Military Handgun Poll

WHICH PISTOL WOULD YOU BUY FOR RECREATIONAL SHOOTING?
Please note, in this poll there's no such thing as "home defense" or other such considerations. You'll be solely shooting for fun, let's say pumpkins, cokebottles, cinderblocks and other such stuff. The only things that matter here are: which one would you be most comfortable with as to use, kick and looks, as well as being able to outclass your friends as to accuracy, fire rate, and other criteria. Each of these can turn you inside out so no gory details, its just for an afternoon's fun-shooting in the backyard.
Here's a poll for the military handgun-fans among us!

.40 Cal GLOCK 22

.45 ACP MODEL 1911

.50 Cal DESERT EAGLE

I picked the Desert Eagle because I have never shot one and it is so big and badass.

I picked the .45 because it's the best overall gun of the three.

Well the Desert Eagle is *very* big isn't it? I wouldn't be surprised that it would give such hard recoils that you'd get fatigue in your arm/wrist soon, and that you can keep score for your friends the rest of the afternoon with a Cold Pack wrapped around your wrist
I chose the Glock 22 but I found it very hard to choose between the Glock and the Model 1911.
I'm Dutch national and not inclined to go through the endless hassles of getting a shooters permit so I'll probably never shoot a gun. I'd love to spend a week on a military range though, going through many kinds, just to get a feel for it. I wouldn't want to own a handgun, because I feel ACP and LSD don't mix.

Well, that could be argued.
That model of .45 was the main sidearm of American military forces in World War II. It's definately a solid and tough gun. It's pretty no nonsense.
The Desert Eagle .50 is like a bloated novelty gun. It's almost too damn big to be practical. If you got hit with a .50 caliber round there would be nothing left of your body where it hit though.
Glocks are very technologically advanced. You can throw them in the mud, submerge them in water, throw them off of a building, etc.. and they will still fire accurately.
If I was a law enforcement officer I would want the Glock. If I was a soldier in a combat zone I would want the .45 first and the Glock second (.40 caliber isn't very big for combat operations). If I was out target shooting I would want the Desert Eagle.

that's all true, but assuming the person shooting the gun is a beginner I'd pick the .45. Glocks are not notoriously user friendly, and a DE could break your wrist if you don't hold it right, but a .45 is preety much point and shoot.

Definately. The thing is a cannon.

I can drive down to the gun store and get a handgun in five minutes. God Bless America.

It should be arranged so that I can do that too, but other people could not It would scare me if anyone could get a gun as easy as that. Under those conditions, in a not too good neighborhood, I would seriously consider to do buy a gun. For defense purposes I think I'd pick something more compact like the GLOCK 19.
But I live in a good neighborhood with not too much violence, so lucky me
But realistically, how many shots could an average guy fire of these these pistols before the wrist etc would become painful/fatigued? To what can you compare the recoil of a major caliber handgun?

I have never shot a handgun in order to find out how much I could shoot before my wrist hurt. So, I am just guessing here.
I surmise that you could shoot that .40 caliber Glock all day and have no wrist pain problems. The .45 would start to bug you after about 30 minutes probably. The Desert Eagle would probably make your hand feel like it was going to fall off after one clip.

I always found Glocks to be too bulky and heavy for comfortable concealed carrying. Even the sub compacts are still too clunky in my opinion. However, they make great sidearms, home defense guns, and target shooting guns.

Id go for a 9mm glock but since thats not listed as an option Id have to say the .45. The colt is also the one you will most likely be able to find the cheapest.

Are they stainless/rustproof too or carbon steel?

Yeah, 9mm ammo is fairly cheap. That's why it's a good target shooting caliber. It is also the caliber that 99% of cops carry.

I'm not sure. Maybe you should try Wikipedia to find out.

If I remember right, most everything in a Glock (excluding the barrel, slide, and the firing pin) is made of a comnposite hard plastic.
