Both lookin pretty slick! I think PE varieties have to be given a push into real ropey growth. Maybe lower nutes? Dont quote me...

Gravy! Yes, I use my stick blender for cooking too.

Hey Rev, are the 4-digit numbers on your plates counting since your first ever plate?

I've never seen that done, but it's cool.

I can only imagine what mine would be.

Not that high but I know I've gone through 2 boxes of 500 and I'm on my 3rd box of 500, plus bought a box of 100 and a box of 50 when I started.

It's like each of you agars is a collector's item artwork: hand-lettered, limited edition, numbered plates.

Sorry I am “quoting” you already!

Yeah not sure how to get them to ropey rhizo growth. I’ll definitely do a T2 from this plate and save a couple of punches in a CV, but it is hard not to take such a sexy clean plate to grain.

I’m curious if anyone on The Shroomery has compiled a chart or spreadsheet that has info on which types do better with lower or higher nutrient levels? Then one could make plates and choose their type of shroom accordingly.

I did this a few days ago for the first time to try and clean up a culture.

Question: I thought I should only take a transfer from the mycelium that will poke up on the "roof". But am I able to take a transfer from any mycelium getting out from the cabin. Meaning even the mycelium that will come out on the sides?

My guess would be yes..but what to make sure:shrug:

Yes, I’d say wait and let it grow out well past the roof and take leading edge myc, like so (the plate has grown out since I took the transfers):

It's better to take farther away from the cabin, so yes you could take the roof- BUT it's more likely to carry over some Fkery

Got it! let it run a bit and then take a transfer.

Thank you guys very much for the input!:takingnotes:

Do you guys normally do more than 1 cabin to clean a culture or you find 1 to be enough most of the time?

The jars of Tamps I have running was actually done like this:
Clone to agar (C0)
Sample transferred to cabin (roofless)
Outer edge, 11-01 o clock was transferred to grain (that part that is behind the label)

I sent wedges directly from the cabin plates, for two other grows as well, those looked very nice all the way.
You ideally test whether the cabin has worked or not, on a new plate, and send from there.

Just a serial number yes, but it includes jars, plates and tubs/trays. I track more detailed info in a password protected spreadsheet associated to the serial number.

I started doing it this way in December of 2020, so a year or two in before the counter started.

I like it.

So your system is like Joy Division's label, Factory Records. Where they gave an FAC number to albums, singles, CDs, posters, the nightclub they ran, etc. And "even a a lawsuit filed against Factory Records by producer Martin Hannett (FAC 61)"

Pic tax, some early x7x+ being rhizo, as is tends to be

Teach me, whats the point of a rootless cabin?

Isn't that same as a trench but without as big of a gap? Seems pointless to me but I don't know shit so I'm ready to learn:shrug:

The difference from trenching is that you’re using a fresh and clean plate instead of cutting a trench into a contaminated one, which risks spreading bacteria even more. You also take just a small, healthy-looking sample, which further reduces the chance of dragging contamination along.
(That’s my logic behind doing transfers like this.)

The gap is helpful to shake off bacterial contamination, but it's not as efficient as CS.

CS works on similar principles but adds another element: the mycelium has to physically force its way through clean agar, which acts like a mechanical filter.
That tunneling not only blocks bacteria, but it also (supposedly) naturally selects for stronger, more aggressive mycelium.

Disclaimer:
This is based on my understanding of the mechanics, I'm no biologist.
If anyone has any input on this that teaches me, I'd be happy to learn and have my ignorance corrected ☺️
