I never once claimed to be a "know it all". I will say I'm a "give me some evidence" guy. I'm more than willing to believe your mud ball is God, and if I saw your mud perform a muddy miracle you bet your bottom dollar I would start praying to the mud God and his gravelly  angels on that very spot.

Unfortunately for you, senior mudball preformed his miracles while you were out. There is no way you can accept that he did these miracles. That doesn't mean I will stop believing because you didn't see it. You will go to great lengths to discount what I saw. So you spend your life trying to prove I didn't see the miracle by playing woo bingo.

I understand that and I have no issue with it. The problem is when the mud ball witnesses come to my door and attempt to convert me to muddyism. Did they get their proof? If they saw the miracle, they sure did. Why is it shallow of me to ask the same? If the miracle happened while I was living you would still have some proof. I could talk to a once clinically dead corpse for example. That would be enough in my book.

You seem to think I take some active role in trying to disprove things when all I really want is for you to prove them before I join your club. If you didn't want me in your club why did you try recruiting me in the first place (hypothetical you obviously)? Why does this make me a bad guy? I don't go into churches and sinigogs to tell them they are wrong (well Jesus did it, and it worked for him), yet they are perfectly fine with coming to my home or my work to do the same. Yet somehow I'm the oppressor.

I question in every aspect of my life and other than when I apply this to religion, there is no qualm. If some dude in a suite comes to my door and tells me I can save hundreds a year if I buy his vaccum cleaner I'm going to ask for proof. Sure enough if he wants me to believe in his vaccum hes going to pull out fliers, testimonials, even whip out a little piece of rug for my very own experiments. If the good sir merely tells me "You need faith that the vaccum will save you money" I'm going to say "uh hu" and close the door.

Spiritual belief is an opinion, and like any opinion, when you speak them they will be dwelt upon and spoken over. If you do not want a specific opinion of yours to be spoken about, then don't voice the opinion.

Granted I'm not telling you to shut up or anything. That would be rude and small minded of me. I just mean that if you want something kept private then the buck stops with you. As soon as you flaunt it and try to recruit with it, people like myself will ask for some evidence first.

Drakion, from these first words I DO want to apologize for calling you a fool..that was mindless of me, maybe my posts here on out can have a little more regards for respect, friend!

I think our biggest misunderstanding at this point is our definition of God

My biggest statement thus far has been the confusion of the IDEA OF GOD, all powerful, all knowing, and the quite obvious confusion that God is the one spoken of in the Bible..... whether it be the New Testament God, and even thus far as the original Jehovah as described pre-Gospel...

I AGREE wholeheartedly about having "religion" shoved down our throats.

Quote:
as they would gladly allow "infidels" and "heretics" to die horrible deaths merely to appease their bloody handed God(s). Is this the religious morality of which you speak?

I guess this where MY argument needs to come to a different understanding....  This is where we come to a very common agreement about that statistics to show that MAN as a whole has and probably will continue with its moral INEPTITUDE, regardless of RELIGION

However, I know who I am, and I know that MY feelings about MY GOD goes so far to allow me(not force!) me to make more sacrifices, allow tolerance, and see more clearly about our world, then not just the average atheist but the average theist as well. I won't apologize for being elitist.... there are simply people out there who are more ethical, naturally.

You, questioner of reality and the fallacies of mankind is PROOF and EVIDENCE(enough for ME) to show that you are extraordinary compared to the average person.

I say this rather bluntly, because no matter how much I believe in the equality of people and each and every persons capability to be GOOD!, some people just simply have not left the Temple of Ignorance which perpetuates mankind.

In respect to the foxhole equation, and to define the religious nut(perhaps religious was not the correct term) I had described... the nut in question is not a Christian, but rather someone SO CONVICTED in their beliefs in morality that they would stand a better chance to not succumb to cowardice. My OPINION is that most atheists probably could give a SHIT LESS if I died, no matter who I was or what beliefs I had.... What is their reason to save me??(I realize I called out atheists.... I think as much of a Christian and an Atheist if they share a common complacency towards life...In short I agree that the argument of morality has been beat to death, I can assure you that there are people out there like me, who believe in morality and sacrifice... THAT IS MY RELIGION[in regards to the definition of religious nut]!!)

