This man pretty much lays it out in 4min. If you aren't into this style of music, I would at least read the lyrics.

So youre going to follow a religion that worships a dead guy on a cross.  Good luck bro.

its a lot more than that.. do you think people in bible study read more about this event physically or philosophically?

Philosophy and Christianity are not mutually exclusive.  The bible is a very weird and contradictory book.  If everybody took it at face value, they'd be stoning people to death for working on Sunday.

The Bible has been reinterpreted again and again since it was written.  This is why we have so many different varieties of Christianity.  Look at Martin Luther or John Calvin for differing religious philosophies.  Hell, even the Catholics differ from the Orthodox on the nature of the godhead.

There are many, many points of contention among different sects of Christianity and even within sects.  So, yes Virginia people in Bible class are likely better versed in Christian philosophy than the layman.

I dont think they take it very phiolosophically. I mean i guess there are some really nice christians im not hating on them, but from what ive seen they seem to take it pretty much at face value.  Example: 'jesus christ is our savior' 'he died for our sins' 'all of jesus glory', all seem face value to me.

Well, Christians werent the first people to get the bible. :confused:

Well, no, not really.  The original text was never really called the Bible and that hasn't changed.  Jews do not read the Bible, they read the Torah or the Talmud.  When someone talks about the Bible they are probably talkin gabout Christianity.

Now, the actual Bible was constructed in Rome during the reign of Constantine.  Before this, the stories of Jesus had never been written down.  Constantine, having converted to Christianity for alleged spiritual reasons but more likely for political reasons, decided to do away with the old religion of Rome and adopt Christianity as the state religion.  So, he had this big meeting and invited all the big wig Christian priests and they decided on what would be the Bible.  The stories that did not make the cut were pretty much outlawed and the people who believed them had to GTFO.  A few of them landed in Ethiopia where the stories continued to be told ever since.  Texts containing these stories were discovered a few years ago and called the Dead Sea Scrolls.

In there are some wild stories, including one of a child Christ miracling another child off a roof to his death.

God, lol.  I just went to the hot tub (like a good roman) and there were these two girls drinking large fruity drinks and ranting to each other about god and the devil like a couple of schizophrenics.  They had another friend who must have sensed my feelings about organized religions in my silence somehow, and came over to talk about other things.  Almost immediately she confided in me her deep sapphic love for a girl named Mary Jane.  We determined this girl must be a mutual acquaintance because the girl I knew by that name also had two cousins named Molly and Lucy.  She seemed to know them too, but must have had some kind of disagreement with the elder sister Lucy.  She agreed the girl is beautiful, but then turned on her warning me she was a liar, and would drive me absolutely crazy.  I myself have had my share of disagreements with our Lady of the Sky, but managed to reconcile long ago and as of late have had a deep fulfilling relationship with her.  I think this other girl was jealous.  Told me she was just looking out for me, haven't heard that before.  Anyways this conversation was fairly circular until we realized we were talking about almost the same things as her friends, still comparing strategies to get into heaven.  She thought this was hilarious and then confessed she actually really wanted to believe in god but just kept running into things that led her not to.  "I must sound like a crazy person."  Sweet girl, fucked institutions.

Your beliefs dictate what you have concluded to be unknown. Religion is perfectly logical and is no more different than having personal beliefs of the afterlife. Religion is just beliefs, beliefs are what you don't know. So its silly to argue about it being it would contradict one another.

Drugs were a major part in the beginning of all religions, there are very few exceptions. I've only read a couple references of the bible and those were base lined off of psychedelics (Blue honey, burning bushes that aren't burning etc.)              Terence McKenna has the closest explanation I've found to a scientific truth for the universe.

It's too late.  You already know the bible is a bunch of stories.  It isn't the word of god anymore than this thread is.  You can not go back.  You are free.
