Now that the big government is taking over our lives, we can now all celebrate the fact that we are safe and comfy.

I feel good that the government now has an all-access-pass to my medical records.

The insurance companies, which still control health care in America after the passing of this bill, already had an all access pass to your medical records. There are no new developments here...Your medical privacy is just as non-existant as it ever was.

I've been a little bemused by this whole thing as well. Where is it in this health care bill that privacy is taken away or government expanded? As far as I can tell the bill will actually reduce the deficit over time. In effect it makes government smaller. Is there some secret passage to this healthcare bill that people are not discussing or is this whole line of accusation a bunch of premium grade mushroom substrate (AKA horse shit).

Further I find the recent attempts to co-opt the words "Big Brother" by the right-wing and nutbager crowds from it's original publication by an anarchist author. The word was a psychological concept, a part of propaganda that was used to reinforce compliance with the government into social values, to make the populace aware that they were in a surveillance state and that they must comply with it's wishes. I think that the old "you can't mention this on TV what if (insert enemy here) is watching" is more similar to the idea of big brother than the way it's use is being co-opted.

Furthermore, I doubt some of the people using the term could even point Oceania out on a map.

You're drinkin the wrong kool-aid, bro. Big military = Big govt. The insurance
companies already owned our "elected officials". "Big brother" is not United States
government. Big brother is, was, and will probably continue to be banks, insurance
companies, and the heads of the food and agriculture companies.
We're gonna get taxed. We're gonna die. Doesn't matter who is in office, we will
still get taxed. The kool-aid I'm drinkin makes me believe that the first step to
getting our country back, is to make the correct choice as to were our tax dollar
goes. Spending money on healthcare, education, helping the poor. Those things
make the individuals of our country stronger and smarter which hopefully leads
to an awakening of the masses to start taking the bill of rights seriously.
If instead we use that money for war, our resources go to benefit "big brother".
There is very little to gain from war/military build-up for the individuals of this
country.
What does todays conservative conserve? To cut taxes for a wealthy minority
and then borrow that same amount of money to fight wars and such, I guess
the wealthy have conserved their wealth.

I don't understand all this they talk. Or left right, liberal or not. For all I can tell it's just all of us. We...

Which one of Us thinks if you don't have money but need care, instead you should Die.

I'm not supporting the healthcare bill, or anything. I think government us shit, they stole everything we have and then more for not filling a tax return five years ago onto of being in debt to the medical corporations Even With insurance at the time.

So I don't know what to say. I support legalizing drugs, letting people do what they want, and a minimal government to provide safety and security and actual positive benefits to society in return for all the taxes we pay.

I don't support the government meddling in all our shit.

Who am I ? I don't know WTF left or right, liberals or democrats is cause I don't watch corporate sponsored television. But we shouldn't force anyone to do anything or let someone die cause their too poor to pay $100000 for a couple stitches.

I have pondered the same sort of thing.

The best idea I have thus far is that they trust government far more than the people.

It may be something along the lines of: "People are inherently wicked and need to be controlled by an external authority..."

Many pseudo-liberals are confused in that they think "rights" are somehow granted to people out of the loving-kindness of big brother government.

I'm a liberal. Excessively so, one might say. And I believe no such thing as ^this^. In my opinion, the government exists to provide service to the people-roads, rail, healthcare, education, home building, all that jazz. And that's it-it's a service provider. A government has no right, none at all to have any say in what I think, say, do, read, believe, practic, eat, drink, smoke, the lot. My personal freedom is sacrosanct and intervention is only permissable when the exercise of my personal freedom infringes on the practice of another person.

The government should exist at the behest of the people, exercising the power granted to them by the citizens to facilitate society. This includes all the services above. They should act unilaterally for the interests of their citizens, with no other agenda. Unfortunately, governments have been corrupted and consumed by capitalism-they run countries like big businesses. The needs and rights of the citizens are secondary to serving the interests of the wealthy corporations. They curtail rights and freedoms, pass laws favouring companies over individuals, hell, as mentioned above they take entire countries to war, against the majority opinion, for the sake of money.

This is fucked up and I don't think you'll find a liberal who defends that attitude.

Basically, I believe this:

The democrats criticized war, but now that they are in political power the war machine goes on.

There is little difference between Bush and Obama in terms of foreign policy.

You seem to be concerned about civil liberties in America.  That is certainly healthy.

The problem that I see is that if you grow government you will see civil liberties erode.

Republicans today are not fiscally conservative.  They are neoconservatives who grow government just like their democrat counterparts.

There are a few things I would like to talk about regarding your views but I will look at the most important issue here regarding healthcare...

If you really hold that civil liberties are important, do you think that government is in the right when it writes legislation making it a mandate that citizens must buy healthcare.

WHAT RIGHT DOES GOVERNMENT HAVE TO TELL US THAT WE MUST BUY HEALTH INSURANCE?!?

What are your thoughts on this?

I feel for Obama on the war front.I think the man genuinely believes that s
war is notthe answer to the world's problems, but like any incoming government,he's stuck perpetuating the previous incombant's policies, for fear that flip-flopping may lead to a drop in the polls.Nowhere does this seem more pronounced than the US...

