Yeah, it’s that stinkin live mycelium that grows on some plates but not the ones I had in the PC for 90 minutes! That has to be it.

Did you get around to performing the test again?

No we’ve been struggling at my place with my fiancé’s boob post surgery. But I’m just about ruffled enough to do it tonight and get my answers.

It’s okay we all say things we don’t mean from time to time. As long as you updoot my posts I’ll always come back 🥺

Two maketi plates…or maybe one nat and one maketi idk I’ve stopped caring. Both transferred same time.

Can someone tell me why water is forming central to the mycelium growth? (Center Plate)
I know it's not general condensation from over hydrated agar because it's only appeared on two plates and it would appear on every plate if it was just overhydrated.
All plates are stored the same with the same temps/conditions.
I thought these water beads only normally form when a tub is colonized and about to start fruiting

That plate do be lookin quite sus. Could be metabolites from something that isn’t cubensis.

Living organisms produce heat while catabolizing substrate. Heat will produce condensation. This is why excessive condensation indicates bacterial infection, it's called microbial thermogenesis.

So I should assume any plate with condensation is has a bacterial contaminant hitchhiking in the mycelium?
Would performing another transfer from the plate, and if the issue isn’t replicated on the next transfer, be a good measure to rule out bacterial contamination and assume it’s something else?
I’ve read that metabolic activity from the mycelium can produce these droplets as well. my agar is high-er nutrient than my previous plates so I was leaning toward that but you’re the pro and I’m the noob lol

I don't think so, because condensation can also occur because the temperature of the plate dropped below the dew point of the air inside it.

Use discretion. Mycelium produces heat some small amount of heat as well. If your plate is infected there will be more to observe than just a bit of condensation.

No, not at all.

In my experience 99% of the time it's what Arctic_Fox said. If I leave my window open overnight all my plates get condensated to shit. It clears up over time

F5 to F6 tall x7x Flush 1 prints, 1 week on agar. I've been using flame sterilized scalpel (after cooling in agar) to slice a tiny bit of spore print through agar. I like the results. Grows like a caterpillar, gives more options of where to cut from.

Will be transferring in a few days from plates 2, 3, and 4.

I've decided when I do a spore giveaway from this line at some point down the line, I'm going to send out spore prints, or sections of spore prints, instead of swabs. Prints taken with cookie trays seem cleaner to me, and I like working with even a fraction of a spore print much more than using a swab.

Here's how I took the very clean prints:

--How to grow POPPIES.
--GROWING SHROOMS, FROM SPORES TO TRIPS
--x7x+ variety history.

Thanks a bunch for the previous replies...

Been having some trouble with my "alacabenzi" plates.
I put some wedges on rye, am I correct in assuming these are garbage?
There's clearly some healthy mycelium in there trying its best, but spawning would be a no-go... yeah?

Then we have these Treasure coasts..
I'm leaning towards these being okay, but wanted a second opinion.
Ropy rhizmorphic is easy to ID, but I'm still having trouble recognizing healthy mycelium on agar.
Some of these appear to be gray in the photos, but it's all white.

Those jars appear to be bacterial and that last plate is riddled with bacteria.

Whoops, that last plate wasn't even supposed to be in the post, lol. I tossed that plate yesterday.

The other ones look good though? Thanks!
