.
Here are the guidelines:

From May 10 2017 to May 17 2017:

Post a True Confession (be honest) that fits in one of the following Dream Themes -

1) Myco Dreams - I woke up and had this dream about mushrooms / mushroom cultivation
Examples:    I dreamt that I was miniaturized and walking around in my monotub in a forest of
                      giant cube fruits
I dreamt my girlfriend / boyfriend was a mushroom and we were making sweet
mush love on a blanket of jiffy mix casing
I dreamt that just as I was loading up my third dehydrator, law enforcement
knocked on my lab door (yes nightmares count too)
OR

2) Myco Dream / Scheme - as in I plan to do this X, Y, or Z big / difficult thing with mush cultivation.
Examples:    I dream that I will someday hybridize shiitakes and cows and make "shiitstakees"
I dream I will some day have a successful monotub
I dream I will corner the market on shrooms in my state and drive a Porsche and be
called "Shroom King" by all my homies

At the end of the contest week I will pick a winner in both categories and send you a print for sharing  your awesome true confession. To qualify for an active print the selected winner must meet the residency requirements for the market place and have a decent trade rating.

UPDATE: Photo Only Contest June 1st - June 7th

This contest will be for confessing without words...
What I'm looking for are photo entries that say it all. NO CAPTIONS , No explanation, Just a Photo that confesses something myco related.

Some examples, might be:

A photo of that tub you should have harvested.... but you waited a day or two and is sporeloaded / sporesplosion all over

A bacterial jar or other contaminated jar that you should have thrown out a LONG time ago

A tub that you let get way too dry and there is just one or a few struggling fruits / pins trying to survive...

or maybe it is a positive moment?

You confess that after a long time you finally got that killer full canopy flush (maybe a before and after sequence your first mono and your best mono)

use your imagination, photos, before and after... hell maybe you even have an animation. Tell a secret story about some aspect of your myco world.

At the end of the week I'll pick a winner and send out a
Texas Orange Cap  spore print.

Update... I'm thinking up a contest theme for July ... in the mean time confess away randomly
:
JULY CONTEST - From JULY 1st to JULY 14:

Post your Myco Relationship Confessions.
At the start of your entry add the following heading:
"CONTEST ENTRY: Myco Relationship Confession"

Some examples:
CONTEST ENTRY: Myco Relationship Confession
I've always wanted to try having sex with my partner while tripping"

CONTEST ENTRY: Myco Relationship Confession
My partner has threatened to turn me in / trash all my myco stuff / leave me because of my myco habit...

CONTEST ENTRY: Myco Relationship Confession
My partner is jealous of the time I spend on the shroomery / myco work... etc.

CONTEST ENTRY: Myco Relationship Confession
I can't seem to find a parter / start a LTR because of my myco obsession... etc.

Winner will receive a spoor print. Maybe Amazonian or Tasmanian

UPDATE September Contest

"Don't Hide Your Pride" SEPTEMBER 1-10th - START YOUR ENTRY WITH "MY SECRET PRIDE"

What I'm looking for is something that you have been quietly proud of in your myco world. Something you feel really proud about but have been inhibited about bragging or even mentioning it.

Maybe it is a great accomplishment and it just isn't your style to brag.
Example - I got my first full canopy monotub! Whooot!
Example - I grew my first exotics (non cubensis).

Maybe it is a significant accomplishment for you but when you look at all the cool stuff on the shroomery it seems like no big thang.
Example - I got pins on my (10th) PF tek at last!
Example - I managed to do a grow without any contaminants for the first time!

Maybe you are proud of something you'v recently learned or cleared up, or a technique that you have become pretty good at or mastered even...
Example - I finally got it that there are varieties of cubes... not "strains" or "species"
Example - I can do agar transfers now without dropping wedges all over the f@#kin SAB.

Give us a bit of context so we understand what you are proud of and maybe why you have kept it more or less a secret.

I'll get this party started...

Whenever I buy groceries I check to see if the containers are PP5 and think about if they would make good cultivation containers.

Every time I see one of these I wanna...

Steal it
Mount a PSI regulator on it
Start a big ass bonfire under it
Make the worlds largest LC and let it colonize for a month
Filter the 10,000 gallons of LC through a cheese cloth
Curious to see the yield of dry mycelium aha

I can say that one long term effect that cultivation has had on me personally is that in learning how to identify good growth, healthy mushrooms, and ideal conditions, I slowly turned that kind of observational focus on my self and realized a lot of things that were making me unhealthy (food, environment, mental thought patterns  etc).  I'd say that I'm a healthier person because of growing and that I'm much more aware of how conditions and environments have effects on large and small levels, physically and mentally.

I think in a way that idea is very cliche, but I don't necessarily think it's one that is really embraced to the extent it could be in people's lives.  But...what do I kno...I smoke weed all day and play with mycelium, so my worldview might not be the most common

When I walk outside and smell mushrooms after a storm, I hunt them down like a dog.

I like blinding leafs take, and I can totally relate. Mush cult has changed a lot of my habits and food choices because I realize more intensely the connection. Also, I noticed that everything looks like mycelium to me... Clouds, salt stains on the road, white haired old ladies

Are you that creeepy person pacing the storage bin area of the store pulling out containers and looking at them ... for like 45 minutes, then walking away without the perfect sterlite solution?
