Yeah man straight into fruiting but it doesn't help with the overlay imo. Some people just let the pins push through that thick overlay and I used to do the same but now I scrape the overlay off with a sterilized fork like kloakk always recommend and it works much better. The overlay seems to choke the rest of the sub quite badly IME.

And no they're different species closely related to cubes, in fact Ochras are cube's closest relatives. The confusion comes from mislabeling where ochras used to be called natal super strength (NSS) but those are actually Ochras and not "true nats".

So yeah Psilocybe Cubensis/ Psilocybe Natalensis/ Psilocybe Cubensis are closely related but they're all different species but can be grown with the same/ very similar methods with minor adjustments like Ochras needing more FAE.

Can any of you experts determine if these are Natalensis or Ochraceocentrata.

A major online vendor is indicating Natalensis and telling me its not unusual to take 3+ months to fruit once fruiting conditions in a monotub are initiated.

AI identitied these as Ochraceocentrata

I'm not an expert perhaps but I've grown plenty of ochras and I'm not sure if they're nats since I haven't dealt with them much but they don't look like Ochras to me at least. They also look kinda different from cubes so I'd GUESS nats.

Ochraceocentrata basically means "ochre center" and mine always get a pretty obvious ochre center with a bright rim whereas yours is ochre all over, also the veil seems to be very far up for a mature Ochra imo and ochras don't take 3 months to fruit, they go by the same/similar timeline cubes do. My latest tub pinned 2 days after the X7X cubes I spawned at the same time.

^ that might be actual Natalensis. Not that I know what it looks like, but here are things that DON'T look like Ochras to me.

1- Thicker than usual

2- that weird skirt leftover from the veil I suppose?

3- Ochras, or at least mine, have gills that extend into the stem, like this. Not sure if it's a hard rule, but that is how I've identified them after getting some prints confused.

Rev Myc posted a list of identifying differences between natalensis and ochraceocentrata. That's a lot more meaningful than whatever an AI that was trained on reddit tells you.

The spore vendor I know that tends to have composed pictures like that does have several offerings of actual natalensis (and explicitly distinguishes them from other ochras offerings), though I don't see any pictures exactly matching that screenshot on their site right now.

I've grown ochras but not natalensis. Tthey don't particularly look like ochras to me either. While I'm not sure if it's universal, my ochras have always had gills extending down to the stipe like that too.

Edit: grammar fix.

Just harvested a first flush from one of my tubs that had some thick marhmallow like overlay in places, so I harvested the overlay too and threw it into the dehydrator. Dear God, I thought fruits smelled weird while you dry, but the overlay has so much water, it takes it to the next level. My whole room smells like dirty socks!

Alright guys I'm confused AF here...

So, I germinated and grew some Cubensis x7x from a print kloakk was generous enough to send me ages ago and I just harvested the first tote but now I'm confused because these look way more like Ochras than cubes to me... I mixed something up somewhere along the way didn't I? Or did I grow ochra looking cubes? Only difference I can spot from my usual Ochras is that these have brighter gills and a whiter stem.

^ yeah, looks like ochras. cap coloring but also the gills, see how they go into the stem? That's a sign of ochras. I did the same thing for a while as well :l

Bingo. At first it was the top of them that made me go "hmmm" so I looked at the gills and noticed that they do go into the stem which is what confused me the most... I keep wondering where the fuck I managed to mix em up:awesome: because I always do one species at a time when inoculating agar and transfering, same thing goes for the a2g and when spawning to bulk yet here we are...

I have no idea what you mean dude. But I know you took a break for a while. Might not have caught the word that what used to be called nats are now ochra. And nats are something totally different.. to out it in layman's terms anyways

Harvested the fruit and it has both normal bottom gills and gills that formed on top with possibly a stipe growing out of that, like a conjoined twin.
