The use of deodorant/cologne/.perfume
    #17309890 -

Why?

Who decides what smells pleasant? Why is it that some consider a non-human smell preferrable to a human smell?

I've heard in a commercial that scent is the strongest sense tied to memory. If this is the case, would changing one's smell artificially lead to lost memory when the artificial smell changes, or is no longer used at all?

If the reverse is also true for some/most/all women then straight single men might benefit from not using deodorant/cologne.

Being in a room full of people with bad BO is nasty IMO,I would much rather not have to smell the person next to me honestly.Human scent may have been worth something back when we were hunters and gatherers, but now not so much.Nasty dirty smelling people is a turn off.

Not using deodorant or perfumes is not the same as being nasty and dirty. A person can be very hygenic and not smell strongly/much at all without them.

I don't  usually wear perfume but when I do I wear the one that I like how it smells. I also like to wear men's cologne sometimes. :snowman:

My ex used to demand that I not shower sometimes because she liked my BO.

I absolutely hate cologne and perfume for the most part... It all for the most part just smells chemically to me, I often can taste it on my tongue... :puke:
My cologne of choice is campfire smoke... Fucking love that smell.

I hate the smell of BO, but subtle feminine scent, pheromones, is usually quite pleasant.

In low doses, I've got no problem with BO on anyone.

I once, however, had a tour guide on a weeklong canoe trip through the Adirondaks hold a firm belief that the gov't was trying to suppress human nature and sexuality by making people believe it is normal to use deodorant, soap, etc. So he never wore it. And guess what - the guy fucking wreaked. His girlfriend, who we met, was hairier than he was and she too didn't use deodorant either.
Believe his name was "Dangerous Dan" or some shit, turns out he just smoked mad weed and was a burnt out outdoorsman/hippie

tl;dr - do society a favor and wear deodorant.

I'm sure someone ha said this already, but it's merely a societal requirement that those before us have constructed. I think it's tied to the victorian era when bullshit like appearance and smelling like steroidal flowers actually became important  I worked in the wilderness all summer and recommended that my crews not take deodorant, shampoo, etc to cut the added weight. It's amazing how little that shit matters when everyone around you quits using it. You get over the smell within a few days.

Seriously, when I'm out in the bush, I don't smell myself or anyone else. Probably wouldn't want to go down on anyone though...

I think you are correct about it being the Victorian era, as it is well documented that Europeans had very poor hygiene. I've read a few accounts of Native American's commenting on how bad white people stank. Apparently, in most native cultures, it was common practice to bathe, as I can see through the various plants I have learned of in my ethno-botanical pursuits specifically used for cleaning or making hair healthier.

Love the smell of female BO. Perfume smells like shit. I actively avoid people who smell noticeably of any perfumed substance.

And RG when you live in the urban sprawl you have to blend my man! Particularly europe, everything is run down and old here. That's why smart euros buy our clothes from charity shops, don't replace them for years, a piece of clothing needs a few holes and shouldn't fit properly. Also bathe occasionally but not too often as that's just lunacy. You'll fit right in with the overloaded citys, dirty streets, stained walls, blocked drains and gutter pipes and irate service.

You gotta wear the camo of your native environment otherwise you'll never be able to relax.

My dad was always very anti-deodorant, as he said it messed with the body's natural balance.  Same reason he didn't use mouthwash.  I guess I followed in his footsteps.  Although I do use deodorant it's usually only once every couple of days.  Also, though I usually shower everyday I only use soap on my skin maybe once a week.  I do believe that a lot of modern hygiene products are habit forming in the sense that when you use them excessively the body starts to need them.  Like when you use mouthwash and upset your mouth's natural ecosystem instead of just brushing and scraping your tongue, it actually causes your breath to smell worse after a while, and so you need more mouthwash, on and on.

Looking for that perfect gift for a man who hates to shave? He may reconsider his morning routine with a new product from "Bacontrepreneurs" Justin and Dave of J&D Foods in Seattle (makers of Baconnaise, Bacon Lip Balm and Mmmvelopes). Their latest concoction, Bacon Shaving Cream, has no meat in it but it's the "highest-quality meat-scented shaving cream on the market today."

The only time I like to smell perfume on my woman is when we're engaged in Sexual activity.  Like naked dancing, slow and sensual, before getting horizontal.  Then, I like her to use considerably more than if we were going to be in a public venue.

Of course, I buy the perfume (not cologne) and pick it out, usually giving her a choice of three or four to surprise me with.  No. 5, Opium, Addict, stuff like that.

That's because she always showers after I do.  I actually prefer her natural scent, but the shower nixes that, so bring on the Parfum!