As for forcing people to buy medical insurance, honestly,no,I don't think that's right. And that's hard for me to say, because I do believe Obama is trying to help the country.I'm not overly familiar with the details of the healthcare bill,Im afraid.I did read an inital draft when he first proposed it,but in the meantime there's had to be so much dealing and backscratching to even get the thing past (what a great system of government,by the way ) that I'm sure it's been mutated beyond all recognition.
Is it the case people are complled to buy insurance?
Has Obama managed to arrange it so that such healthcare is affordable?

Ideally,I think the American healthcare system needs a complete overhaul. As in toward a state-provided service such as the NHS in the UK.Now before I get flames here,Im aware of some of the Republican spin has painted the NHS,and to be honest, that's bollocks.
I live here,I rely on that system and I cannot think of anything better.A system where all are treated, for any accident, injury or disease, from general practitioners through to brain surgery.
No bills,no treatment refused-the poorest soul, hell,a homeless man would get the same treatment as the investment banker.
There is a private option for those wealthy enough should they wish to avail themselves of it,but no citizen in my country is ever refused any medical treatment because they're not fiscally viable to be treated. That is something I am incredibly proud of.
I think this is the kind of system Obama had ideally in mind, but of course,he could never impliment it-for the screams of SOCIALIST!! if nothing else.
I do believe everyone should be entitled to medical treatment. But no,forcing people to buy insurance,if that's the case,is not the answer.

On the other hand,I'm "forced" to pay national insurance on my earnings that covers roads, education, healthcare, etc, and that's fine by me-it's a tax to pay for things I need and use.If this medical insurance premium is similar, than I may not see it as a violation of civil liberties.
Could you explain the specifics to me..?

Obviously,I think the American system is terrible, anyway.Social healthcare ftw!

Why have any sympathy with the current administration if it continues warfare?

People are not turned away at the E.R. in the U.S. if they can not pay and are uninsured.

Regarding the costs of socialized health care to society:

Social welfare programs are bankrupting America.

They are wreaking havoc in European nations as well.

I suspect that one of the major reasons that healthcare is expensive is because of government subsidization.

Can you follow the logic that when government throws money at an industry it will push prices higher?  The government subsidization of healthcare acts as an artificially placed increase in demand for the goods and services that make up the industry.

When government is footing the bill for healthcare it is difficult for people to see the price they pay.

What I mean is that they will pay the price for government healthcare through increased taxation and inflation of the money supply.

In regards to civil liberties the U.S. Constitution does not allow the federal government to place the demand on the people to buy a specific good or service.  The recent U.S. healthcare bill does just that!

"We have no opinion on your Arab - Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait. Secretary (of State James) Baker has directed me to emphasize the instruction, first given to Iraq in the 1960's, that the Kuwait issue is not associated with America."

It takes a "special" kind of person to think that refers to an invasion.  All it says is, "you work it out."  I suppose you think any time a judge sends lawyers back to the bargaining table that means he is sanctioning that they have a shoot-out.  It doesn't take that much intelligence to discern that statement refers to diplomatic efforts but lunatics can, and will forever, provide their own meanings to statements that non-nutcases clearly see to mean something else entirely.

I got about a half dozen stitches a few months back.  The bill came to over $600.  Luckily, I am fully ensured (only because my state passed a bill to keep me on my parents insurance for another 2 years), cost me a $10 copay.  $600 for 15 minutes of actual work and what 8 in. of string?  If that is what they are charging then it seems clear to me that the medical industry is operating in a competitive free environment.  Either that or actual medical care is increadibley inelastic and the greedy bastards are just screwing us.

Personally I think the health care bill is a step in the right direction.  Insurance companies and the medical industry when left to their own devices have run amok.  Can I say for certain that the health care bill will work out for the best?  No, but I can say for certain that leaving it up to the companies that gain by denying coverage and over charging sick people would have made it much worse.

The vast majority of Americans (75%) support an Audit of the federal reserve.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/30/fed-audit-supported-by-75_n_247765.html

They may not want to get rid of the fed just yet, but it is obvious that the American people are concerned about the fact that they and their elected officials don't know what the 'fed is doing with the money supply!
When the Americans find out what the 'fed has been doing they will be absolutely rip-shit.

Again, you can not make any rational argument against sound money.

You fail for the same reason that all neo-conservatives fail.

Neoconservatives are weak when they attempt to argue against the government takeovers and expansions.

They are weak because they fail to make the Constitutional arguments against said hostile (to citizen civil liberties) government acts.

You fail at arguing for restraint in government spending because neoconservatives never go to the point of really being fiscally conservative and arguing for sound money.  Neoconservatives whine about the lack of restraint in spending but will not give up the printing press.

Your argument against sound money amounts to valley girl logic using a charge card which is essentially what fiat money is given that it allows government to "pay" for it's freedom destroying idiocy through massive inflation of an immoral medium of exchange.

You have no business complaining about the government takeovers because you fail to make the moral arguments to include sound money.

Notice that neoconservatives support the use of aggressive empire building.

Zappa, it is either incredibly naive or disingenuous of you to make the attempt at saying that the U.S. diplomatic stance of apparent neutrality preceding the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was not a coldly calculated exchange utilized to create am excuse to invade Iraq.

It is childish to the extreme to make the argument that the purported U.S. stance on Iraq/Kuwait was not cultivated with an ulterior motive.

Intelligence agents and those who work the International Relations sphere are often one and the same individuals.

That is specifically why I call bullshit on your childish (or more likely utterly disingenuous view of foreign relation).  You aren't stupid enough to buy your own shit.
