unidentified british columbian hotspring psilocybe question
    #12493457 -

So this has been bugging me for years. on page 171 of psilcybin mushrooms of the world stamets has a picture of an unknown psilocybe.to quote the book:
"an interesting, active, but unknown psilocybe from a hotspring(grassland/ riparian zone) in remote british columbia canada, similiar to cyanfibrillosa."

on page 26 he mentions it again when discribing habitats.in the riparian habitat write up it states:
"geysers and hotsprings are examles of blending a riparian with a disturbed habitat.one psilocybe, simliar to cyanfibbrillosa, occurs in sedge grass at a hot spring near whistler british columbia........"

Being in the most northen area of the pnw we miss out on some serious species. especially azurescens, cyanfriscosas, and now subaeruginascens. this makes me hella jealous! i want something you lucky bastards down south dont get!!!

is there any information about these anywhere? is anyone else looking around hot springs or this kind of enviroment for psilocybes?
i dont know about you but they look like some really sexy looking mushrooms.

On a similar note, I have always been curious about the picture below that one. It says it is:

"An unusual and unknown Psilocybe, similar to P. semilanceata except for its large size and unusual cap shape. Found in Washington State."

They look like Hershey Kisses!

no kidding eh! it seems pretty wierd. these areas would be good edible areas i imagine too so it might be worth a look for both. i have hotsprings around here but its quite a 4x4 road to get there. i am going to try though this fall.

Psylosymon, if I was you, I'd seek out the rarest, most unique habitat in my area and go mushroom hunting there...especially if there were tales of unnamed Psilocybes in the general area. That's what I try to do here, not that there's much unique about New York.

The fact that your hot springs are remote makes it even better!

ya you know bob, thats exactly right. finding those unique microclimates and areas usually results un unique fungi. those are words to live by as a mushroom hunter.

there is only one commercial hotspring in my vicinity. the rest are are pretty remote. the whole province really has hot springs all over the place.

Its hard to say about the first ones, they seem a bit small for cyanofriscosa.

The second ones are probably Psilocybe semilanceata.

i definetly agree the seconds ones are just semis , the first ones do look different than cyanfibs, but too small you think? in the pic they look quite meaty and seem to be a decent sized mushroom. thats the thing, they are unknown and he only said they resemble cyanfibs. id love to see another image or find some info on these.
