Thanks
This just isn't true imo. There seems to be a general consensus among humans that being nice is the greatest good. And this is why people do not value truth above being nice. And this is why the human world is, at least partially, in the mess it's in.
Asking someone to "be nice" is just another way of saying I'm too frightened of what your truth might be.

I think we all face a resistance to beliefs that differ from our own. And the criteria we use to evaluate what makes an alternative belief valid enough to seriously consider, vary.

Not really imo. I generally don't buy into something unless there is undeniable evidence supporting it. Nowadays most of this evidence comes from data analysts and research studies, at least in my experience.

So if someone believes in something without your same criteria for evidence it doesn't bother you? You consider such views valid enough to consider seriously?
by vary I mean vary from person to person

If there is undeniable evidence of it I will never object. If it is a matter of opinion I'd have to rely on intuition, otherwise, I'll educate myself to my own satisfaction and come to my own conclusion.

Undeniable evidence is a subjective term. What is undeniable to you is likely denied by many.
Not that it makes any difference for your personal decision making process but that's not what I'm suggesting. I'm suggesting that your criteria are not universal.
