Thanks. Does something concern you about the other non center spot?

I inoculated this by placing a drop (just one drop) of spore solution on the surface of the agar. But since I didn't dig into the agar at all to make a pit for it to sit in, the spore solution rolled around the dish a bit (along with some condensation on the agar surface).

Search “scalloping”… It is uneven progression of growth due to the media it’s growing on have different concentrations of nutrition or minute contamination dispersed through out it. It can be prevented with more homogeneously mixed and/or more sterile agar and/or more sterile inoculations/transfers.

So I'm glad we think what I have here is mycelium. I have one concern though. It's suspiciously shiny. Could bacteria be growing on top of it? (left side backlit, right side frontlit)

To grain or to another agar plate? If it looks clean is there any risk to putting it to grain? If there are invisible contaminants embedded in the mycelium and I transferred it to another agar plate, would the contamination not continue to grow with the mycelium in the new plate?

To agar, at least a couple more times.  Yes, baddies can ride along and one of the main reasons why a couple of xfrs are made, grabbing material from just the outer edge of the culture. This allows the myc to outrun those things, giving us clean cultures.  Those look pretty good so wouldn’t be concerned.  The other objective of agar work is to get nice, uniform, fast growth.

Just looked at your pic again…I don’t like the culture on the right with the rings.