Believe me Drakion, with my extreme(I'm a self defined "religious" nut) stance on Morality and Sacrifice.. I would die for YOU. It's crazy, and I would completely understand that VERY FEW people in the world would do the same for me. I can however come to my own conclusion that anyone similar to me(in terms of conviction and wishing the world to be a better place) would be more likely to sacrifice then the AVERAGE person(theist or atheist, we both agree that there are different classes of people in regards to moral dignity). I do agree that religious or not, ANYONE can share the moral compass that I and you share, and I DO understand that just because someone believed in God does not mean they have that moral compass. (I hope this can help you relate to my feelings in the foxhole?!)

I hold an opinion that the quickest way for Earth to unify under peace would be through God and not through Atheism...(simply because more people believe in God then not) This would of course require the dissolution of ignorance and evil perpetrated by the most powerful world religions of today. (this opinion is very debatable, just my opinions..lets not get into it haha!!)

Fact is, my God IS morality, sacrifice, what we would call good, and I know that I cannot prove this. In this, we share the same Idea, calling it different things. I LOVE to shove morality down people throats by the way!!

I'm choking up trying to explain...  Basically it comes down to atheists claiming oppression and what not... yet coming to a public forum and INITIATING a conversation about proving God is real or not... I dunno it's just a funny thing to me...to want to avoid the topic because they are so firm in their ideas, yet argue with the same silly bastards that they despise  .... sorry if I'm not clear with this, I'm not really accusing you Drakion, I'm accusing these people (www.rationalresponders com )

I mean really... I understand the argument against religion in a sense of the greater evil it might cause... as for people knocking on your door, bill boards in the name of Christ, yeah it annoys the hell out of me. But it's no worse then normal billboards, or vacuum salesmen, or 55 minute commercial free music where after every other song they advertise that the station is 55 minutes commercial free, doctors prescribing drugs because they get paid to, pop ups, "there's no such thing as free lunch", hotels that do not accommodate "little people", idiotic inept people who are allowed to drive vehicles, or carry a gun, a own a home, have a child, make weed illegal

I mean, all these things are annoying, but you don't see nearly half the posts complaining about these things then I see about Atheists bashing Theists... NOR DO I SEE AS MANY POSTS WHERE THEISTS BASH ATHEISTS(I think the shroomery can be safely said to be a nice little control group too, being a "spiritual more open-minded community" I think there is actually GOOD BALANCE between "God" and "No-God" people.)

Thing is, we all find these things annoying but whats the difference between a Jehovah's witness and another solicitor?!?! Not much, everyone hates both groups quite equally, but you can't complain about one and not the other.

Separation of State is a good thing and we all need to continue to enforce this, using our words and our actions, but I don't think it's fair to come into an entire argument claiming the ineptitude of past religions.

Really this is and will always be a touchy situation because we are on an anonymous internet forum. We can go to whatever lengths we can to gauge each other intelligence, what depths they took to try and understand the known and quite frankly the UNKNOWN world.

It is my own opinion that God can only be proven to the willing. There is no moral, spiritual, or religious dogma in this wording.... Quite simply, God can only be proven to ones innerself, through their own conviction.  ...shocking.. FAITH ....  really I have no qualms wit ya Drakion, you seem to be very decent, people come to their moral grounding through whatever means necessary.

