Active Nihilism and my take on Life
    #19886672 -

Hello Shroomery,
My name is Roger, and Im an active Nihilist.I believe life is pointless, there is no God/higher power or afterlife and we all die(this bits obviously a fact not a belief).
I believe nothing has any objective value or meaning only subjective.Faced by this so called "knowledge", why should i do anything?
My answer to that is why not.
Thoughts?

My counter question to you is, what is the distinction between objective and subjective?
Most would say, objective information is observable information. Subjective information is not.

Here's an example of where this gets tricky IMO

So we get the idea that our perceptual observations are not ideal.
They can be misled, confused, unreliable.

So we bring in more reliable means.
We bring in a tape measurer and measure both of those people.
We observe what the tape measurer has to say about it.
Now is this measurement then what is objective?

How were the measures devised?
Was it observed objectively or was it created subjectively?
Whatever measurement we use, was that measurement objectively there?
If not, then why would the measurement be considered objective?

Repeatability right?
Suddenly this is getting a little muddy.
We keep moving the marker.
But we'll ignore that and keep going.

Repeatability, that's now a hallmark of objectivity.
And a trademark of scientific inquiry.
So how do we accomplish repeatability?
We isolate. We pin down causal factors.
A causes B. Therefore when A is, B is.

But this takes me back to the video of changing heights.
I could say that when person A is standing to the right of the announcer
they will appear shorter than if they were standing to the left of the announcer
But this is an entirely subjective phenomena right? An illusion tied to our subjective perceptions.
It's wholly repeatable. Just put person A in both places.
We've isolated a factor -- very specific locations.
Take away those specific locations and the illusion falls apart.

Science works that way too.
If you take away a factor needed for repeatability, the findings fall apart.

So why do we assume that we are observing something objective with science?

if you would do me a huge favor and explain objective and subjective for me
so that I can understand why something repeatable and requiring certain factors to appear
is considered subjective in one hand, and objective in the other
I would love to hear it

Objective meaning or value to me would be and underlying value as instated by god, the creator, etc beyond any human comprehension.Of course,I do believe in reality.Just that it has no objective value.

Yes and no.Things exist, actions happen, but any value or meaning from them is subjective.

first reaction. I want to find out 'the history of nihilism'

wow, there's so many types, albeit all meaning you feel like shit? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism

So may I ask you, what age do you remember you were when you first started feeling like this?

I think that is Nihilism up until the why not, where you break out through it into some delightful existentialism. Our seeming insignifigance is threatening but isn't exclusive to a nihilistic attitude, I agree I think it should then fuel the opposite question and leaves a void to be filled by our ambitions.
Things we've invested our meaning into because we love them, not for appearances, work or politics. The very action of loving a creation in that way can even boost ego and help create a healthy and secure sense of self within the universe, leading to more creativity and continuing this positive cycle you've established.
And I don't only mean painting or music or the usual things the word creativity brings to mind, it can be anything one can be passionate about.
Engineering, programming, medical sciences, shoes, cosmology, trailblazing/making, deep sea exploration, crochet, whatever.

So yeah, those were my thoughts on it. It seems you've come past nihilism into your own more pratical paradigm.

'Objective meaning' is an odd word since the word meaning is a conveyance of information.

It makes sense to me that reality is objective in form, but there is only meaning when we create correlations in our mind.

Why should you do anything?

Because you want to?

Because you have desires.

Because you want to avoid suffering.

Yes. So?
Acceptance of what we are is the only way to enjoy the ride imo.
Knowing why I do things doesn't detract from doing them.

Why not objective and subjective

I think nihilism comes from a mindset that cannot feel because it objectifies an other having no feeling and so becomes an object himself having no feeling, yet he does because he feels there is no meaning, but doesn't see the trap his thoughts have made for himself

nihilist is exactly what you are inventing being .. it is a lie of liars

there is nothing but truth .. so freedom out of being real about something that is also true

when else being true is real about the same thing .. this makes reality true too .. objective existence fact .. without any conscious mean nor anyone perspective to .. that is why truth is first a concept in mind and not something to witness nor to see

and this is what you also mean, business from some speculations about another thought or about what others that you know being more right then you, could be deformed in what they look like..

if for example, I think all and nothing too.. it is not out of not caring .. it is ridiculous to say that .. if you don't care about anything then you don't think at all so you will be more an animal that moves according to life and else powers, and would never keep anything in mind .. on the contrary ..

first empty ramblings cannot be .. while the more a mind is true, the more it must be out of all else and also out of all truth existence rights .. in order for the mind to be free from all as a prior condition to being an individual mind

while what you are objectively by realizing anything else, and subjectively, by realizing your true self freedom,  is all you, so what is totally through being nothing but you, and not limited  of else reality .. so never in words even nor in feelings or emotions .. so all in free conscious moves.. which is being only you .. and that is how each self is unique as it is the conscious being freedom .. so the fact of being constancy .. so in the truth of being.. and why any conscious being must be free respectfully .. but also how your ramblings are never about you the being .. so how you cant have freedom right nor act as if you could be also free and right

running too fast by pointing others as being nihilists to cut short their complex ways .. for your goals in dreaming to open any business by selling what right being could be .. prove how only evil is behind the claim, that communication can be true .. it is impossible !

that is why, here and now, truth look like being told... only because of worse being the only thing .. so truth is meant being freedom from worse .. so nothing actually since actuality is worse

communication is never true .. it is always relative .. relative to more relative about more relative ...which is nothing but wrong .. when freedom are alike the result is living being free .. which also prove that communication is impossible ..

truth is exclusively the freedom out of absolutes realizations.. the plus out of all .. so true because truly superior fact .. communication there is simply out of freedom rights to what is hundred percent superior .. to use his rights, the plus first for its own pleasure..
