Swami Beats 45+ National Champion

Joe Hassey of Las Vegas wins 45+ National Racquetball Championship in Canoga Park for the third year.

Due to prior commitments I could not go, but played Joe in a "fun" game and beat him 15-6.

Not the right forum? If focus, discipline, training and Zen mindset are meaningless, then mods please move this.

BTW, am planning a BIG Swami 50th birthday bash in Vegas in late June. No S&P, just pure drunken, stoned debauchery and orgyism. All 21+ S&Pers are invited! Details to follow.

to me the banana nut loaf will remain an unsolved mystery or our own time, so any thread that references it is at least more relevant to S&P than one deliberating 2012 and the unrolled mexican calendar.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

The Zen is in the clearing of the mind in focusing one's self. The discipline discussed here is probably beyond your understanding right now so don't sweat it.

I covered this all in another thread.

The keys to winning:

1. Practice

2. Practice

3. Practice

4. Relax your mind and your muscles (even while putting out maximal effort). In other words, carry no more tension than you need to accomplish your goal; too little and you are being lazy; too much and you will tire easily and mishit your shots.

5. Visualize

6. Toss out unnecessary thoughts and distractions

7. Have faith in your abilities

8. Play one point at a time. Forget winning & losing and the score and the crowd and your opponent's attempts to intimidate or throw you off balance.

If you do all that, then you have played to the best of your ability no matter the outcome. I have lost matches where I felt good afterwards and won where I felt shitty because I made glaring errors.

Bottom line: the opponent and the game is just a measuring stick to see how much you have learned. In reality, you are truly only playing against yourself.

The same basics apply to most any competitive arena even outside of sports.
