Whats to love about Americans?
    #6096221 -

(This post is inspired by Hue, from something he said in Annas "Why to they hate us post".)

Give it some thought and post some things you think are worth other nations loving about Americans.

There is no right or wrong reply, just what you think you would love about us, (based on your personal experience of knowing us first hand), if you lived in another country.

I'll add some of my own later, I have to go cook dinner now.

If you have reasons for hating americans or why some would, please post them in Annas post.

:peace:

I do love my country and I think it is a beautiful place with the greatest cultural diversity on the planet. Our culture has positive aspects. We accept other cultures and can integrate them into our culture. We can adopt and borrow from other cultures seamlessly. There is little prejudice here comparatively. Look at how in other countries people will engage in genocide against their own neightbors. The Israeli and the Palestinian conflict are one example. Arab nations discriminate against Jews as a matter of law and the reverse. Iran called for Israel to be wiped from the map and called the holocaust a hoax. You don't see mass graves as an accepted part of the landscape here. We do manage to get along and often show compassion for our neighbors. We have a lot of room for improvement here, and regardless of how the current administration abuses it's power, we have unparallelled freedom when compared to most other nations. I consider myself to be lucky to have been born here.

I do not love Americans.

I love people whenever possible.

I agree with Hue, SmokerForPeace, and Icelander.  No such thing as an American; "Americans" are just beautiful spirits trapped in bodies in this arbitrary hunk of land.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

True, were we to look at people instead of symbols many problems would slip away.

But it's really kind of all squished up and slimy isn't it.

It's a global village now and this is our part of it. It's not going to be much different anywhere else IMO.

Nice replies everyone. Nice about the humans are humans no matter where they live outlook. And thats true. We either do our best to love our humanity in general or we don't.

Americans are not a race of people though. We are a great melting pot of diversity in the world and like Hue said, i think the majority of americans appreciate that.

That said, maybe the question should be, what has come of this diverse mix that the whole world has been able to benefit from?

I think many peoples around the world appreciate THE MUSIC that has come from out of the mix here. (Some hate us for it:shifteyes:) I know I appreciate much of the Musical diversity coming from U.S. artists.

I think many peoples around the world appreciate our advancement is health care. (not aware of any nation that faults us for that)

I know I appreciate it.

I think many peoples around the world appreciate the technology that has come from out of the U.S. (some may find fault with some of it)

I appreciate most of it.

Oh and our comediennes. That's something I think many other peoples of the globe appreciate and enjoy. I know I do.

There are a lot of charitable people here that give to the broader world in many ways. I think many peoples of the world appreciate the generous spirits that come from here.

There must be more I can't think of right now.

I just thought this thread was timely since the U.S. and its people have been taking a beating in the press lately. There is so much focus lately on the bad coming from out of this country and little to none of the good coming from out of it. ~sigh~

Thanks Hue for the inspiration. It feels better to look for things to appreciate the American people then  it does reasons for why others would depreciate it. :sun:

At the risk of being redundant....your resentment is intense. Let it go. A negative mindset is reflected in the reality you create. Why pollute your mind?

In reality a Big Mac is pretty much as advertised...as you have not been to McDonald's in 15 years, you may be unaware. Like America it is not perfect, but there is a lot worse.

Change the self and reality will change. We cannot really fix America, but we can fix ourselves. A quote by Wayne Dyer that I read is in order here:

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." --Wayne Dyer

and

"I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." --Mother Teresa

You are likely right except the part about Big Mac being as advertised. If you can show me a Big Mac that looks like the one in that picture I will eat it.

Less than eating Bobcat. I can put away a lot of junk food. It's a slow death so you don't notice it.

Unfortunately so can I. Big Mac's aren't quite my style...I am a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese man. Lately I been eating healthy stuff...lots of veggies and low fat meat. I feel good, but I miss the junk.

Isn't it odd that they can take a photograph that makes this thing look like a deity?

Junk is good in moderation. My martial arts instructor use to say that he allowed himself something junky once a day (and he bought the best junk he could afford). He said it kept his happy cells alive and he was able to stick with all his other healthy habits.

Despite some attempts to undermine it, America still has the most liberal standard of free speech. I know several Europeans think that "hate speech" and the like should be outlawed, but I'm glad that, at least in this respect, Americans respect freedom.
