Precaution is not paranoia, it's also not stupid, and it is a knock on effect of awareness.

The buddha would do what he'd do - just without worry, fear, anxiety etc. (I would imagine). Right action depending on circumstance. The circumstance of locking up a bike could be extremely variable depending on the perameters.

A teacher once tole=d me this story: A meditator joins a camp run by a great master. The meditator is given his own hut, the hut is in his charge. He sits and sits finding tranquility within the sitting. However the roof begins to leak, so the meditator sits on the other side of the hut. A big hole forms in the roof and the hut gets rather mucky and begins falling apart. The meditator sits. One day the master turns up at his hut, "You are missing the point" he says, "This path is not an excuse to neglect your responsibilities, that is failure"

If somebody stole Buddha's bike, somebody else would kick his ass and graciously return the bike to its owner.

Hero: "Here you go, Buddha - that prick stole your BIKE!"

Buddha: "Thanks man but hey next time don't worry about it.. no need to hurt anybody."

Hero: "Fuck you, Buddha!"

Buddha: "As you wish.."

Buddha talked about these things to the working class people. He had very practical advice for them.  In Buddhism, you give great respect and honor to your things, take care of them, and treat them well.  Thich Nhat Hanh advises us to treat our dishes as a baby Buddha while washing them.

Treating your things this way will bring awareness to your life, and you will want less things, and live a more simple life.
