messianic plotline

ive seen a few movies lately with a messianic plotline, 12 monkeys, donny darko, devils advocate & looper (to an extent).

this plotline comes straight from jesus christ.

they are all about a dude, who has a divine purpose of some sort (save the world in one way or another). there is always a tension between whether he is following a rightous mission or merely insane.

always despite what everyone else thinks or says, he is faced with a Choice, whether to shy away from his mission and give in to worldly temptation OR see his mission through to the end which involves sacrificing himself for the benefit of the world.

always *sorry spoilers lol* he sacrifices himself

which implies some sort of self transcendence, a kind of letting go and leap of faith into the unknown.

it is funny how many of the regular themes of the messianic plotline are touched on in these forums (this & S&M). free will/Choice, annihilation of self vs attachment, self conviction vs insanity, purpose vs purposelessness, faith etc... (im sure you can think of more)

Messianic stories predate Jesus. He's just the most famous one because he duped the most people.

i'd like to see the same plotline but instead of sacrificing himself jesus fucks himself which leads to some mad proliferation of jesuses in the world or something. :yesnod:
