I just had a “bad trip” experience with someone and they seemed to come out on the other end…..better.

Had to explain to them that usually I like them cause it seems like they bring up some sort of issue I didn’t want to deal with but end up actually working through it.

Bad trips is what makes me come back for more, the shrooms destroy me so I can rebuild myself the way I want and not what my previous experience thought me to be.

I am inline with you both.

Maybe it’s from all the bs you read about “bad trip” reports but I just have a hard time understanding what would make it bad. In my eyes it makes me the most vulnerable and in the vulnerable state we can dig deeper into what haunts us

I embrace difficult experiences.  Like feeling the  suffering of the planet after 47 was elected on a solid dose of bisporus.  Literally the worst pain I have ever felt.  And it was all emotional.

For me a bad trip is if I end up in psychosis, and my partner has to babysit me for multiple days because I can't sleep and I'm to confused to be trusted alone.

:whathesaid:

Ive had some really "bad" ones.  One time I am seriously thought I was dying(I knew I wasn't, but was convinced I was)

was begging my parents to take me to the hospital.

Luckily they are doctors LOL and they checked my vitals and told me I was fine.

And I was like.. oh yeah... i am.  . About an hour later the trip was fucking awesome.

So for me there  usually only bad or absolutely insane and just too intense for a lil bit of time.

Even though somtime it can feel like forever.  But I always come out on the other end better in every way.

That's why I stopped  calling those bad trips. But that's usually what people are talking about when they say bad.

That one where I was begging my parents tontake me to the hospital and to not let me die.  That was true ego death.

Up until that trip I'd always told everybody I was a master of my mind and no trip could get to me because I was too experienced.

That was the day the LSD showed me there's no such thing.

Those tend to be the trips that show you how to be the best version of yourself if you choose to pay attention.

I cannot escape the notion that 'bad trips' are a product of our capitalist / commodity view on everything. 'They said beautiful colors but instead I had to confront difficult shit, I demand to speak to a manager, RIGHT NOW'

Trips show you what's percolating in your subconsciousness, what stuff you've been pushing to the periphery or couldn't reconcile with your ego. That might be pure unhinged madness, it might be the epitome of beauty, it might be fear for your boss, or death, or disappointing your parents. It might be all those things at once, rolled into the fat croissant of life.

To say 'if it makes me giggle it's good, if I have to cry it's bad' (for example) is to ignore the richness of experience you're carrying with you.

You get to experience things that were within your mind all along. If you payed attention and didn't close off yourself, there will be many, many beautiful things within you. And right next to the flowers and kittens and overflowing love, there's death and rape and towering injustice and decay. It's all real and it all has to be dealt with. Why not face it and accept that life comes as it is, and you don't get to choose what flavor you want on your plate?

Confession: I've neglected all of the projects to the point of no return (two heatwaves in a row didn't help). So there's that, it's fucked. The next heatwave is announcing itself and maybe I should just call it quits for a while. The last project I spawned (semilanceata) was boiled to death before it could even jump from grain. Internal temp of the propagator was 44*C when I checked it.

Today we'll tell the kids the cat isn't going to make it and it's going to be tough.

Someone insulted me during a trip, I spent the next 3 hours playing it over in my head in much detail.

So that was something that at least made me seriously consider who I would be around during another trip. Because I will be general and say those 3 hours had bad, uncomfortable feelings. I did learn from it.

Confession:  I have decided to stop growing actives for a long while.  I’m at a point in life where I need less to worry about, not more.  I’ll still drop in and try and help out, but it’s time to not have to look over my shoulder anymore.

So true.

Right next to all of the suffering of 47, was the infinite heart of compassion.

Reminding me to breathe, and that this too shall pass.

I've never been so terrified, or felt so held and connected.

I write this as I'm getting ready for a Nino's Santos ceremony with the close friend and teacher who started me off on this path a few years ago. This will be the first ceremonial journey that I've done with medicine that I've grown myself. I'm looking forward to it but I'm also at a difficult place in my life and find myself a little bit anxious about what might "happen"

But I agree with what several others have said about always coming out for the better on the other side of an experience that might feel unpleasant in the moment.

The medicine gives us what we need, not what we ask for. There can be difficult moments but it's always for the good.
