global warming bullshit.
    #6657581 -

So, It is now "established science" that we are causing global warming. I won't bother trying to dispute that because it's irrelevent.

It's been bothering me alot that politicians are pushing for fuel efficiency standards and co2 emission regulations. The bullshit speach about preserving our planet for generations to come is a load of crap.

If we are releasing carbon into the atmosphere at like 100,000 times the rate that the earth can deal with, so why is reducing that output by 10 or 20 percent going to save anything.

It's like trying to avoid lung cancer by smoking only 15 cigarets a day instead of 20, your still gonna die, and not much slower.

And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk ...four times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and its not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

If we instill values into the next generation, it will create a snowball effect which will eventually make an impact on generations to come.  We still have plenty of time to fix it, but we definitely need to get started.  Start with cars, then use it as a stepping stone.  There are other ways to do almost everything we are already doing without expending our planets resources.

Who's to say it will even matter, one major volcanic eruption will polute the air more than humans can in decades of time. So In reality, it is out of our hands, but we shouldn't make a bad thing worse.

Oh,And just wait till the new Supra comes out, you won't be so upset about having to drive hyper efficient cars:thumbup:

True, 20 percent won't do it, but politicians are not going to risk their careers by fucking with big energy. We could do something about it, but we won't. If the theories are correct, we should trigger a cooling spell in the future. We can not fight our addictions...

I say we destroy all civilization and start all over, living like the native Ohlones did, but with some technology. I think in order to fix this fucking planet, physically and socially, we need a major social revolution, replacing old morals and values with new ones. Read "Brave New World", and you'll at least get a glimpse of what this world is coming to.

Are you disputing the reality of global warming, or the question of whether or not it is personally relevant whether or not you die now vs dying later? I'm just wondering because if it's the latter, that question more belongs in the philosophy forum.

Also, just in case you are wondering about the reality of global warming, I clearly show that the vast majority of scientists affirm the reality of it here.

The factories should be the first place reformed and if its doing anything criminal, those who make the top decisions in them should be held the most accountable. Responsibility should increase as one goes further up the hierarchy, not the other way around.

I have no children, nor do I plan to have any; therefore, I feel no obligation to leave the planet a better place than I found it.

(I use much less energy than the average person, at least in the US, but that has more to do with where I live than anything.)

> I say we destroy all civilization and start all over

If the global warming crowd are correct (debatable), then this is exactly what is happening.  The Flying Spaghetti Monster will continue life even if humans are no longer part of the equation.  Deities can be so fickle sometimes...

You guys are forgetting the other half of the equation. we have big business, big government, pollution, etc because we choose to have it. we created this.

There are hundreds if not thousands of people world wide who on their own initiative became billionares. are you telling me that bill gates is some mastermind of slavery?

Futhermore we elect our government officials. anyone can run for office it just so happens thst people respresenting big business back government officials with donations so they get elected and as a thankyou a representative from that industry is placed into an appointed position within a government agency.

What i mean by all that is this simply: through the use of election donation money big business has been able to corrupt our elected officials stance on major issues.

Case in point this president has allowed dick cheney and the senate and house big business to get massive tax breaks and all the while not crack down on environmental standards.

Now that's just irresponsible. Especially since we do have electric cars that can be put on the market and public transportation can still utilize increased funding. I hope you're not going to suggest that increasing the funds allocated to public transport would be part of some leftist conspiracy.

Just to inform the ignorant, the electricity for these cars comes mostly from coal fired electric plants. Who knew? And "increasing the funds allocated to public transport" is most definitely a leftist plot. They should be self supporting from the fees paid for their usage. Otherwise it's just welfare. Get in line.

still burning off fossil fuels in a power plant vs a car engine, which is the more efficient? as well as taking care of the byproducts that result from the process.

A reasonable question that I don't pretend to have the exact answer to, I merely wanted to point out to some of the more oblivious that it aint without it's own dirt. Also, it involves two steps of energy transfer, fossil burn to electricity to motion (for the fatuous: chemical to electric to kinetic) whereas regular cars only involve one, fossil burn to motion. There has to be an extra level of loss. Whatever. And what do you do with the dead batteries? Look, I'm not against a better way, I just don't believe that we have one yet. Not even close.

> still burning off fossil fuels in a power plant vs a car engine

The more times you convert energy from one for to another, the less overall efficient the system becomes. Burning fossil fuel resulting in motion of a car is going to be more efficient than all of the steps required to convert fossil fuel to electricity, then converting electricity back into motion. However... with nuclear energy, the fossil fuel part is removed... However, nuclear energy pollutes as well, and the nuclear pollution hangs out for hundreds of thousands of years.
