I really need some help with my grows. Something is going on that's killing my shit before a 2nd flush.

It happens with multiple cube varieties, Ochras, and pans.

I put a bunch of old pictures along with a detailed description of the problem.

I'm working on an Ochra grow that I plan to document heavily so maybe people will see something glaring that I'm missing. It's just a T1 as of now, I'll post pics this weekend.

I'm also willing to try any instruction or genetics given.

Pseudomonads...

Convincing fungi to give up ones they prefer would be like convincing someone to give up their cat or dog. Many are endosymbionts, dwelling in the cytoplasm of fungal hosts. Some are parasitic or pathogenic for some fungi. Pretty much all of them carry a cornucopia of patterns for antibiotic, antifungal, insecticidal, antihelminthic, and antiviral metabolites they can produce extracellularly. Don't get me started on enzyme catalyst, acids, alcohols, and other environmentally conditioning metabolites.   

Some of them, although potentially beneficial in nature, can hamper expected production and or growth in vitro and in cultivation. The grower has a bottom line that is out of line with the bottom line of the co-culture, which is eventual reunion with the earth and nature. Fungi will pair with them and carry them for future use and distribution both willingly and otherwise. They are important long term probiotics for the environments the fungi distribute them. They unlock iron and phosphorus, as well as fix nitrogen. They can also persist in the environment long term without fungal hosts.

There are ways of isolating the fungi from the bacteria. If the fungi like them it is a lot harder than if they find them annoying or detrimental but is still possible.

There is no cabin or trench that will handle it though. If there is a population of them in your environment that prefer fungi or that fungi prefer, then it will be very hard to keep them from each other. Pseudomonads can often change physiology and metabolism within minutes/instant to completely different modalities. Pseudomonas fluorescens for example is found in nearly every terrestrial and marine environment from soil to tree bark, along with fungi, in poo, roots, thermal vents underwater, highly radioactive places, toxic waste dumps, and deep within bedrock untouched. A thin film of cling, sfd, or little piece of polystyrene is no match.

There is actually a lot of emerging information on the subject. A morsel follows.

cytoplasm of the fungus Rhizopus microsporus." ~BenchChem paper regarding Rhizoxin 4/2026



Pseudomonads are very diverse and cosmopolitan. Everybody deals with them to some degree.

How do I tell if they're causing me problems short of a microscope?

A concern of mine is that I'm chasing elephants in a jungle. I see foot prints, hear grumbles, see tree rubs, but keep missing this huge organism right in front of my face.

Another concern is that I'm looking for elephants when I should be looking at the environment.

If I had some kind of impossible to beat enemy, but I knew what it looked like when it was or wasn't present, I would be so happy.

Right now I'm just swinging wildly in the dark totally lost.

Does anyone know the upper limit of temperature that mycelium would survive for a short or a long period of time?

I know hot pours work with desiccated cultures so mycelium can handle a short period around 135 to 140 Fahrenheit.

Is it just pasteurization temps/times like most organisms?

Bees will kill Hornet Scouts by overheating them and by a trick of evolution bees just happen to die a couple degrees warmer than the much bigger Scout.

It doesn't have to be a huge difference.

I asked googles AI this question and got an extremely detailed answer concerning all types of 135-15+f temperature exposure to cube myc, you might wanna go that route.

"will psilocybe cubensis culture survive at temps of 135-150f if exposed to those temps only for a few seconds?"

it explained what happens on petri dishes, what happens on grain, on LC's and everything inbetween

I can tell you that 120f(49c) for a few hours is too hot. At least I can confirm that I have lost several dried myceliated grains, wedge baggies and spores in the mail box in our desert summer. Also, I did some testing on wedges and killed most of them by exposing them to up to 110f(43c) for a couple of hours a day leaving the baggies outside in summer here for a few days.

So they can take some heat for a little while, but time works against you.

@nichrome: After re-reading your post I'm unsure if you are actually diagnosing psuedomonads, or are just talking about them in general?

Was there something specific in my journal that made you think of psuedomonads?





With some help from others I'm realizing that there are a lot of areas where my techniques can be improved. Unless we're dealing with a concrete diagnosis, I'm inclined towards putting effort tightening up my process before just blaming an unbeatable bacteria. If it all proves for nought, then I can start fighting ghosts.

If I'm totally off base here or in need of a reckoning please let me know.

So how does one move on after being diagnosed with mushroom AIDS? Is there a support group?

What would a commercial grower do if they ended up in this situation? I'm guessing whatever they come up with would be the nuclear option.

I'm going to have a million questions I need to process this for a minute

What do you guys make of these spikey outdoor fruits? Looks like the fuzzy feet got spiked up with hairspray. Wildly hot temperatures, inconsistent watering, and probably poor fae before I put more holes in the tent have all afflicted these guys in the past week.
It doesn't materially matter what's causing this and I have no intentions of doing anything about it, I'm just curious. Thanks yall.

I apologize in advance if some of these come across as stupid or seem to question what you have said. I'm just trying to get a handle on this.

First off, is this the picture you meant when you said Ropey?



If so, that jar was 100% bacterial but in the more traditional sense IIRC. This was before I started getting pickier about cultures and before I learned the traditional methods for removing bacteria from the culture.

I haven't had a jar look like that in a while.

If you don't mean the spikey thing as 'ropeyness' please let me know. I want to make sure I'm getting the terms right.

The condensation changed about 6-8 months ago. Before that condensation in my jars always meant mold was present.

It seemed to change when I started using my JCM. I originally attributed the condensation to temperature swings caused by that. There have been periods where my JCM was off for a while and the condensation didn't go away, so I probably should’ve been tipped off from that.



So Psuedomonads are bacteria that can ride through a Trench or CS.

They likely exist in every culture of mine, and any spore print I made from an infected tub. I'm guessing that means that I should never share cultures with anyone or I risk giving this to them.

Any tools I have that can't be heat sterilized are likely infected too. This includes tubs, my tile float, and all my supplies.

Filters and even aged HG cups are useless since this bacteria is small enough to slip through.

I'm guessing that also means that it's small enough to be air borne, so it's likely on every surface in my grow area as well.

First step would be to clean everything that can be cleaned. I normally only use soap and water or like Mr Clean for surfaces. Do I need something stronger?


I'm guessing if cleaning up cultures was as easy as antibacterial agar, someone would just give me an Amazon link and say "just buy this bro".

Why doesn't antibacterial agar work?


I know faht is working on transferring aerial mycelium to escape this. Is that worth the effort, or would cleaning everything and discarding everything else (including cultures) then starting over be better?
