They have all of the processing plants on earth in their country. We just made a rare minerals deal with Ukraine.

Now that Trump ruined our relationship with the only people on earth that currently have the ability to process those minerals.

Yeah, typically you want to have a replacement lined up before you blow that shit apart but let's be real. There are lots of "rare" earth minerals in the U.S. but also lots of reasons not to mine or process them here.

Cost - we have rules, regulations and prevailing wages that make it much less expensive to do elsewhere

Strategic reserve - eventually, any finite resource will become rare given constant demand. Perhaps it's better to source elsewhere until we really need our own.

Environmental concerns - even with relatively strict regs, mining operations are an environmental disaster. Let everyone else pollute their rivers and shit. Maybe by the time we have to, we'll have developed a workaround.

Other - I mean, probably, right?
