The sterile tech, the grain and agar prep, trying new containers, building things, dialing them in, pcing and pasteutizing... it's all so much fun and rewarding that if I do, and I rarely do, get all the way to harvest, it's just a neat little plus
Feel free to send me all of your fully colonized containers
Ok, time to get personal. Hope this doesn't bite me in the ass. I just initiated my first trade, it is still underway. I google map searched the trade partners address. If you are reading this, I promise I'm not usually that creepy.

The following is a true confession of an amateur mycologist.
Back when I was a wee 18 year old lad, I decided I wanted to attempt my first grow. Getting the necessary supplies was not a problem, so the biggest obstacle was that I was still living with my parents (stupid idea). My genius plan was to do all the PF tek prep work, pressure cooking and inoculating while they were out of town and then hide the jars away for colonization.
All was going well until, predictably, they came home early while the PC was rattling away on the stove. They were pretty damn curious as to why I was doing what I was doing and my on the spot explanation was that I wanted to grow some delicious shiitake... which worked!
Cut to about 5 weeks later when I was way too nervous to try and put them in any sort of fruiting chamber where they might see what grew. They wouldn't necessarily know what they really were but they would definitely know they weren't shiitake... so I told them that they had grown mold and had to be tossed.
The story does have a happy ending because I read a post here about being able to fruit invitro. It wasn't ideal, but I was able to get them enough light to get one half-decent flush of incredibly ugly, smashed fruits without building any sort of chamber. The harvest was just enough give myself, my GF at the time and my best friend an amazing first psychedelic experience.
Disclaimer: Despite the happy ending, it is my opinion that it's a very bad idea to attempt anything that has to do with growing actives if you live with disapproving parents, roommates or S/O's.

I talk to my spores, mycelium and fruits throughout the whole process and tell them I love them.. I'm hoping this kind of positive reenforcement leads to better and more potent and happy flushes.. I'll let you know how it works out in a week or so when I eat em..

I'd say that I'm a healthier person because of growing and that I'm much more aware of how conditions and environments have effects on large and small levels, physically and mentally.
I think in a way that idea is very cliche, but I don't necessarily think it's one that is really embraced to the extent it could be in people's lives. But...what do I kno...I smoke weed all day and play with mycelium, so my worldview might not be the most common
Hell yes!! Took the words right out of my mouth, except i couldn't have worded it so well. Lol I deffintally find myself making not only my grow room/area sterile and clean but my living space as well.

Yeah I don't get here any other way. I have a Myco folder in the bookmark toolbar and this is the first link in it out of about 50. Only a few are there for me to actually click on. The others are there for me to drag and drop into posts because noobs don't read the rules or want to know how much things cost and stuff like that.
But yeah I think that's how you're supposed to use the forum. Can you imagine manually digging through threads for updates in their respective forums? (I bet at least a few people here do ) I sometimes don't actually look back int the forum for days at a time, just ride the waves of currently existing discussions in my thread list.

You're making your grow area sterile? Care to share how you're doing that? As far as I know that would either be really difficult or a danger to one's health.
