Would have to be the 1911. I've always liked the look of them, simple and very cool. If I ever got one I'd buy a shoulder holster for it too

I like glocks, but they're pretty chunky and surprisingly heavy.

Not really a fan of the desert eagle. Heavy, chunky and a needlessly big round for a sidearm. I've never fired one but I've held a deactived one, and it wasn't easy to aim because of the weight. I'd be cool firing a .50 pistol for the novelty, but I bet it's a nightmare to shoot.

There is no comparison........

It's the 1911, have several to race, defense, and tricked out.

The 50 is completely worthless unless you in a movie!!!!!!!!And then it might 'look' cool. Complete junk, no self respected gun owner would have one.

Now the glock, I just dont like them, it does not fit me like the 1911 which it seems was made just for me.

A gun should fit you, dont buy what looks cool, or stats on a given gun. If you cant shoot it, then whats the point. So dont buy what you want, but what fit's you.

Gun ranges often rent guns, and those would be available, Give em a go.

The most battle-proven and without a doubt the best-looking handgun of them all (personal taste) would be the Model 1911, but the Glock seemed more practical to me and holds almost twice the bullets, plus a .40 seems a lot easier on the shooter than firing .45 ACP all the time!

If you or someone else more gun-savvy than me would want to make a more extensive but also *illustrated* handgun poll, then by all means go ahead. I realize there are no revolvers, for one.

It would be interesting to have an illustrated poll of let's say the ten most popular handguns, and see which is the Hippie Special

OK people: which handguns should be in the big handgun poll, and I'll make it!

out of those three, i'd pick the 1911. it's a classic. i'd get a kimber make.... but then if i were to buy a .45, i think i'd go with a springfield armory XD or HK USP.

for purely recreational shooting though, why not a .22? for that i would definitely go with a .22 revolver of some kind. they're cheap, the ammo is cheap, and they have low recoil and noise. if you want a target gun with a little more punch, a 9 mm is a better choice than any of those. for that, i think a browning high power is the best choice.

i personally prefer to shoot shotguns, though that can get expensive. clay birds are more fun than stationary targets, and if god forbid i ever have to reach for it in an emergency, i know i have a good chance of winning standing behind a shotgun.

Glock 22
M1911
Desert Eagle
Browning Hi-Power
Colt 45 Peacemaker
44 Magnum

shotguns are a little big for hallways small rooms, in the middle of the night, when you still sleepy, and it could jam, which a 6 shot cant.

But I like my Bellini M3 12g, which is a pump and semi,"Tactical' and it can digest any load!

a shotgun is a little overboard in the firepower department for home defense, but an 870 does have the added bonus of a pump action, the sound of which will most likely send any would be home invader out the door very quickly.

My vote is still for a good 1911, if only because of the simple fact that it is easily modified to fit any owner.

The Glock .40 isn't a military handgun. Since the SEAL's use SIG-Sauers' my favorite firearm (I shoot for the SIG team), I'd pick a SIG P229 or a SIG made 1911.

I've fired the .50AE before, as well as the .500S&W, they really don't "hurt" your hand. I've nver had a problem with recoil "hurting" before, it's just a bit of a jerking motion.

I've shot .45ACP's for days on end, I once put 3750 rounds of .45ACP through my SIG 1911 in one day. Recoil isn't really an issue, to be honest. I've never once, in my years of shooting, been "sore" from recoil, unless I've been shooting a shotgun ALL DAY and since I don't like shotguns, that rarely happens.

There's too many large calibers on here for it to be a plinking fun gun.It should be either a 9mm or .22lr because of price. Its so easy to go thru 100 rounds and .45acp bullets aint cheap!!Ha and nevermind .50 cal for the desert eagle you'll be broke in no time.

the .45 1911a was standard issue for 70 years, abut the glock, it can endure
nothing more than what any 1911a can endure, in fact you have a higher risk of
damaging the polymer frame than you do the steel one

Yap Para has high caps, got one but have never used that one, future race gun.

I like the idea thought unrealistc, you could drop in to nearly any country and hit the ground running, since 1911 is a very popular gun, finding parts would be very easy.
