Thanks for the follow-up.  I think the email went to your personal acct, sorry.  I did resend.

We live in the same state and it took USPS 10 days to deliver a tracked package to me.  That’s certainly not on you, but I do appreciate you stepping in.

Next to no chance of anything sprouting from these plates?  I’ve got no problem working these, but I assume frozen = dead.  Thanks again.

The culture themselves possibly could have survived. You can transfer to New dishes and see if they'll go. Regardless, I'm making a new batch for you. Yeah it was wicked cold last week

Here is a plate off of a bag that I wanted to make sure was clean before I spawned it.  The plate is just over a month old, and wants to breed so bad!

The strain is PES Amazonian, from sporeworks, of which I can only say, it grows fast, but it yields a lot and is kick ass strong.

Third time Ive heard about that strain from SW.  Gonna have to pull the trigger for my next project.

I have 2 questions regarding 4 plates. The first two plates I want to put to grains, do they look okay?

The two last plates I see that there is both rhizomorphic and tomentose growth, is that normal and should I do another transfer before grains?

Sorry about pic quality, best I could get with my old phone and no day light :wow:

Is there a difference between PES Amazonian and just Amazonian? Not that theres much difference between classic cubes anyway, but I'm working "Amazonian" that I got from a friend. I didn't know there was "PES" attached the name, if its the same thing. I doubt any of these even really matters anyway, but ya know...

Wow. That's strong. 2.4% actives.

Is it possible pins are stronger than full grown shrooms? Do you have another test to do full grown one of same variety?

I think we wouldn't know because not many people are willing to harvest a tub as pins and eat them.

I remember someone asking when I first came on here if he'd get high doing eating a bunch of pins, was his first grow. People talked him out of it with "wait a week, you'll have a lot more weight."

But I wonder.

Pic tax, a pin.

The bag of pins I referred to tested out at just under 4%. I have about 40g of those. Mature fruits from the same tubs ran a bit over 2%.

I don't know about any 'difference', as the only Amazonian strain I have grown is this one.  PES refers to Pacific Exotica Spores, which was a business, ran by a character who was a pioneer in medicinal growing.

Since these miraculix tests have come out, I have measured specimens that range from .5% by dry weight to almost 2.5%. There is tons of variation in 'classic' cubes.

I just peeped their website real quick. 5 tests are $90 - I assume thats exactly what it sounds like and that provides the materials to test a fruit 5 times? As opposed to reusing the tests I mean.

Wow....so the pins are almost 2x the strength of adult fruits. I wonder if that's common across the board.

That may have been true 15 years ago when people started parroting it, but it's no longer true. People are working on selecting stronger cubes all the time.

The Psilo Cup results disprove it. They show a wide range between "classic cubes."

"A cube is a cube, except PE", thread from 15 years ago, possibly the source of that misnomer.

Pic tax, some fairly strong cubes that look very classic.

Are we reading the same results?  The top 25 on that list are almost exclusively penis envy derivatives.  "Classic cubes" aren't showing up regularly on the list until their median measurement.

People are working on stronger cubes all the time, mostly with wildcat penis envy crosses.  Even the enigma fin mutation is of the family penis.

Fair point. I haven't seen any mention of exceptional quality coming direct from vendors, so I guess I was thinking of it in terms of there being a difference between varieties while window shopping for spores. Selected genetics weren't on my mind there - my bad.

Speaking of, I'm a couple transfers in and have a promising looking plate of x7x+ and an LC sterilized and on standby. LFG!

LC test plate again. I understand the pic isn't great - I read through Nektars tips for pics and this was as good as it's getting. I dont a steady hand for this shit at all...

Can anyone say with certainty that this is contam? Im on the fence about it and want to retest the LC on proper petri, but I'll just toss and start over if need be.

Edit: LC test plate #2 (different LC) pass or fail opinions?

I was looking at the wrong year.

Look at this one, the second list that goes back to 7 pages. (I think later years people got really competitive and mostly entered PE variants and Enigma type things):

https://tripsitter.com/psilocybin-cup/

Last page of that you've got lowest  (first number is combined psilocin and psilocybin, that's the one to look at)
Arkansas Landrace 0,19

And
Mazatapec 0,31

that's a 2:3 variation in strength on one page of this. That's very much not "a cube is a cube."

I don't know the names of all the PEs and blobs like Enigma, so went to the last pages.

Page 6 has a
Golden Teacher at 0,55

which is over twice Arkansas Landrace. And well over Mazatapec, to where you'd notice the differnce

Even without those results, I know that I've had non-PE cubes that are half the strength of other non-PE cubes. (That I've grown under similar conditions and dried for 24 hours)

Even with "set and setting" accounted for, I think anyone who's grown and eaten a lot of non-PE cubes knows that "a cube's a cube" is not science.

I feel like context is important here, but maybe it's just the way my mind works.

I've always taken "a cube is a cube" to mean that they're the same in a broader sense. If you start isolating potent fruits from any of them, you'd be able to achieve a superior content level, yeah? I would think that if you acquired 100 prints of each variety from all different sources and grew them all out, you would see an average within each variety that came close to the average of every other variety. Basically, taking any kind of selection out of the equation, I guess. Maybe that isnt what people mean, but I interpreted it as the varieties not having any kind of default potency difference. 🤷‍♂️

:whathesaid: *she

I've had same varieties with vastly different potency, between it's self.

The one thing in common that the more potent ones had (in comparison with not so potent) was the selection of aggressive rhizo...

Yeah I know i know... ppl say it doesn't matter. But that's what the game changer was. night and day difference. And with that have hardly been disappointed since following that practice.

This has been an itch in the back of my brain actually.

Is there any actual difference in variety of cube that people are aware of?  idk, could be anything.  tolerances in temp. humidity. prefered grain/substrate. fruiting conditions.  contam resistance.  Light requirements for looking nice.  fuck me if I can list it all.  I got 4 'varieties' of cube thinking that one might just perform better for me...

What the is the actual difference?  Are there actual differences in potency between varieties or is it a matter of spore and rhizome strength?

There isn't anything you could feasibly do nor anyone say. Just treat a cube as a cube, harvest on a per tub basis. That's it, there is not much "science" more just anecdotes and trial and error on these parts, but that's the nature of it.

Cube is a cube.
