I apologize for my ignorance. The answer is obvious. I'm in too much of a rush. Gotta slow my roll.

PSA! Be very careful putting stainless steel trivets or adding stainless steel bolts to your aluminum trivets if you use a aluminum PC like the Presto 23qt. I have ran mine only twice since purchasing it and on the second run I placed the stainless trivet from my Instant pot under my aluminum trivet to give it some height. After the run I noticed galvanic corrosion in the pot.

I have this all over the bottom of my Presto from running it like 100 times since adding bolts. Guess I was just hoping they were scratches from the aluminum being softer than the stainless.
:facepalm3:

This is probably a low grade stainless.

Edit - lazy man’s research via Grok -  In a galvanic couple, aluminum will corrode preferentially to protect the stainless steel.

Unfortunately aluminum is almost the least noble of alloys so it will develop corrosion when in contact with just about any other metal other than pure magnesium. You could just use high temp rtv and coat the bottoms of your stainless bolts to make "boots" for them so you don't have to get new hardware.

I would suggest rubber boots for the ends of your stainless screws and rubber or Teflon washers where they would contact the aluminum trivet. Something like these.

You sound impatient, take some transfers anyway.

2 weeks without growth is pretty much guaranteed clean.

I use em right away and did for a long time.

Contams from pouring tend to be light, spotty bacterial sattelites that are pretty easy to distinguish from a bad transfer.

I made up another jar of agar tonight with the intent of pouring this last stack of plates but I'm running out of energy.  if I leave this jar until tomorrow is re-melting it going to be more trouble than its worth?

its a full pint jar (8g agar, 8g LME, 400g water) if that matters.

thank you!  I colored this batch blue since its the least common naturally-occurring color but I'm not necessarily sold on colored agar at all yet.  the "clear" ones I've done to this point worked out just fine, but blue will be pretty

Personally I put some silicone on those bolts since it is both food safe and heat resistant up into the hundreds of degrees.

Okay serious question. It is oft times claimed that fruit grown in a cake where there is or has been Tric should not be consumed and then there's a long warning about how dangerous it is. It all sounds very logical but my real question is has anyone ever seen a case study or a paper written by an actual physician or virologist supporting these claims. Even one person who became ill? I know that commercial growers treat the infections and don't toss out vast numbers of mushrooms so I question if these are facts or myth. Any actual science beyond theory?

Trichoderma is a genus that contains several species of mold with varying levels of toxicity. Similar to how there are many mushrooms in the panaeolus genus, but not all are psychadelic.

I understand both of your statements but I really am looking for scientific evidence that medical science backs up not eating mushrooms because they were grown beside or near or in the vicinity of are in the tub with a trachoderma that they manage to outcompete. I mean really if we're going to tell people this is dangerous surely there would be case study write-ups in medical journals somewhere.

A lot of what we do or say has little published scientific data to support it due to the illegal nature of what we’re doing here.

Also who says don’t eat fruits from a triched out tub? I know I’ve eaten some. Trich is everywhere, and is particularly present in my garden soil. I eat a lot of stuff from my garden. Use common sense. Are your fruits rotting? Don’t eat them. Are they covered in green trich spores? Maybe don’t eat those. Healthy looking fruit from a tub with a spot of green in the corner? I’d dehydrate and eat those all day.

I plan to gently sand away the pitted corrosion from my canner using 400 grit sandpaper, followed by some red Scotch-Brite pads. It's important to note that once the protective oxide layer is compromised, the corrosion process can speed up, potentially causing further damage and weakening the aluminum structure. With over 25 years of experience in the aviation industry, I can confidently say that addressing this issue is crucial; if left untreated, the corrosion will only worsen and spread. The environmental conditions inside a pressure canner—characterized by high humidity, heat, sodium, and chloride—are quite similar to those found in a salt fog chamber, which we utilize to assess corrosion prevention methods for aluminum. Additionally, the water within the canner serves as an electrolyte, facilitating the flow of electrical current and promoting corrosion. This process is further intensified by heat and any salts or minerals present in the water.
