No no no, you guys shouldn't be monitoring, you should be participating!

(Once we get fruits, we should try to shoot for a day when as many as possible can trip at the same time, like with those weird covid get-togethers. Swamp the site with weird remarks, send each other weird tracks to listen to. Cause we can)

I think I'll go put some  cultures to agar now and see what happens!

Didn't know this one, think it would handle 4b Zone Hardiness in Canada outdoors?

What sort of outdoor substrate would would work well, any lucky mixes yet?

How specific is it with the types of wood it colonizes? I have quite a few felled trees from a storm a few years ago. Would love to find a good outdoor variety to take those on.

Can grains like millet colonize a log? gotta make a hole inside and cover it? Is this more decaying wood, or leaf pile?

Just got done prepping to put a smash wedge to 3 agar cups. And what I was told is this bad boy grows all the way up to the arctic circle, it can handle the cold.

I’m personally trying to grow them like p. Cyanescens. Agar- grain- bags of sterilized hardwood chips- outside with raw wood chips. I thought about making some “ plug spawn” for funsies. Definitely will know more by the end of the year.

Typical woodlover. It eats chips and twigs. I've seen pics of fruits coming out of well-rotten logs, so yeah, you might try that. Would be an awesome sight.

This is a crude wooden crate that I filled with 400 ml millet spawn and about 5 l chips. It colonized very quickly and now I just grab some out of it if I feel like starting another patch. This is Brno btw.

I think they would feel good in Canada.

If you consider where they grow in nature in Czechia, it's mostly on decaying oak wood. That's why oak or beech wood chips would be best, I guess.

I’ve heard they are among the hardest to grow, but people might choose a type of wood they don’t grow on naturally, hence the possible struggle.

I would stick with oak chips, possibly with some beech chips mixed in, or just oak chips alone.

This is my first try to grow them artificially in the local park.
The time will show what serbica really loves and what's the best go to sub.
I'm super stoked. Can't wait to ovserve the first results.

Thank you all.❤️

I never got any fruits the one time I put them out here in Alaska (that I know of.  Slugs were apparently DECIMATING my woodlover fruits which I didn't know until I tried in pots instead...), but of all the myc I tried on the property in birch, spruce, alder, and willow mix - the serbica by far grew the furthest the fastest - and kept expanding until it was freezing outside.  Not even a contest in comparison to cyans, azzies, etc.  Closest was probably quebecensis which survived over winter without any covering but expanded much slower.

They are very fast huh? Some of the patches / flowerpots I made are already fully colonized. The caeruleorhiza and aztecorum seem to be that fast too. They all don't seem to be very fond of grain and start bulking up once they're on chips. Then switch to very aggressive colonization.
