I'm walking on sunshine....and don't it feel GOOD hey!
    #1212041 -

Pardon my somewhat mindless post here people.( i know, what discerns this from all my others ) The real question here is.....what one song/piece of music(yes, it could be an entire side of Keith Jarrett/Miles Davis) picks you up by the seat of your scruff and gives you the inspirtion to carry on even when times are going bad?

My own nomination (of course) is "walking on sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves(circa 1982/83)......yes, it really HAS been that long since i've heard a song that lifted me up to that xtent........

pls DL it from wherever, have a listen and tell me that doesn't put a smile on your face! No diminished minor 7th arppegios or nuttin',just a really uplifting piece of music( i will not even attempt to get into the ultimate fallacy, imho, of her hopes/desires).......

.......question being(outside of how duz Freak manage to type being in sch a wasted state)......what songs really lift YOU up.......get you ready to face even the most demanding vissisitudes that life can(and often does) throw in your face?

Btw, to anyone i didn't personally PM, i would like to tke this opportunity to genuinely wish each and every last one of you the most prosperous(spiritually for sure, and finacially i guess) thwe most amazing of New Years.......

Besides Tool, the song "Take Me Somewhere Nice" by Mogwai.

No World Order- Todd Rundgren!

Let me tell you 'bout the new world order
Not the kind to make you run for the border
It's a new religion wrapped in a revolution
With a proven solution for your mental pollution

Cars and gold bars and chains and diamond rings
These are the symbols, we want the real things
Peace in the soul and a natural insight
Things that please the mind and make the body feel right

Don't let no one tell you that god ain't got a sense of humor
Someone said he's pissed off, but that was just a rumor
I know he's laughin' when the preacher starts to scream about
How trippin' is evil, and sex is unclean

Nature wants your life to go on long and on strong
To have children and show them where you went wrong
So if your life style leads you into hell or into prison
Wake up and listen, this is what you're missing

Free will, we can't seem to get our fill
We are beggers, we are choosers drunk on a lack of power
I believe in understanding, I've got to know where we're landing
I'm takin' my survey now, hands up if you're with me
Do you want different choices? Can't hear the quiet voices
Got to dim all the lights, turn down the volume
Put on a little more forgiveness, who's gonna be my witness?
If we must endure this trial, someone is bound to touch us

Do you want more sex, more comforting
A little more foreplay and afterglow, let my people go
Everybody wants peace on the earth, children sheltering
Calling every man, every woman
We're gonna take control of our own bodies

Peace breaks out in the battle of the sexes
We start to learn what the other one expects is
We stay away from what the other one rejects is
And have respect for individual perspectives

We're gonna break out of this cycle of dependency
And liberate each other from a hopeless life of drudgery
And face up to the truth as we dispel all of this secrecy
And simplify the situation when we learn to speak plainly

We're gonna take control of the machinery
Bad little actors that chew up the scenery
Job number one is gonna be findin' a way
That we can rave all night and meditate all day

Mankind's strugglin' hard to see the light
To hear the voice of the spirit in the night
To lay down his heavy burden and pick up his soul power
And build a heaven on earth hour by hour by hour

Child protection, more careful mate selection
Everyone wants to be wanted by a natural father and mother
Lookin' for a sense of wonder, don't let your faith go under
This is a beautiful world, if we could only give up fighting
The answer is surrender, every race, every gender
Beat our swords into plowshares on the anvil of a pure heart
We gotta have honest answers and the courage to take our chances
Opportunity's knockin' loud, give me your attention!

Works for me. Where have you bean, old chapstick?

"Marathon Shirt" by Self

In my opinion, one of the most underrated musicians of the current era.
http://selfmusic.net/

{EDIT: the lyrics} BTW, what's up with all the dreary lyrics?

Marathon Shirt
tell me who's to blame for this ink spot, question mark,
blood-stained sleeves in the parking lot
i've had it since i was twelve and i wear it like hell
wash it when it gets worn, dirty, tattered, torn
fell in love with me and wears me with pride
we bathe in ultra tide when i start to feel guilty
and everyone's jealous cause they wish they had it
i'm half a man without it
i'm the king of style
and i'll keep on wearing my marathon shirt
and i'll wear it everyday til it hurts
and i got no lady over her
confidence-a-plenty in my marathon shirt
once loaned her to a friend for a party and i worried all
night like a mother does
and when she returned all wrinkled and helpless, she smelled
of cheap cigarettes and other drugs
i'd wear her in any season
i'd wear her for any reason
the only promise in my life's that shirt of mine
and day after day, as her colors fade away, i'll remember
what she felt like the first time
now i've come to lay you down
you can soak into the sound and i'm so elated
she can't be recreated and the water's turning brown
my baby she's no hand-me-down

Cool song Mr. Mushrooms!

Mine would have to be Parabola..........or maybe Triad.

Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

Thanks Murex!

I have many anthems but that one is high on the list!

