I think you're old enough to understand the difference between mythic thinking and scientific thinking, between mythology and cosmology, between apples and oranges (in Truth, apples and oranges are both fruit). Mythology arrives at Truth through the question 'why?,' science arrives through 'how?' Mythology posits "In the beginning...," qualitatively, science posits 'the Big Bang' and quantifies the assertion at 10 to the minus 43rd second ago. Intuitive function vs. Thinking function. Truth is singular.

Personally i found the book to be very credible, no way do i think Martin was making any of this up, just the dialogue between him and the priest in the garden weeks before the priest passed away is enough proof for me as to the veracity of the author's reporting. Plus, i have been the victim of demonic assaults during the night in the past and only someone who has never had that horrible experience would refer to it as "night terrors" or w/e the "rational" explanation is called....sleep paralysis i think. Anyway as hokey as this is going to sound: I haven't had one single attack since i started wearing a crucifix to bed at night and have a Holy Bible beside my bed

OK, my first question about this author would be, did he write and speak out on these issues before he left the church or after. This is critical in my evaluation.

I see this church as corrupt from top to bottom. The fact that he rose high in this organization does not bode well again for his credibility. Now these are questions and not statements of fact as I havn't read this book. I lived within two blocks of a catholic church and my girlfriends mom used to smuggle booze into the nuns and priests. I'm sure anyone high up would have to be aware of things like priests buggering alter boys ect. If he waited until he left to "speak out", then other factors besides truth could well be the motivating factor.

I spent some years in my youth in the baptist fundamentalist church. Lots of talk of demons and exorcism. I saw on tape an exorcism. These demons were cast out in the name of God and Jesus, (powerful figures). The poor man was obviously in distress. The exorcism was "successful" and we got to see him praising God and being an active member of the church. Much later I found out he was exorcised 11 more times and the "demons" keep re-entering him. Of course God and Jesus weren't so powerful after all. My view of this now is that he really needed a therapist badly. The exorcism was no cure for the emotional problems which were not being addressed. He was acting out the demon possession to fit the framework of his Church's beliefs. Poor man. My opinion on this is that sex is at the root of most of the "demonic" activity in the religious arena. More to the point the repression of sex energy. Very powerful life energy and cannot be repressed with out it coming out in distorted forms.

As to your use of the cross and bible to keep the "demons" away. It's a temporary fix IMO, akin to the placebo effect. After my repressive sex denying guilt ridden Christian upbringing I was terrified of the dark for many years. With the help of therapy and psychedelics, that has, it seems, disappeared, to be replaced by a peace full feeling in the darkness. Especially when peaking on psychedelics.

Of course this all is just a guess on my part.  :mushroom2:

The Pentagram

[Dedicated to George Raffalovich]

In the Years of the Primal Course, in the dawn of terrestrial birth,
Man mastered the mammoth and horse, and Man was the Lord of the Earth.

He made him an hollow skin from the heart of an holy tree,
He compassed the earth therein, and Man was the Lord of the Sea.

He controlled the vigour of steam, he harnessed the lightning for hire;
He drove the celestial team, and man was the Lord of the Fire.

Deep-mouthed from their thrones deep-seated, the choirs of the aeons declare
The last of the demons defeated, for Man is the Lord of the Air.

Arise, O Man, in thy strength! the kingdom is thine to inherit,
Till the high gods witness at length that Man is the Lord of his spirit.

I think, translated:
'The presence of evil' is equal to 'the absence of the creator', is a good picture.
The creation without the creator...
(even if there's, of course, still something of the creator left in that creation )

...and as more far we go away from the creator, the creation itself regards as creator.

All this is omnipresent.

Thank You! i was hoping for some one to say this.

what we (I) discuss here is mostly a bunch of sci-fi dreamy horseshit, or pure nihilism (in case of philosohpical matters)

What a sad sack. Jesus, take a compliment. If you feel discussing this stuff is horseshit then you are wasting your time. Go do something else, in that case, that isn't a waste of time.

On the other hand, and i mean no disrespect, perhaps it was Markos that didn't discern the facetious nature of the person to whom he directed his original compliment's intent?

Well if you put it like that, everything a man does in life is wasting time, so I waste my time the way I enjoy it
