"Nutrition" is not something real that foods can "contain". Energy on the other hand is real and foods (esp. sugar) can and do contain energy. Your body needs energy to function and therefore sugar can and does serve a function for your body. Whether this sugar is refined sucrose or some other dietary carbohydrate is basically irrelevant. The truth is, if you never had any more dietary sugar in your life, you would die. Period.

way to generalize. a carbohydrate that turns into sugar during digestion, is not the same as refined sugar. If you were to cut all sources of energy out of your diet, then yes you would probably notice a big change. That's actually for the most part what atkins is, and thats why its so horrible for you.

this thread hasn't made any sense since the beginning.

"a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies. "
Oh, lemme guess, 12 steps is "spiritual", not religious? BS, God is a requirement of AA and NA, read the big book. Also, find out how many times you see the word god in the big book, the 12 steps, and the 12 traditions. Goto an AA meeting and see how many times they reference god or higher power in the meetings. Also
"ny system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific."
LOL, they even have a definition especially for AA.

I have read parts of the Big Book, and I have been to many meetings. I have known Atheists who work the program, and have heard stories of higher power being things as kooky as "a shot glass" or someones' grandmother. I don't see why people have to interpret a higher power in such limited ways. Again, 12 step programs have no religious ceremonies. Do I have to define a religious ceremony?

"Claiming to have sole insight" was never claimed in the Big Book. I can go find some exact quotes to dispute this if you want, but from memory I can tell you that even the Big Book doesn't claim to be the only way to sobriety, it does claim to actually work, though. There is a difference. I think this quote might be referring more to "faith healers" and the cults that can emerge around them.

Honestly though, I'm not trying to defend AA as much as I am annoyed at how the word "cult" is molested. Frankly, 12 step programs are not good enough to be cults.  :piss:  :dogpile: (my stoned attempt to illustrate a cult.)

People in 12 step programs always claim that you can only get clean with a high power, and if you don't do it the AA way, you will relapse or live a miserable life. My brother goes to AA/NA all the time and it turned him into an ubber faggot. Also, the definition of cult isn't that simple.

I'm curious as to how the fuck you compared sugar with religion?

Yeah, makes no sense whatsoever.
