By the way… there was a person who stepped up and asked for their participation prize pack. They should be getting it any day now!

My confessions:
1) I honestly feel like I was a better cultivator 2-3 years ago.

2) I feel guilty and feel a bit of vicarious pain when I neglect some aspect of my procedures or setting and maintaining environmental parameters and my mushrooms take the hit because of me!
(So sorry I let you down guys!  :mushroom2:)

Well it’s a number of things, but I think it boils down to being too busy to put enough attention and planning into doing it right, and being good enough to get by without completely failing.

Before I was trying much harder to be focussed, to learn (maybe even master) cultivation techniques. Now with being so busy I’m
Just being “good enough”.

The other issue is with limited time I really should just focus on a few select cultures, listen to them, observe them closely, and understand what they need.

Instead, I’ve got probably 25-30 cultures on plates at various points in the transfer process…  8 or 10 that are a week old, 20 or so that are 2-4 weeks old, and then a big assortment of things that are 3-6 months old! 🤪😳

Those older plates should be tossed out, but I’m not staying organized enough to remember which of the older master plates have a good transfer plate that is less than a month old.

On the culture front I need to make a bunch of distilled water slants and move backward from fresh clean plates and make long term storage of them, then look at the older plates and if I don’t have a slant prepared for them, make a transfer and if it’s clean after a week, then into the slant it goes… until I only have a half dozen fresh plates that I’m focussed on and the others are “archived” until I have more time to bring them out of storage.

It all boils down to making mush cult more of a priority and ditching the “good enough” attitude. 😊

Have you tried dry grain as your storage method?

I have not
Thank you for that idea.
Is there a special dehydration procedure for that?

I’ve purchased mushroom cultures from Europe and I got these vacuum sealed dry colonized millet packets.  Is that the kind of thing you are suggesting?

Pretty much, it works great. I think faht has a thread about it with special lids he made to increase the airflow and dry the grain out.

Yeah, faht turned me onto it.  When I’m ready to spawn I pour some into an unused Petri in front of the hood and let them dry for like 8 hours then put the lid on and parafilm it up.  I’m using millet so it dries out pretty quickly…I let the plate sit wrapped in the sab for several days to make sure they’re good and dry…I have some jewelers zip baggies that they can then be moved to for shipping or storage. I think faht’s just been letting residual grains dry in the jars after spawning which works as well.  When you want to use, just place a grain on agar and it’ll rehydrate and wake up.  I don’t have any data on how long they’re good for but I’m guessing they’re viable for some time.  It’s solid. Hopefully faht will chime in with his experience as well.

Thanks Mycolorado and AKA!

It’s been said a few times in here that there are some cultivation tips you can pick up along the way…

Other ppl have done the residual spawn grains but I use specialized lids to dry them out quicker..  These lids. Then I stick them in damprid bags.. dry in a couple weeks.  Wish I had a hood so I can dry them that quickly :headbanger:

I’ve revived grains that sat at room temp dried for over a year and half no problem.  I’m sure they go much longer but that’s just the longest I’ve tried so far.. they’ve never not revived.  Older ones do take longer than fresher dried grains tho just like spores

Put on 8 jars of WBS to pc while I was very drunk late one night. Came to 4hrs later in my chair, freaked the fuck out and ran to the kitchen. The stove was off, apparently I had turned it off but didn't remember. Scared the shit out of me, so I now do all my work before I get drunk.

Oh, mushroom, cultivator gods.

I made the sin of looking at YouTube for information before coming here.
They told me this ridiculous tek where I was supposed to soak pearlite make a 2 inch layer on the bottom cover that with foil. All of that had to be thrown into the garbage.

Then I even had the hubris of taking spore syringe, and putting it directly into a jar of Rye.
The blasphemy of it.
Luckily, two of the three strains were strong. It conquered the cakes.
I was able to transfer them into some agar and clean themed up. I used tissue transfers for those.

On my second attempt. I had to Jerry rig a loop to use a spore print.
What a fool I was. I have bought loops. And they will be used from this point on.
I have to live with these two failures.
I accept my punishment, whatever it may be.

Last night.
Caerulescen, Ovoideocystidiata, Kodama.

Whittled me down, put me through hellish deconstruction. Fear, darkness, pain for the first two hours. I needed to shed and to reconcile and to humble myself in ways I didn't know about. A heavy purge at hour two followed by a profound and deep spiritual empowerment. Telepathic matrices, healing, layers of lessons and profound understanding. I love my family. I love my friends. I love myself and I love this world. It is a gift. Gifts come with responsibility.

I would not suggest this combo or amount for most people. I did it alone and it was really hard and intense. I am better for it. It was a profound and undeniable spiritual experience.

Please stop burning the earth. Please make time to try to understand each other. Love is all there is and all the pain needs to be transformed. Pain and hatred are love too it just needs to be tuned and harmonized. Energy exists and can only be transformed. None can be cut out or removed. It needs to be transformed and we and everything else are working on that process with every bit of action.

I hope you are all having a good day or night.

I am crying inside :cryariver:  I recently got my hands on an LC of an "Inca Stargazer".  For all I know it is just a cute GT clone with an exciting label on.  Not to worry, that's not the point of this.  First thing I do when I get new genetics is to chuck some on a BRF cake, that being my most reliable way to get to a flush.  Then I can clone or make a spore print and secure the new whatever it is that I got.

This time I was surprised by the densest, most exciting BRF "canopy" I've ever grown:

I was nurturing this grow like it was going to transmogrify into gold and solve all my financial problems.  Today I noticed it was a little dry.  I very carefully lifted the lid of the tub I was growing it in, grabbed my mister, and gave it a good squeeze.

You know exactly what it feels like to get that sinking feeling, don't you...  Because I was so focussed on lifting the lid as little as possible, I reached behind my back to grab my mister without looking properly.  I realised too late my 70% ISO was standing right next to my mister.  :frown:  My blood froze!

Anyway, I grabbed my real mister and tried to wash off what I could, but then had a super-wet flush of fruits.  I cracked the lid open and I hope the much-increased FAE can dry those babies, but I think I killed at least half my flush.  Man, oh man!

Anyway, there is my true confession

Nice cake! Wait and see what happens, it sounds like you dealt with the issue right away.
I use 2 sizes of misters to reduce the chance of grabbing the wrong one.
