Xanax doesn't come in 5mg
You must mean .5 mg

that would be 1.5 mgs

Obviously the 15 mgs is a mistake.
He said three 5's, alprazolam has never been produced in 5mg.
So the guy does not take 15 mgs of alprazolam.
I'm sure he means .5's

Yeah, I was hoping to God that he meant .5mg. With 15mg a day you'd be lucky if you were alive after missing a days dose.

Oh and I disagree with all of America being unsafe. I've lived in my town for 8 years and have never once felt unsafe. I've never been robbed and I've never known anyone from this area that has been robbed. It doesn't mean it's not going to happen, but it's highly unlikely.

Now in the city is a different thing. Still I've only felt threatened once and that was from a gang of straight edge punk college students that were looking for a fight.

Ironically enough the last time I've heard of someone close to me getting robbed was my best friend, while he was in Amsterdam. He was robbed at knifepoint coming out of his hotel and lost about 200 Euros and his cell phone.

Don't feel bad. That amount of Xanax really is alarming.

I know one person that has ever taken that much.... and he ended up setting his bathroom on fire that night.

Owning guns is only partially for protection... The point is the government SHOULD NOT CONTROL GUNS, and it's my fucking right to own one for whatever reason I want. The end.

They wrote the fucking bill of rights in order. #1 is obviously the most important, but the right for any sane, non criminal to own a weapon is fairly clear. It's #2!

I'm not saying this guy should have a gun or not... I'm not his doctor. But the point I'm trying to make is that people should be more aware of the real issue. Which is our government slowly eroding the fucking Constitution.

And he's obviously on 1.5... 15 is absurd. It's like saying I take 500mg of Percocet a day for back pain.

After five years of Other Drugs Discussion I have to disagree with you. It's entirely possible that he's on 15mg Alprazolam a day. We have members who own ounces of pure alprazolam.

If he's on 1.5mg.. that makes all the difference. Then it's up to him to thoroughly assess his mental state and he might well be a candidate for owning a gun.

For 15mg: no dice. This is why:

Quote:
Most people that I've seen combine alcohol and bars, or just take too many benzos turn into raging lunatics or jerks, myself included.
A "friend" who when he was a teenager, took 2 bars and drank a six pack, then proceeded to go home and ask his mom for money.
When she said no, he trashed her house, then sprayed her with pepper spray and hit her in the jaw, then kicked her in the stomach.
"He" has no memory of the incident, he only knows what was in the police report, and what "his" mother said in the trial as a witness.

If you are under very high doses of benzos you are prone to spontaneous bouts of insanity. In that regard it might as well be Datura - you can spend hours in a state where there's nobody behind the wheel upstairs, and where you do the craziest things, not seldom quite violent things too.

Also, someone needing 15mg xanax to deal with his anxieties is way more reason for concern than someone popping three 0.5's, even though that's still quite substantial.

Like he himself said, guns don't kill people, people kill people. If he is using 1.5mg xanax gun-ownership is negotiable but at 15mg he shouldn't own a gun period.

Quote:
it's my fucking right to own one for whatever reason I want.

You are sane though. People on extreme doses of benzos are prone to bouts of "insanity" that's not seldom violent in ways uncharacteristic of their personalities. If you are on 15mg xanax you shouldn't just not own a gun, you shouldn't be allowed to drive anything beyond a bicycle.

Quote:
The point is the government SHOULD NOT CONTROL GUNS

Should every 12yo be able to buy a gun then? Violent offenders? The government has to draw the line somewhere.

It's easy to stuff me in the anti-gunners camp. I'm not, in fact I'm a recreational shooter (airguns & air pistols because of local law here) and if I lived in the US in a risky area then I would probably own some firearms. (a Glock 17 and an AK47 would be my first purchase ) I believe in self defense and home defense. But we all draw a line who should have a gun, and IMHO someone on 15mg xanax should not.

I gotta admit. You did give me a bit of a startle when I heard you say you were taking 15mg of Xanax per day.

Frankly I was amazed that you were able to write so coherently.

Thanks for the info Wiccan... I thought 15mgs a day would kill someone. Xanax must have a huge dose range! I never took one and probably never will.

And my sanity is always in question, but I also shoot recreationally, and I can safely handle a weapon. I may be odd, but I'm not going to just off and shoot someone for no real reason.

I just hate seeing people missing the big picture of "gun control" while focusing on every school shooting, accidental death and violent crime... We should have guns because the founders of the country said so... pretty clearly.

The emotional pull of dead children should have no impact on the founding priciples of my country.

No problem, I'm just very glad you're not on 15mg a day, because that would mean you'd have a very severe substance abuse situation going, as well as an out-of-control anxiety problem.

I hope you realize the condemnation on my part wasn't personal. You use three 0.5's; I hope you can see why I don't want you to have a gun if you were on thirty 0.5's a day.

Well the thing is tolerance here. We have members who are sitting on ounces of pure alprazolam. This kind of unlimited supply can lead to humongous tolerance issues. He said he took three 5's a day. As a seasoned mod of Other Drugs Discussion I had to reckon with the possibility that he had a humongous tolerance, had laid a box of sugar cubes with 5mg apiece and took three of those a day. If he says he takes three times 5, even though it's way out there, I'm going to reckon with the possibility that he in fact does.

It's common that members obfuscate minor facts of posts to avoid self-incrimination - such as saying that he got it on prescription. That could mean that either he messed up dosage info or he's sitting on a pile of illicit alprazolam.

It's not as much that Xanax has a high dose range (it does) but it's tolerance that comes into play, it's like addicted people who shoot a gram of heroin or meth while most people without a tolerance drop dead if injected with 1/10 of that amount.

If a mere mortal without a tolerance swallowed 5mg, they'd either be out there in weirdville or out cold in a deep sleep. I'm a 325lbs guy without a tolerance but I'd be somewhat hesitant to eat a 2mg bar, let alone two and a half of them. 2mg bars aren't meant for normal peoplre, they are meant for people who have a tolerance.

To put Xanax in perspective: On the day they take you from your cell and strap you onto the electric chair they offer you the equivalent of 1mg Xanax. Even when the fear of death is entirely justified they only give a nontolerant person 1mg.

For alprazolam the acute oral LD50 in rats is 331-2171 mg/kg

Problem is that it might well be that what kills one 1lb rat would also kill a 200lbs human.