I have no rituals in my life, in religious terms. If we met in person, you probably would find little difference in how we go about our lives, and in the quality of decisions we make. Different from you, my BELIEF in God(and the ability to ponder on It) has given me at least something to crutch myself on(sorry all to you HATEheists for being weak)    whereas you might find Happiness in life from the thought of flowers or of a child's smile(all of which I define as God )

Negative proof... whatever I don't care anymore, people should believe in what they will, but I still stand by my original arguments on this subject. However I have no evidence to support the "there is no evidence that there is evidence" clause... so we'll just move on. STILL I don't think its cool to be an Atheist, and to come to a gunfight with only a Bible... WHICH is one of my original arguments that VERY MANY atheists have very readily, and conveniently skirt past... you're right it IS convenient to fight Christianity because it IS the major player... I hate this "minor discrepancy" nonetheless.

There has been a pandemic of rebuttal posts of late pointing out the 'fact' that no one has any evidence against the existence of God/ghosts/aliens, etc.

Apparently these 'clever' posters think they have scored a point yet don't even have any idea of what they are talking about. When asked what form this negative evidence would take, the usual answer is: TOTAL SILENCE.

Doesn't their TOTAL SILENCE back up their argument that such evidence doesnt exist? Surely if you could speculate about the evidence, you'd have a vague idea that the evidence could exist...as there's no evidence possible either way when God etc is concerned, TOTAL SILENCE seems fair enough to me. So what's your point?

PS why do you start so many threads with sweeping accusations/arguments and then simply post joke replies? Is it fun?

You are only the 280th poster to question my motivation. How boringly original!

Is this part of the forum rules? No.

Is it relevant? No.

Are you forced by some unseen power to participate in threads you dislike? No.

Do you question every other poster's motivation? No.

Do you post your own motivation for every thread topic? No.

Do you know how to use the PM system?

Anything else you would like to know?

There is negative evidence, of course. The problem is that it has to clearly and well described a)what you look for, b)where and even c)when you look. I can proof that there's no elephant in my garden at this moment. Would a picture of my cam with time-stamp be sufficient ?

If you look for the absence of g*d you have to very well define a)what you are looking for first.

So you agree with me that if someone comes into an argument with a predetermined "idea" of what said object is...even going so far as believing as much of the heretic bullshit that they object.

Very few people would like to object the unsubstantial evidence concerning the frunction of brains which in MY book, in MY idea,
IT Is what I defined as what some mortals may call "god"

I can not take someone seriously if they come after me like i some friggin Christian or Muslim sheeeshhh talk about tolerance

Hate is man's blindfold and a few early chapters in a book dubbed Genesis seemed to sure get a lot correct about human history. Who played a role in it you can't say it was religions fault because in MY BOOKS Pope Corruption ain't a true GOD FEARING person... they are just as Atheist as any ...

this is why it is hard to argue. everyone has each their own veils and blinds upon the windows ... if you have got a mind you do, and that EVIDENCE seems to run the course whether that be global, Shroomery, a group of friends ...

once someone comes to a public forum, denoting their feelings over a topic (NOONE CALLED THEM OUT)... to come out and immediately ASSUME the very thing THEY ATTACKED FIRST ... .welll thats when I pull out the you have no evidence you have no evidence  ..clause...  BECAUSE the group(we call God objectifiers or atheist scum[jk don't ban me]_ 's usually SINGLE argument against either
A.)The god, as described by objectifer, as translated into english through bad translations and we end up with Jehovah ..
♥B.)the God I believe in which is as simple as a flower in the wind

is that there is no evidence for its truthfulness.

vsA.) most people going this route usually decide to bash Bible stories which they themselves ALSO CLAIM are purely fictional stories....... we can trash this as valid evidence either way for debate because an atheist has usually already declared this evidence as trash, unworthy.-------AKA they set themselves up for failure cause they come at me with words like Jehovah and Thor and i dunno wtf mate  --------

♥B.)Flowers exist as do the wind... both things as which can be described by science,  thus IS evidence...these things exist , and we can prove it!!!!!

My God ....

