Sad-Shit-Anotha! What spiritual beliefs you have a hard time relating to? * 1
    #29644237 -

I take issue with the new-age takes on Manifestation.

Failure to Manifest might not mean you “didn’t believe hard enough.” Maybe the Universe simply doesn’t want that Benz for you. Maybe it has a Volvo in mind.

We’re not alone.

We can’t all be trillionaires. There is a balance to all things, and we exist within it. Make the most of what you have, by all means—but don’t kick yourself because the gold coins aren’t falling from the ceiling of your living room.

And this becomes particularly uncomfortable when Manifestation is applied to poverty and inequality.

Millions of Africans pray, work, sacrifice and hope for a better tomorrow, yet the economic cards are heavily stacked against them. Vast amounts of value—oil, minerals, ores and other resources—leave the continent, while far less value flows back in.

To look at that reality and subtly suggest that people remain poor because they failed to Manifest hard enough is not empowerment. It is snide blame dressed up as spirituality.

Sometimes the problem isn't your mindset.

Sometimes the playing field is tilted.

I am more a believer in practice, working hard and working smart - showing up to work 10 minutes early, and leaving 5 to 10 minutes late. I see recreational substance use, intoxicants as self-handicapping.  I see recreational sex or sex for the sheer pleasure of doing it as a kind of narcotic that also impairs the ability to think and work clearly.  I'm an anti-romantic, classical thinker.

The "believe in what you want" and make it manifest is just one of the many snares and traps that fool people.

I believe in the destructive effects of fire and water and nature.

Poverty and slavery should be no mystery, it's the default condition.

What requires some explanation or clarification is how people acquire wealth. It starts with a good work ethic and an abstinence from recreational intoxicants.

Islam because of media and some radicals, and it's too bad. There is much beauty in the good of the religion. Could say the same of course about any Abrahamic religion. The division is lucrative.

Also I kind of feel naggy about emptiness sometimes, though it is a direct superior teaching for mind. But I want to argue, emptiness is not empty; of course it's full.

genuine emptiness has no distance and no time. Its so nothing that its literally not there.

Outside our universe is not a millimeter of Nothing. no endless void no, not one millimeter of nothing.

I think there's hobbits in there, and leaf. This is what I picture if the naturalists are right, and all this ends with the physical body. That in the nothing, there will be hobbits.

But as it's spoken, the nothing becomes something. Genuine emptiness could never be referred. Now it's in my head, something of emptiness.

I was kind of being silly. It's a half-argument from a related matter I don't recall.

I think it's from the no-practice argument, so maybe it fits. To speak of no-practice is to fail it for it gives a practice.

I try to understand the Mayan/Aztec practice of blood sacrifice, and I really struggle to understand the whole mentality that it would take to butcher innocent humans and exalt in this.

Even animal sacrifice is difficult for me to grok. I mean, I can sense the power involved, the ending of a life does feel like a momentous event, but I identify too closely with the pain and suffering of the being, the look in their eyes when they are afraid, I don’t like it

Just wondering how it could make sense, and that would be because the animal is something valuable I guess. In fire ceremony and with prasad are offered foodstuffs, like to a fire would be offered rice and various grains, ... Sometimes they represent aspects, like offering black sesame iirc represented certain kinds of negative thoughts or other misdeeds.

I'd like to know what the thought is around karma slaying a sentient being for sacrifice. I imagine it's because of the sacred source of the ritual, and to whom it is sacrificed, the karma is totaled positive.

I've wondered why would it be necessary when we have effective means without animal sacrifice. Again it may be more focused on karma, like it's considered effective for a particular.

It doesn't fit very well with 'that being may have been your mother in a past life.' So it kind of speaks of selling your mother, or your soul, for some wealth.

Symbolically the sacrifice is good, but it's our own mind and body that is sacrificed as in tapas, spiritual fire.

There's another angle too that souls take birth, perhaps as an animal to serve a particular being or story, lila. So it may be applied to animals that are sacrificed, that they do so gladly and it's part of their advancement or devotion.

In the esoteric evolution, the animal eventually, as a human, acquires manas and buddhi, with these aspects of mind finally able to reestablish a conscious connection.

Could see how animal sacrifice might play along such themes.

Exactly!

And of course, ACIM repeats frequently that no sacrifice is demanded.

Quote:
Sacrifice is a notion totally unknown to God. ²It arises solely from fear, and frightened people can be vicious. ³Sacrificing in any way is a violation of my injunction that you should be merciful even as your Father in Heaven is merciful. ⁴It has been hard for many Christians to realize that this applies to themselves. ⁵Good teachers never terrorize their students. ⁶To terrorize is to attack, and this results in rejection of what the teacher offers. ⁷The result is learning failure.

Quote:
⁴The gifts you offer to the ego are always experienced as sacrifices, but the gifts you offer to the Kingdom are gifts to you.

Quote:
⁸Your confusion of sacrifice and love is so profound that you cannot conceive of love without sacrifice.

Quote:
What would they see instead? ²The shining radiance of the Son of God, so like his Father that the memory of Him springs instantly to mind. ³And with this memory, the Son remembers his own creations, as like to him as he is to his Father. ⁴And all the world he made, and all his specialness, and all the sins he held in its defense against himself, will vanish as his mind accepts the truth about himself, as it returns to take their place. ⁵This is the only “cost” of truth: You will no longer see what never was, nor hear what makes no sound. ⁶Is it a sacrifice to give up nothing, and to receive the Love of God forever?

Not jealous in the least. Old wines, blended distastefully in a lead vessel. It tastes sweet now, but at what price?

I don’t recognize Jesus in it.

The core message is forgiveness, love for your brother, and eternal safety in one's creator... not Jesus-like?

All good, but ACIM is attributed to Jesus.

Its teachings diverge from Jesus’. teachings, blending them with nonduality.

The Bible often points to oneness which may be the better term here, and oneness by definition is nondual.

There is very little divergence imo. There are improvements, corrections on violence and guilt in certain parts of the Bible.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

Quote:
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Sounds very non-dual to me
