Well what’s it’s not is PE mycelium, which is all that matters. Transfer away from it until you get a clean plate

Hi guys! could you help me with these germ plates? From where should i plan to take my first transfers? Ignore the one PE and NAT plate which i injected shit ton of spores accidentally. Do any of these look promising, especially the AA+ plates which seem to have some kind of aura before myc or is it just mold? Anyways here are the plates, hope you can see something from the pictures, i don´t know how you guys get such clear pictures!

The aa+ might have some bacteria riding along

It's always worth the experience.

If it doesn't clear up in a few transfers I would try a warm pour or a sandwich tek

That's the one! A warm pour is similar, but you're pouring liquid agar over the culture instead

Man, I'm seeing all these good looking plates, but I can't get shit to germinate. Was gonna go put in a few hours at work, but I guess I'll make some cakes

I used to germ on brf pucks then put that to water agar before transferring to regular agar. Guaranteed clean culture that way.

Thanks for the response, what do you think about the black dots on the PE?
I  did notice when I was testing these  cultures on agar that I didn’t let the needle fully cool after flame sterilization  so as I squeezed the side of my syringe  to release only a few drops it steamed  out and kinda quick cooled the needle and splattered  and on all 4 trays that happen with I ended up with some type of contamination I have not seen.
Thanks again

Am I to understand that you had 4 plates open all at once?  You should only be opening them one at a time, doing your business quickly, and closing them back up.

Germing on BRF is a life hack. I’ve seen growth from old syringes in less than 24 hours. It’s a great way to clean dirty swabs, too.

The real utility is for syringes and yucky swabs. Good for cleaning baccy plates too. I don’t really use them anymore since I’m past most of that tbh

No, those need more transfers before they're ready for grain. Ideally you want to take your xfers before your plates are all grown out like that, but you'll be fine doing them now.

If you need antibiotics for agar work you're doing something very wrong

I said want

I also read ampicillin works well for bacterial infections. also requires script.

Warm pour
RogerRabbit said:
Another trick to use that helps even without antibiotic agar is to simply pour hot agar right on top of a contaminated plate. The heat seems to slow down the molds long enough for the mushroom mycelium to recover and climb up through the layer to break out on top. This usually only takes a day or two. As soon as the myc starts to appear on the top layer, 'shave' a small amount off and transfer to a new dish. Don't take any of the agar, but only scrape a bit of the myc off the top. This seems to leave the contamination behind 90+ percent of the time. Repeat the process if necessary. I've cleaned up lots of edible cultures from the wild this way.

RogerRabbit said:
Antibiotics aren't for green mold which is an imperfect fungi, they're anti-bacterial. True, sterile technique is foremost, but some of us are using prints that were left under the cap too long and have bacterial rods all over them. When the mushies germinate, so does the bacteria. Antibiotic agar is a godsend, imo.

Well I’m back these plates are from 9-30 I’ve changed my recipe, I did a single Z, I tried to stay as sterile as possible and yet… nothing but mold. Idk what to do anymore.

well dammit, that sucks dude. I'm still not sure if that's mold or just weak cube myc though. Your sterile procedure is definitely good, haven't noticed any weird satellite colonies in any of your pics. But it seems extra weird to have the same issue crop up after trying so many different sources when otherwise it seems like you're getting no contams. Still got your older plates sitting around?

edit: for reference i thought this plate was mostly mold, transferred one of the ropes off of it to be 'safe', and now the whole thing and it's brother plate are knotting/pinning
