Lmao awesome, it is an endoscope after all rite! I considered it but was worried about mucking up the lens and the kind of sharp edge on the front of it - forgive the TMI but did you put a condom or like, thermometer sheath on it? Or how did you keep the lens clean otherwise

Waits for a Hambone Spawn Plug tek
cranberry agar slices
Pe-coir pie
... actually it occurs to me that it would be entirely possible to create a BRF & verm pie crust, so long as one could sterilize and seal it in the pan for colonization

You know how one might gasp and clutch their chest at the sight of an unexpected basket of adorable puppies or kittens? That's what I did when i rounded the corner and saw these tubs in a curiously empty section of a big walmart. Of course I didn't buy them because I'm stingy, but oh boy, the noobdreams

And yeah I'm still training on PF and haven't even touched a different type of sub yet, no way I'm daring something like that. But the sight of em was glorious, and helped make me even more disappointed when I got to the mostly empty canning aisle to find no 1/2pt wm's how dare they make me wash previously used jars

I've been telling my girlfriend that I have a roommate named Matt who lives in the 2nd room, and since he works the grave yard shift, he sleeps during the day, and is already at work by the time she comes over. It also is a good cover story on why I have extra money (splitting rent with Matt) She has accepted it as a fact, and has never looked in the room. The truth is, I have no roommate- just an awesome laboratory with fun experiments going on. (It remains locked at all times)

make sure you read the manual so you don't get any surprises
Oh yes, I'm too hopped up on painkillers tonight to dare anyway, just watch the 10min DVD like 3 times and go over the manual too
All seriousness aside, I am amused at the thought of hugging it while at-pressure

It might relieve you to know, in a sort of "misery loves company" way, that I once got chewed out for not realizing that sterility in mycological work is significantly more strict than hospital work, indeed even surgical work. Hell, operating rooms are open-air

I also film SAB work sometimes when I'm not feeling too insecure (or too lazy, hah), and usually end up discarding all the footage for either being boring/irrelevant (I feel like it's shit everyone's seen before) or being too nit-picky and worried that it'll just get slammed cuz if I can see errors in it then holy hell are the people with real expertise gonna see 'em, rite. That said, I did manage to make this gif which I trot out whenever it comes up, tho it was done with a 5+ year old android phone camera and not the digital microscope:

I think I can admit I just really like being told "hey great pic, good job!" and that's why I film it and bother compiling & editing it. As it is, I've already gotten more praise than I deserve cuz I've only yet officially done one grow and that was done by thxgiving lol. Hey here's a cheezy amateur confession - I hope to someday deserve the praise I've gotten so far and can come back atcha folks with even way way better pix! (disclaimer: I know less about photography than I now know about mycology so any appearances of technical artistic ability are entirely coincidental)
Also, I've definitely been glancing sheepishly at the idea of no gloves, that shit is way expensive; I mean I'm sure I could find them cheaper in bulk but i've been just getting them at the dollar store and its like 10/$1 for latex and 8/$1 for nitrile and man over a dime a piece is way more expensive than scalpel blades each

I kno rite it's like 15-30mins of prep for like 17 seconds of work (assuming it's just a single plate transfer or LI mixing) and I swear sometimes I look at my SAB and see how it would just take like 15 seconds to do that one plate that's gonna grow too far if I don't but my lazy stoner ass turns back around and blows off the prep and just lets it grow cuz I can apparently only do things when I want to, not when they need to be done???? Lol this hobby is at least helping me improve that aspect of myself, a little bit, I think

tip learned in phlebotomy/injections class: wrap one hand around the body of the syringe, brace your other hand's fingers around with your forefinger and thumb pinching the base of the needle cap. Then twist the cap in the opposite direction of the needle's screw thingy (if it's that type of needle connection, I forget the names, luer lock something). Anyway the point is, twist the cap off, so that removal of the cap requires zero force and your hand doesn't rubberband snap-back at the needle, only your forefinger and thumb even move at all
if this makes zero sense I could maybe do a gif demonstrating it but lol I aint got my nails did
[edit] Oh, and my amateur confession: my very first inoculation was spore syringe to PF jars and done under a "tent" made of garbage bags draped over and taped to a tall dining chair. I covered myself in plastic as well, only the eyes sticking out, and stuck my head under the hood of this monstrosity and inoculated three jars. I knew I needed a still air environment but somehow I hadn't yet come across any suggestions to just use a tote. It worked but... I was too ashamed to mention it even in my earliest journal, heh

ComebackKid said: So would that mean 2 is also PC able? High density polyethylene?
A cursory search shows wiki says "For common commercial grades of medium- and high-density polyethylene the melting point is typically in the range 120 to 180 °C (248 to 356 °F). The melting point for average, commercial, low-density polyethylene is typically 105 to 115 °C (221 to 239 °F). These temperatures vary strongly with the type of polyethylene." So I guess the answer is 'maybe, depending on the type' and that in general most polyethylene is a 'prolly not'
is my guess anyway
