Why Do Women Like Popular/Powerful Men?
    #8334933 -

Women in general seem to be very attracted to powerful men. My grandma to this day still shakes when she thinks about Elvis and she's pushing 80.

I'm only talking about women in general though, I personally don't know one intelligent woman who is attracted to a man just because of his status.

Hopefully I can get some real women replying to this and not just Icelander.

I'm personally not attracted to guys because of thier social status or "power." I am attracted to men that I have respect for, however, and I usually respect people the most who are doing something with thier lives other than just drinking and bumming around, which in my social circle means that I often end up dating musicians and thus end up with people who have some kind of scene cred. It isn't the status that's attractive, it's the qualities that earned them a position of respect amonst the wider social network in the first place. Being nice guys, being good musicians, being interesting, etc.

There definitly are silly women out there that seek out "powerful" men to elevate thier own social status. It seems like a pretty boring game to me.

Power and influence show he is capable, if nothing else.  It feels good to have a man or a woman that everybody else wants.

Have you ever showed up at a party with the hottest woman in the whole place?  It's a godlike feeling.

"Popular and Powerful?"

You mean like Batman?

I always did prefer the John Constantine types...

What is that supposed to mean? Alot of people I know do nothing but party, and on it's own that gets old fast. Musicians also drink and bum around (is that why you think i'm full of shit?) but they also create something and are actively engaged with projects of thier own choosing that have nothing to do with making money.

LOL!

This is only funny to me because I have a 'musician' friend who hasn't had a job in 2 years and has been working on his album for even longer.

Make fun of me all you like. We all tend to like those we relate to. I think that creating art is a valid project, much MORE valid in my opinion, than getting into business or starting a family to alleviate one's sense of inferiority and meaninglessness. I think you're just jealous that musicians get laid as much as they like. :smirk:

women tend to see powerful men as a way to move up in status or in the higher archy. they see them as a chance to get more power.

tho thats not always the case. but isnt that what the mating game is about when its a game and specially when it involves power/popularity in a relationship.

there are those that do just desire a nice mate to mate with a be away from society and all.

A man in high status, rich, respected, or generally just a badass will have women faun over him. This is simply just left over from our monkey genes. A female looks for a male who will provide for her and her young the best. So that outward display becomes sexy

oh man, oh man, oh man. a groupie!
I hope you dont get seriously angry at this, but niam, I am a soundguy. I run sound for atleast 3 bands a night, 6 nights a week... ranging from the most atonal nobodies to nationally touring acts and if there is one thing I know plenty about... is groupies.
and I mean that term in its broadest (PUN!) sense. not just the hardcore groupies that follow a band around hoping to catch some falling semen.. but any female that hangs around after the show that isnt in the band, or working the show.
I have seen them all, and there is no female demographic that is immune to groupie syndrome.
and Im not knocking it... hell I love groupies, they do anything to get back stage and bring plenty of pussy for everyone...
but its the same justification I see over and over again. There is no difference between the musician and that other guy except the idea you have in your head that allows you to really believe the exact same bullshit that every other guy has said to you.
now, I dont peg you for the die hard groupie... the one that thinks that the guy on stage that looked in her direction (even though he cant see shit with 20k watts of par cans hitting his eyes) had a connection and peered into her soul and she just knew that he was singing to her.
you might be a level 2 groupie though... the ones that "date" the musicians. the ones that think when they go on the road, they arent knee deep in pussy and are staying "true". the ones that really believe that he wrote that song about you.
then there are the level 3 groupies... usually hotties that act like Girls Gone Wild is filming in exchange for drugs on the tourbus and being able to nonchalantly say "yeah, I partied with/know those guys" and follow it up with some seriously skewed piece of gossip.

but can you honestly admit here and now that someone holding the sway of a group of people (power) isnt attractive?
or that being the girlfriend of that guy that every woman in the room wants to fuck isnt empowering to you?
Im not saying that bardship doesnt hold its own allure... Im a musician at times and I notice the effect that simply sitting down at a piano at a party has on women.
but you are seriously fooling yourself if you are trying to claim that is all that does it for you. otherwise you would be scouring high school band halls for excitement or just listening to myspace bands without looking at the pictures for that band that really got your panties wet.

Wouldn't it just be an inbuilt natural urge to reproduce with the most likely to provide, thus survive?

Not that i agree with goldiggers who hang around certain clubs just trying to pick up footballers, but its just nature. Survival of the fittest.

Anus, what a fucking presumptuous load of bullshit. I'm not a groupie of any kind. I don't hang out after shows trying to talk to the band. In fact I usually never talk to band members unless they are my friends, and if on some rare occassion I do decide to approach a band member it is because I really liked thier music and want to talk to them about that. I happen to be friends with alot of musicians because I AM a musician myself. In my broader social circle the majority of people are artists of some kind. I don't date people because they are musicians, but its seems like everyone I know is one, so there you go. But I don't have to justify myself to you, so you can take your presumptuous stereotypes and go fuck yourself.

I work at a music rehearsal studio and believe me when i say only musicians who play good covers of famous songs, or have potential to be famous get layed in relation to music. Unless its teenage stuff where they like to tell theyre frineds "my boyfriends in a band"

There are girls out there who can see through it all though, just like theres men who realise the whole chasing money as a lifetime acheivement is quite hollow. Far & few between it seems, i know for a fact when my car is washed waxed & shiny alot more girls eyes get caught.
I call it the magpie effect
