When a newb shows up (rarely) introduces themselves,  acts like a guest for at least a day or two, shows respect to the flavor of the forum, reads the forum guidelines, and generally shows some humility most of us bend over backwards to help them out and give them time to acclimate.  In the "good old days"  this type of newb courtesy  was the norm. Now it's about as rare as hens teeth.  Anyway that's how I approach the situation.


That's understandable. And there's probably a dash too much whiney-bitch-noob in my post, but I think at least some of it's valid. I made a, kinda, dick first(?) post and was told so (fair enough). But otherwise I don't want to behave like the former you describe, but in that case harshness is deserved. I don't know if it's an age thing, but I feel there's a fair amount of arrogance and hollow confidence around my age group. If those type rolled through all the time, I can see why you might want to burn them. Then again, whether that helps them learn/grow, I don't know.

And how was this negative side effect discovered?

Medicine is not computer science where everything can be studied as the variables are too great. However things like polio and tuberculosis and other diseases are rare in Western Society.

Ever had VD? I have. I could have died like Al Capone or I could get some penicillin and have it cured within a few weeks.

:o Well, I guess they gave it that name and discovered under their own terms which they accept. However, religious/spiritual folk have been talking about it and applying it for thousands of years. Haven't they?

And as far as placebo being basically worthless, I guess I'll have to go looking for a scientific study that says otherwise, if it exists. That certainly wasn't my impression of the placebo.

Ever try placebo glasses? Bet ya no matter how much you believe it's working, you won't really be able to read the eye chart.

How about placebo oxygen? Try that and see how long you can go.

They aren't realistic applications of the placebo, as I understand it to work. The placebo is an effect in your body as a result of a thought you carry in your mind, right? Is that not an exploitable phenomenon?
