the .45 1911a was standard issue for 70 years, abut the glock, it can endure nothing more than what any 1911a can endure, in fact you have a higher risk of damaging the polymer frame than you do the steel one
As far as durability and toughness goes Glocks would endure alot more.Atleast from the elemnts and cleaning frequency. I dont know about crush tests or anything like that.

my 45 has been in the mud and still fired, you're buying into marketing propaganda theres a lot of cops that are switching from the glock to the .45 because it's a much better gun for durability (some of these 90+ year old guns are still being used) I've put more than 20k rounds through mine and the only think I've replaceced was the guide spring and a magazine, my friends glock has a cracked frame from +p loads, it's a paperweight now.

I chose the 1911, it's a very well rounded sidearm... which is why it's been so popular with the US army.
It is also among the guns owned and used by Indiana Jones, which is always an incentive to like it

Yes a glock will look nicer longer then the Colts, if your into that kinda thing. And yes it's easier to take care of,
'What I have to wipe down my gun after every use....naw man that is too difficult I need a gun that is even more idiot proof.'
The 1911 will remain the top gun, until we can get past, cartridges and using powers for propelling.

Yeah im no glock nazi either.I use to hate them actually but i think for anti-corosion a polymer frame would do better than a 1911 and glocks have the toughest polymer frames and also least parts to break. And the only glock i would own would be in 9mm or 10mm only because glock are the only ones making a reliable 10 at the moment. For .45 h&k and 1911

Well shit if were sharing,
Here a two of the 1911, Kimber with custom work and my beloved Springfield custom, two different guns with different purpose.
The subnose is my first choice for a "nightstand" gun I highly recommend that gun for that purpose.

the svi is sweet but you could buy the base model frame from anywhere and add the bolt on accessories yourself and do a little polishing on a few parts and have the same gun for at least $500 less

I would have a different set up, but there is no CCW law here,
So both are for competition, though I have not shot in awhile.

we have CCW ( I let it expire) and for shooting, I just step out on the porch, it doesnt get any more convienent
I think what I really prefer about the 1911 is that the whole thing can be stripped to nothing in about 3 minutes
