What do you think is the best handgun in the world? Please post a picture (for instance from Google Images) so we know what you're talking about, and tell us precisely why in your opinion it is the best handgun in the world!

MODEL 1911

I'm no expert, but if it's still in widespread use among the military and among people who buy their own, and still is one of the most popular guns since 95 years, you likely got a winner. Here's to the M1911 in .45 ACP

 Pea shooters own.
Also it's fun to bring a pellet gun to a pistol fight, that way you can prove how many more skills you have by unloading 100s of pellets into your opponent, as you dodge real bullets.

Use the type that you have to pump, that way you can rub it in their face when you hit them "HAH I GOT YOU BITCH!".
Also to show that you are brave, and not scared of those bitches, bring a musket to a shootout and reload it with one hand while dodging everyone else's automatics.

If you have balls, fire balls.. home made balls.

If I throw it hard enough.
I like 19th century six shooters, myself. Like a classic Colt (Samuel Colt) revolver. I grew up in the American west... they were the guns I saw on display in museums, 'n stuff... when I was little.
Deringers are cool too.

I would not want to own one, but I'd like to shoot one at a range every once in a blue moon. With local laws its too much hassle and I'm very glad guns aren't readily available here. Still, i'm curious, and I know the Shroomery has a lot of people well-versed on the subject, which is still a bit of a taboo here.
It interests me, you generally can't peg down curiosity to a personality type.

Heh, sorry about that. I get carried away, It's fun though, no harm intended. You know I you...
Anyways, this one is cool.. I have to carry 500 ft extension cord into battle. I would go star wars style on your ass.

So if I hide, my enemy will always know where I am, they just follow the cord.
Just when they expect to get me, only the gun will lay behind the bushes.. and right as they see it, BANG staple gun to the back.

So out of all of the weaps, I think I'd go with the staple gun and use the rest as a decoy.

i dont know too much about guns, but i have gone shooting plenty of times. it's a great time, especially if you live on a lot of land and you can just set up a few targets behind the house. .45s are a lot of fun to shoot, but the bullets are expensive. my dad has a beretta .45 and that's always a good time. glock 9mms are fun, ammo is fairly cheap. and then you have .22 which basically have no recoil (depending on the weight of the barrel really). ammo is real cheap, you could fire it forever.
i dunno, i'd say start with a 9mm, can't go wrong with that. most people prefer glocks. they're very well rounded guns, and very reliable. they don't jam too often. beginners usually start with 9mms i think. if you really enjoy it then move up to a .45 from there.

When I buy myself a handgun, I'll be getting the 1911, I have to agree that there's a good reason for it's success.
But my second gun purchase will be something less practical but more impressive.
S&W Model 500, .50 caliber handgun. A man could kill a bear with one shot with one of these... plus it's a revolver, I love revolvers.
Surprisingly, it's supposed to have very low recoil considering it's large caliber. The review in Popular Mechanics was very impressive.

It's a heavy fucker, but from what I recall they also devoted a lot of engineering effort into designing the grip for recoil dampening. My memory is hazy though, that article was published a long time ago.

Besides hijacking an airplane, why would anyone want a carbon fiber pistol? It loox like a novelty item. Somehow I don't think carbon fiber has got what it takes to be a barrel of a gun which is fired for an extended period of time.

I'm sincerely interested in finding out which is the Shroomery's favorite handgun, and why. It also scratches a hippie taboo of firearm discussion on a psychedelic site. I think we as a community are mature enough to tackle minor societal barriers such as disarming the pro-psychedelic/pro-firearm polarisation.
Fear culture is heavily intertwined with the pro-firearm stance, but if you take the fear and the politics away then by the end of the day for most it's really just a "boys toy" like let's say a 1000CC motorcycle, which some like and others don't. The shroomery's mature enough to deal with that.

http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/sigs.html
Many more images there.

The SIG Sauer line of pistols, all of them ,are FANTASTIC. I feel that the P229 is the best because it's got interchangable barrels (.40S&W / .357SIG), high capacity mags and it's quite concealable. SIG is reliable, durable, tough and, in the opinion of even Glock/Colt fans, the most accurate OOTB handgun. I've outshot guys with custom Kimbers with my P229 (minor modifications to include Hogue rubber grips, as shown in the first two pictures, and a tungsten guide rod. I've also dropped some trijicon night sights on them). The P229 is a SA/DA pistol, meaning it operates in both single and double action. If the hammer is "down", you just pull the trigger (10.5lbs, very clean pull) and the hammer retracts and fires. After the shell is ejected and the slide racks, the hammer is left cocked so that your next trigger pull (4.5lbs, breaks like glass) is much shorter and quicker. No external safety, either. I don't need a safety on the gun, I've got one in between my ears If a Zombie invasion occured, I'd take my P229 and my M1A/M14.
The HK USP series is another high-quality firearm. Durable, rugged, well balanced, lots of fun to shoot. The ONLY reason that it's number two is that it has an external "safety". Also, it's not a SIG If I didn't shoot competitvely for SIG-Sauer, I'd be shooting for H&K or MAYBE for Glock, but I Doubt I'd shoot for Tupper-war.
The last pistol is my newest one, a SIG-Sauer 1911. The MOST accurate 1911 I've ever fired. Better than custom Kimbers/Colts that cost four times what this does. It's very, very, VERY accurate. I can EASILY shoot a .25" grouping out to 40 yards. I guess if I thought about it, that would make this a 1MOA pistol, in theory. This gun has had some custom work done to it, but not much.

Ouch! Do you think that that "blueing touch up" kit will fix it? The back of my SIG got scratched up during a near-altercation, right through the blueing into the actual frame. I was so fucking pissed off when that happened. But I just keep it lubricated so that no rust forms and, hey, it's a freaking GUN, it's supposed to get used and banged around some

I agree but that doesnt help when you want to sell it.I got a good deal on it and probably could have made my money back sans tax.

That really sucks. We have a manufacturing company here in town and they make all sorts of shit, I'm thinking about going down there and seeing if they can reblue it. Of course, SIG will do it, the whole thing, bead blasting included, for I THINK $40. Since they make the frames and the slides separately and treat them/blue them separately, then match them up, their are some minor differences in the blued appearance. If you get this service, they are done at the same time and the colors match up better. Not that I give a fuck, really
And since all my SIG work is done for free, since I work for them, I guess I should just get them to fix it. But it's my every-day carry firearm and I'd rather have it with me with a teensy scratch than sitting in New Hampshire being made to look factory new.

as for real guns... the five-seven is badass. really light, polymer frame, capable of penetrating medium armor vests at 300 yards.

and the mateba model 6 unica...awesome accuracy and preciscion, auto ejects ammunition, barrel in the bottom decreases recoil even more and allows for greater accuracy.

now as for guns from movies/games etc.... (btw, this site sucks for not shipping to the US, regardless of legality. I so want some of these. )

stoner - the .357SIG round is FANTASTIC. Just make sure you aren't out buying .357 magnum rounds to try to put through it. FTF

Ruger Mk II
Very quiet, fast, and deadly if used professionally.
