Do Something Dangerous

I think it's a misconception, or stereotype, or an otherwise common assumption that spirituality has to necessarily involve quietude and solidarity; that it has to involve a gentle and careful reflection on life. Asceticism should be embraced not for it's encouragement of walking around naked with no possessions, but because it represents a faith in one of the extremes. It is characterized by an absence of "worldly pleasures" -- but I would say that safety, moderation, and any form of tip-toeing around our future is also a worldly pleasure. As another method of embracing the extreme, it is equally spiritual to jump off of a mountain, rob a bank, sell all of one's belongings and volunteer in Ghana, snort crank off of a hooker's ass, etc.

Pushing the envelope isn't timidly asking your boss for a raise, it's not having sex without a condom; it's not skipping out on your taxes or parking tickets... it's partaking in dangerous shit with the realization that it's a form of creative entropy. This sounds pretty lame coming from a message board, I know. I've had my fair share of balls-to-the-wall activities, but not enough. I want more.

Mckenna once said (I'm dropping the quotes more often now that I know it pisses some people off) of psychedelics that unless you question whether you've taken too much then you haven't taken enough. By the same token, in my opinion our lives should be lead in a similar manner -- to the point where sometimes we question if we've gone too far.

I also approve. Once while backpacking through Central America, soon after having sex with a cute foreign girl, I did some cocaine and went bungee jumping... and then jumped a second time right after. My face was flushed red and my heart was pounding, it felt amazing. Amid a lush tropical jungle, there was a lingering volcano in the background. Nothing like hearing some random locals encouraging you to jump in Spanish. 

Never heard of that book - gonna check it out now.