Do you believe in consciousness the ability to think ... how do you define this? with scientific words  like trippy and fucking crazy man i'm going fucking crazy

Counterarguments

aA.)GO(hereby defined as God Objectifier) has assumed because you cannot measure God there cannot be evidence for its existence--IT HAS NO PHYSICAL PROPERTY TO OBTAIN AS EVIDENCE OF TRUTH(exhibit A)

vsaA.)consciousness can also be described as having no scientific explanation by physical means(exhibit A)        OTHER THEN neurons in our quite obviously physical brain matters

As the neurons orgy on and blow past memory cross my forehead that is to the flowers blowing in the wind  ...

Do you believe in Consciousness?

Apology accepted, though I don't really remember being called a fool. I guess after being called so much in my life words that belittle me tend to be forgotten quickly.

Thank you for the kind words, as they are something I'm not oft to find in forums of spiritual debate.

Quote:
What is their reason to save me?

Compassion, kinship, love for all things natural. I offer my services out of the goodness of my heart, and not for the rewards of eternal pleasures. When I see someone in distress I act out of the mutual betterment and companionship of mankind.

I believe that everyone has the ability to be good, and left to their own devices they will naturally seek peaceful and helpful outcomes in situations. I think an individual will only start to lean towards (or even feel) negative impulses only when they are taught such. I think the label of God in these two situations is merely one of many catalysts. One could believe that God is the source of the compassion or their hate, it just depends on which way they were taught to apply it. God(s) is/are not the reason, but an example.

Quote:
someone SO CONVICTED in their beliefs in morality that they would stand a better chance to not succumb to cowardice.

I will agree to this, as a person who is utterly and completely convinced of a cause will stand steadfast regardless of the outcome, including one of death. Where we differ is you make me believe that you only think this kind of determination can only be induced by the hand of God(s). There can be many factors to produce such an effect, and not all are just. Some examples would include patriotism, wealth, family, or even something so simple as the love of trees.

Quote:
I would die for YOU

I thank you for the offer, but I think you should toss a (*) on the end of it. I'm more than sure there are situations where you would gladly not die for me, or may even promote the idea of my death. Now don't be offended or taken aback by my assertion, but the simple facts are there are things I can do that would change your conviction of preserving my life.

Can you honestly tell me that if I was holding a child ransom for money with a gun to their head and officer friendly took the shot to end my life, you would jump in the path of the bullet? I doubt it.

Now if I pulled the trigger on the child, would you be willing to jump in the path then? I would like to believe so, and I think many people would be willing to do the same. Now what if it was a Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or Atheist child? I believe that if the potential saviors knew that tidbit of info, the percentage of people willing to trade places would greatly fluctuate depending on corresponding/conflicting faith.

I don't see this as moral ineptitude regardless of faith, but moral ineptitude brought on through faith.

Quote:
quickest way for Earth to unify under peace would be through God and not through Atheism

I agree. If Allah made the sun say "Allah is real", came to earth and started touring with miracles you would see the earth unify faster than a line forming for free pie.

The problem is there is nothing like this, and all faiths have the same thing to show for their claims . . . nothing. So as a result faiths fracture infinitely, new faiths are forming (you need your Thetans cleansed!), and there is no end in sight.

Quote:
This would of course require the dissolution of ignorance

Now we come to the dirty, ape loving, Darwin worshiping Atheists who have "nothing" to offer. They have plain, boring, unexciting, science. They don't hide eggs and decorate trees. They don't dance around fires or hypnotize snakes. They don't have wondrous stories of men flying on carpets, or women changing the weather. They always require evidence first, so they have zero amazing stories and no cool promises to offer.

All they have are their facts and logic. So what's the problem with them? Their mere existence threatens the multi-billion dollar, tax free, ever present, all controlling, fear inducing machine that is religion. So through religious propaganda Atheism is viewed as a scourge. Something vile and evil. They preach that we are unthinking, uncaring, remorseless puppets of near-life unable to show acts of kindness or compassion and never feel love.

