This week's finds...with microscopy!

1-2 Agrocybe praecox
3-5 Entoloma vernum
6-7 Galerina marginata
8-9 ????
10-12 Galerina paludosa
13 Peziza praetervisa
14 Drosera rotundifolia w/ prey!

Can someone please help me identify pics 8-9....or correct any of my IDs? Thanks. :hypnotoad:





Habitat:
Growing on a log, in a bog, with a frog.

Gills:
Tan, attached

Stem:
1" long 1/4" thick, hollow, flexuous,
Cap:
2 1/4" on the largest specimen

Spore print color:
brown

Bruising:
none noticed

Could be Stropharia.  Do you notice a germ pore in those spores?  What type of pileipellis does this one have?

I don't know. Some look roughly ellipsoid, but those others are beyond me.

My eyes and scope aren't the greatest. I haven't observed germ pores on any spores yet. I don't even know what pileipellis are!

I've tried unsuccessfully to create my first cross section crush mounts.:shrug:

It looks like there is some kind of thing on the ends of the spores.

I did one this morning, it worked quite well.  Try starting with less material.

Are you able to take apart your microscope and use the pieces to test your new invention?

Because I'm working on the fly, I cut my part to accept the RMS objective thread...which my Nipponese optics do not fit...It's a small matter to make another piece, but they switched gears on me at work and I don't have the time to do it right now. I think I will take your original advice and turn to e-bay to find parts to finish the prototype. I really want to start the second prototype but first things first. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

The spores are a better match for Entoloma vernum complex. I made my ID based partly on the twisted stems (you can see in photo #4) but I've noticed that not all were twisted, and not to the extent that I've seen on photos of E. strictus.
