We all have one I guess. I'm not sure they all are attainable but that is not really the point. It's that one heads off in a direction, makes an attempt, has a vision for movement. It doesn't matter to me what yours is unless it interferes with mine. There are so many ways to go in life. When I think about the effort, or the possibility that I'm chasing illusionary goals comes up, my response is that one has to do something with ones time here and as death awaits and in the end it really doesn't matter what that something is except as a personal thing.

Here, in a quote from The Active Side of Infinity, by Carlos Castaneda is a benchmark that I have set for myself. It is the way I would like to be and any attempt or step I make in the direction of that goal is worth my effort. I believe it is a beautiful ideal to strive after and perfectly stated.

Nothing could have been more true than this in reference to don Juan Matus. His emptiness reflected infinity. There was no boisterousness on his part, or assertions about the self. There was not a speck of a need to have either grievances or remorse. His was the emptiness of a warrior-traveler, seasoned to the point where he doesn't take anything for granted. A warrior-traveler who doesn't underestimate or over estimate anything. A quiet, disciplined fighter whose elegance is so extreme that no one, no matter how hard they try to look, will ever find the seam where all that complexity has come together.

For me this is the highest state a human can aspire to.