The music is really good that goes with it too!  It is fast-paced and parts are a little rappish.  Great stuff.  I have heard of your song and heard good things about it.

Cheers

so many songs could apply here, but the one I thought of first tonight was the song "maybe just once" by NIN.

can't believe that what i feel is really happening to me.
make it hurt.
and point the finger at my insecurities.
well i guess i just don't understand about those complexities in your mind.
and i guess i just don't understand why this world seems so unkind.

Chorus: maybe. maybe just once. i get what's coming.
maybe. maybe just once. i get what's coming to me.

so once again the way you feel will never ever stay the same.
and i'm to blame.
i wonder just who made the rules up for this game.
well i guess i just don't understand about what you want and what you need.
and i guess i just don't understand about how it has to be.

Chorus

you sat down on this bed and you said
"Christ, what the hell do you think this place is?"
you know.
he just couldn't believe it!
and i said
"i don't know but it sure is something different"

so go ahead.
you say those thousand things you think you have to say.
look at me.
and tell me love's not such a hard word anyway.
well how can you count on me i thought you realized for sure.
and how can you just believe.
i thought i deserved just a little more.

Chorus

oh God.
oh what's coming to me.

Me and My Uncle- Grateful Dead (actually it's written by somebody else, but the GD do it true justice)
Everything is Gonna Be Alright- Bob Marley

Those are the two I can think of right now.

Box of Rain

Look out of any window, any morning, any evening, any day.
Maybe the sun is shining, birds are singing,
No rain is falling from a heavy sky.
What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

Walk out of any doorway, feel your way, feel your way like the day before.
Maybe you'll find direction,
Around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you.
What do you want me to do, to watch for you while you are sleeping?
The please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too.

Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear to another day,
Maybe been seen before, through other eyes on other days while going home.
What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago.

Walk into splintered sunlight,
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land.
Maybe you're tired and broken,
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear

What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain, and love will see you through.

Just a box of rain, wind and water,
Sun and shower, wind and rain,
In and out the window like a moth before a flame.

And it's just a box of rain, I don't know who put it there,
Believe it if you need it, or leave it if you dare.

And it's just a box of rain, or a ribbon for tour hair;
Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

311 has been putting me in an optimistic upbeat mood lately. Most of the songs off of 'From Chaos', especially Amber and I'll Be Here Awhile.

Tool also inspires individual strength, reminds me how epic and divine my and everyone elses feelings are. (well Opiate and Undertow seem to be more of rant albums, but ?nima and Lateralus are really optimistic) songs: Triad, Parabol/Parabola, Lateralus, Stinkfist, 46&2, ?nima, and Third Eye, these really get me up there and give me strength as opposed to just trippin me out.

Incubus and Vida Blue give me really good vibes too. Science and Make Yourself are constant 'be independent' love pumping albums. And Vida Blue is just one beautiful groove. Makes me think of old guys who have been very happy all their lives.

aint music fuckin great.

Yeah Grav!

If any song makes me feel good its 311 - Amber.  Notice my name?

I think the song has a good shroomy vibe, it's what I want my trips to feel like (and what my trips feel like at their best times).

Whoooaaooooo amber is the color of your energy!!!

hahahah rollergirl... i think shakira would do better right there

i have to agree with postanaldrip... the warmth totally lifts any mood... any song form "make yourself" can do... and any song from "lateralus" esp. parabol/parabola, the patient and lateralus itself...

and "everybody hurts" lets everything flow... a beatiful song to cry your tears out and vent...

but my personal favorite would be a song by blind melon:

"Change"

I don't feel the suns comin' out today
its staying in, its gonna find another way.
As I sit here in this misery, I don't
think I'll ever see the sun from here.

And oh as I fade away,
they'll all look at me and say, and they'll say,
Hey look at him! I'll never live that way.
But that's okay
they're just afraid to change.

When you feel your life ain't worth living
you've got to stand up and
take a look around you then a look way up to the sky.
And when your deepest thoughts are broken,
keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin' it's time to die.

And as we all play parts of tomorrow,
some ways will work and other ways we'll play.
But I know we all can't stay here forever,
so I want to write my words on the face of today.
and then they'll paint it

And oh as I fade away,
they'll all look at me and they'll say,
Hey look at him and where he is these days.
When life is hard, you have to change.

god that song can turn any nightmare into the most beautiful trip...

namast

rofl have you heard it?

here lemmie find the lyrics, rofl, they're so stupid that they're funny to me:

lol I'll just post a few lines from here so as not to spoil the whole thing for those who haven't heard it:

You can turn the other cheek
You can just give up the ship
You can eat a bunch of sushi and forget to leave a tip

....

It's like spitting on a fish
It's like barking up a tree
It's like I said you gotta buy one if you wanna get one free

....

Dare to be stupid
Shout it out loud
Dare to be stupid
I can't hear you
Dare to be stupid
OK, I can hear you now

lol..
