Sorry I'm not trying to be difficult I"m trying to better understand this. I found this on the Hitchhiker guide (which I only recently discovered):

Quote:
Why am I getting blobs? Penis Envy tends to "blob".  Rather than growing nice little dongs like the pictures showed when you purchased your culture, you're getting ugly little warts that will grow into big ugly toads. This is part of the nature of Penis Envy varieties and we all struggle with blobs from time to time. Yes, you can still eat them. If they are very thick, (like any very thick mushroom) you should slice them up before you dry them. Yes, they're still every bit as potent as the dongs. Typically, you'll get a wave of blobs on your first flush and then subsequent flushes will produce some dongs. Its always tempting for noobs to want to grow penis envy as their first attempt, and I personally don't think this is a great idea for this reason. I recommend using Stipe-n Cap's "pseudo-casing" technique to help mitigate this issue. I also use this technique for nearly every variety I grow and you'll see that it is included in my "Beefy Tub" tek previous discussed in the HHG pt. 1.

Are these Mycogone because they are blobs or are they Mycogone because they are reddish colored? Is the reddish color Mycogone or is it "mushroom urine" or whatever? That's where I'm having a hard time.

I say let it ride. I had this happen a few times and normal fruits came after that.
Just put it somewhere and start agar meanwhile.

Amber as fuck.

So just to be super clear I trust your judgement 100% and want to make sure I understand what you're seeing here in order to educate myself and better assist others in the future. The only in-focus amber in that pic I see looks dry and the liquid seems clear. I was able to find this suuper crappy picture of my last blobs that I think appear similar? I'm still working on dialing in my tubs since getting my new space set up in July and this one was pretty fucked, way too wet. Well aware this sub looks terrible

All the dark spots in this pic were dry when I took the pic. The places in my pics where it looks like there might be amber liquid is actually clear liquid sitting on top of darker areas of myc. These blobs were a pain in the ass to harvest but were otherwise healthy when I cut them open to dry. Different pic from the same tub, this ended up being a 90g blob at harvest.

All of the areas that ended up blobbing started as just dark, thick myc which then started to grow into whatever happened here. You can see a patch of that next to the blob in the second pic with blobs on one side and bare myc on the other. That liquid was completely clear, the coloration in the pic is just from the myc itself. Is this actually some sort of contam I'm just not familiar with? I've only seen mycogone a couple of times in my tubs but it was pretty clearly very unhealthy growth with a lot of very dark amber liquid obviously oozing out of it.

Well that makes one of us

I absolutely could be wrong, it could be blobs.  I haven't grown PE with any serious intent since 2018, so it's been a long time since I've seen them in person.

It just seems a bit more sus than the blobs I'm used to seeing, and I really don't like the overall discoloration.

Guess we'll find out

Yeah I do agree it looks sus AF and def not "right". I also agree with your ultimate recommendation to toss as well. This kind of shit is why I'm done with PE personally, just not worth the hassle.

IME PE blobs discharge those very amber metabolites.  Looks like PE blobs to me.  I wouldn’t toss that tub

It doesn’t happened every time but that amber color is pretty common in PE blob tubs I’ve had.  If it were any other variety I’d say it’s toss worthy but I think that’d be a mistake here.

QQ re: botulism

Long story short ...

Dehydrator gave out on Nov. 30 in the middle of a cycle.

Like a dumbass I left the shroomies in there!!! Lol wtf right?? Lol

Today my new dehydrator finally arrived.

Are the shroomies still good, or are they now botched?? They were in the dehydro so not airtight which causes botulism right? They are still kinda dry, not soggy at all.

Also ...

I got some "fresh" shroomies in the fridge from Dec. 3rd and 5th. Are they good?? Or botched, too?? I feel like these are still good but just want some second and third opinions lol

I appreciate y'all!

Do you have a screwdriver you don't mind torching? Or a soldering iron? Melting holes is convenient for Pasty EZ-dial hole patterns. For bigger holes you can torch the rim of a sturdy can (like what's used for tomatoes or other veg you buy in the store) and use that to melt a hole.

Just be sure to do it outside or in a well ventilated area.

Hi guys. First time grower here. I'd like some opinions of my fruits if possible.

The bottom right cake is a slow grower. It took almost a week longer to colonize its jar (very little rhizomorphic growth compared to the other 3). That's probably why its fruits are just showing their heads.

I was hoping to get some spores from the bigger one, but it looks like it already broke its veil. But I'm not sure if it already dropped spores. There's some black on its stem but nothing below it (don't mistake the vermiculite below for it). It grew crazy fast, before work it didn't look like a mature fruit to me and when I came back (12h later, long day tbh) it was already like in the picture.

All criticism is welcome. Thank you.

I'm thinking about getting a 5 disc ultrasonic humidifier from house of hydro for a grow tent 51x51x68 inches. I'm going to get the special coating to double the warranty.

Good idea? Know something better? Tips, tricks, cheat codes and wild opinions all welcome.

Hey, Should be a quick one here. How long after the veil breaks can i wait before harvesting? I just checked my current grow and a few decided to grow twice as fast as the rest and their veil has already come down, while the bulk of the batch dosen't look close yet.i Just want to open it the minimum amount of times i can, but don't want the ones that a ready to be sacrificed. Thanks in advance!

QQ: How does this jar look? Ganoderma lucidum on BRF puck, inoculated with vendor LC (just a few drops) on Nov. 29th. I've never dealt with reishi before, so I'm not sure if it looks right. And the "fancy" jar isn't helping visibility much.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Humidifiers and tents are a waste of money IMO. A monotub is vastly superior and maintains its own humidity regardless of the humidity outside the tub.

A 5 disc seems like overkill. I’m running a bigger tent with a 3 disc, and I can easily make it too wet inside.

I was wondering if maybe 5 was too much. Im getting an inkbird humidity controller and a 4 inch duct fan to try to tame those beasts.

I definitely liked the 5 disc when I had a 5'x5'
24/7 exhaust, and ultrasonic hooked to ink bird. A circulation fan inside is also a must

@captain would have a point if you're only running cubes. But for pans, or gourmets not a bad investment at all

Opening your tub isn't gonna hurt anything
You can wait until they spore everywhere if you wanted
Could also just the pick the early birds now..unless that's what you were saying you don't wanna do

Either way...dont sweat it to much

Does appear to be spores on the Stipe (damnit Stipe, my phone auto capitalizes that word anymore..) you could probably print it now, or swab it

How does everyone mix their powdered fruits for capsules? I poured into a 2gal ziplock and shook the shit out of it for a while. I would think that's plenty for uniform potency, yeah?