That's simply not true. Atheists have a stronger connection to morality than any person of "Main stream" faith. We make our decisions purely on a "here and now" mind set. We do good works for the betterment of humanity, and the progress of the human race. We give no thought to supernatural reward, and we are not seeking divine head pats. We do not think we are better than someone else because "we are of the chosen people" and do not view human urges and actions as something to be repressed or cloaked. We embrace our humanity and promote free thought and unbiased action. We refuse to think of ourselves as being born "unclean" or in need of "saving". Through the dissolution of ignorance you must dissolve this kind of faith. Both can not co-exist.

Complacent towards life? When I read of the Inquisition, female genital mutilation, African genocide, Irish Catholic/protestant conflicts, Buddhist castes, Roman persecution, Human sacrifice, Crusade/Jihad, plus hundreds of others all attributed purely to faith I see complacency towards life. If I was complacent towards life I wouldn't be typing this right now.

And what crimes can you pin on Atheism? Why coming to forums and asking for evidence of religion of course. Oh the atrocity.

Quote:
I dunno it's just a funny thing to me...to want to avoid the topic because they are so firm in their ideas, yet argue with the same silly bastards that they despise

Avoid? Sure, I would love to avoid dogmatic debate, but the fact of the matter is if I don't say something, it's going to just get worse and worse. Their goal is to control me, my aim to remain free and free others. So if I care at all, I need to take some action, so I do.

Despise? No, no, and no. When I speak to people my goal isn't to anger them, belittle them, or to antagonize them in any way. What are my goals? I want to free them. Yes, I'm sure you just scoffed right now, but I really do see religion as a cage, and believers as the captive. Religion controls their actions, their words, and their thoughts. Don't do this, don't do that, don't say this, don't say that. Even thinking it makes you guilty of doing it, so don't even think it. Now give them all your money so they can expand, build, and conquer. Then after you do all this and die, you will be rewarded. After all, all you really need to do is die. I see this . . . I cringe . . . and I fear for people. Billions of people swallow this, hook line and sinker. They go about it as if there's nothing strange about it all, because to them there isn't. Their grandparents did it and indoctrinated their parents while the children were too young to know any better. Their parents did it and indoctrinated them while they were too young to make decisions. They intend to follow through as well and fully expect their underdeveloped child's mind who they just indoctrinated into their religion to do the same. This insane cycle repeats over and over and over, while religious leaders laugh all the way to the bank for depositing of your tithes.

The horrible part in all this is when I even attempt to show them what they are doing they become irate and belligerent. How DARE I break from their traditions! How DARE I question their dogmas! How DARE I ask them to look around! How DARE I attempt to remove their restraints! They scare the shit out of me, but I really want to help.

(simply because more people believe in God then not)

But there is hope. Atheism is on the rise. Currently one is six people are "Strong" Atheists. In many of the leading European and Asian countries, Atheism is viewed by almost half the population. A recent Mensa study shows that as individuals intellect and education rises, the belief of religion lowers. Let's work together to end world ignorance.

Ok, I admit I got a little emotional when writing this, and that is a miracle in and of itself. I'm normally very able to keep my emotions in check while writing, so if my rant offended you I do apologize as this is a very deep subject for me.

I would like to just say a few more things before the end.

When I speak of religion, I do not mean spirituality. I view them as two separate entities.

I fully understand what you mean when you speak of your God. What you have is something to be cherished as I think you live life according to your own philosophies and your own beliefs. God is as much part of you as anything will ever be. You see God everywhere and feel a personal connection to him/her/it that is beyond words. You will not allow others to impose their views or practices upon you, as you have already found what you were looking for. I firmly believe our true differences between you and I are: you think you follow your God's convictions and values, while I believe that your God mirrors you. But the fact of the matter is the outcome is the same: A good person.

What you have is an amazing thing, and I hope nothing ever takes that away from you. If everyone thought like you then there would be none of the dogmatic ugliness of the world that we are forced to endure today.

I'm long winded . . . I know.

So is agnosticism. It's pretty tough to celebrate and debate something that you assert is unknowable.
