Howdy folks, recently got back in the Zap game.

I ran an old, tired Holy Grail culture in the hopes of getting some fresh material. I'm out of prints, whoops  It did surprisingly well. #1 is on canary seed, the others are on wheat. Canary seed is really rad for this section. Worth the expense. I nibbled on 5g fresh and it was barely perceptible. I'll have to try a larger dose next time.

Very nice!
by the way I use canary seed only

Cheers Noah- hre's hoping your Tapala have been having a healthy few days too :paradisiscoolwhat:
Just finished misting these Texolo, and have been giving them direct sunshine on my desk every day. Really enjoying seeing them mature.

Thrilled to be seeing these stipes IRL.
:homerdrool:
I'm getting nice growth on my VC/Tlalnelhuayocan Zap plates too, but forgot pics.

P.S @Mojave, very sick.

I've been curious af about Zaps since kloakk praised them a while back saying he liked them even better than Sempervivas, I've got some nice clean agar which I made some "just in case" transfers so I'll have guaranteed clean plates ready for grains soon! I really have to Stop being so lazy. I should've had this done quite a long while back after rumblestrip sent me a behemoth of a letter with zaps, subs, ingeli and more (BIG thanks bro:awesomenod: I'm dedicated to finally get these going)
:smitten:

The ones I've got going are Cinco Palos, I germinated the Popaceptl too but I have to go back to spores again on that one.

Is there any point in doing fancy shit with these or will they thrive with simple setups like Subtropicales/Semperviva does?

Another question is how would you describe the trip compared to Semperviva HVC? Because those are by far the best shit I've ever tried:crazyeyes:

It’s really sick how differently and unique each different zapo collected at various locations, and there are no human involved 😎
that’s Tapala and Popokatepetl finalising. Texolo cakes went to forest for summer rest in the soil and will be returned back home following September

@Skansk, trip wise I haven't tried them so, like you, I'm very keen to find out!
:nyan:
And also with the "need for fancy shit" I have there an 11l ez dial, only "fanciness" being addition of hardwood fuel pellets in the substrate and mixed grains (fancy bird seed for number of innocluation points, popcorn for main grain) for spwn. And that was for the myc to get some variety rather than thinking it was necessary.

other than than I've been working on these as I do semp. So my vote from this one growing experience and general reading, has me believe they'll do well in simple conditions- provided you've the culture for it.

& From what I gather, this is true for much of section Zapotecorum thus far.

@Noah
I agree about what you say on these different looks and all that, so cool.
It gets me imagining what it is about each locale that brings the morphological changes, the landscape conditions, weather intensity, rain frequency etc.
I would L O V E to see any of section Zap in their home habitat...
:hellyeah:
Gorgeous looking fruits there too- have you tried the trip from either of those types there?

I was inspired by you of course 🙂 and Kloakk, it was wild seeing him grow Holy Grail better than myself. From my print nonetheless! It was splendid. Thanks to you both for elevating my cult experience.

And thanks for the compliments friends. Nice grows as well, as I get caught up on the thread. I’m excited to see that this species is gaining popularity.

@ Noah Keeper, i think the NSW are going to be popular once people get a taste of them. Nice flush!
@ MojaveMyc great flush also!
@ SkanskKorv, good to see you getting busy!. In answer to your question papuana is a top contender for next species to get familiar with.

Second run with zaps, think these are cinco palo..

I’ve seen people say to run anything in the section long like semps, how long would you guys suggest to let them mature?

I didn't ask for that... But somehow you knew I needed that answer anyways:lol:

So now you gave me a new potential obsession, tell me more please:naughty: I haven't seen many cultivating those around here. How's the effect of them compared to semps?

Time is relative lol. Keep going as long as you can. Don't be afraid to selectively harvest caps but be careful pulling stems. You can leave them behind for quite a while typically.
Section zapotecorum is always strongest when they are heavily dropping spores and just after. They're done when the base of the stem just starts to weaken. Most will begin to fuzz up at the base.

Thank you, great piece of info concerning the weakening base and fuzzy feet!

I think they’re incredible. Exceptionally clear and positive for me, solid potency as well around semps I’d say give or take. The few times I’ve eaten them I’ve found nothing but positivity and felt they fit my being quite well. There’s a definite similarity to semps or zaps I could surmise but perhaps lighter and sharper, I’d also say compared to semps or zaps which I tend to find to be quite old and ancient these have a more youthful temperament. I won’t say I like them more than others but all I’ll say is these won’t be shared with anyone but my wife and I if that tells you anything…

Thanks LewDoja, I was coming back to this but was sure how to word it. I haven't gone deep but as kirkeng states they are very clear, positive, and steady with no body load or anxiety at moderate doses. Top shelf. My semps are more potent but these are still strong enough.

that’s my bless 😁 kidding. Nice, but you have to wait a bit more, once spores will be there you won’t miss that moment, everything around will be scattered with them brown-purplish colour, just patience. I also got some zapos almost done, will takes probably couple days more
